There is a guy that works at my place, has been doing the job 40 years knows it all won’t be told anything, done more miles in reverse etc etc. Even wanted a hi vis printed with ‘I’ve only been doing this for 40 years’.
Well a couple of months ago he hit a bridge in Manchester. Somehow he kept his job but it’s fair to say that he has lost the gob.
Must be them sausage factory training schools from 40 years ago.
TruckDriverBen:
i dont own a satnav, and iv been doing this job for the past couple of years on agency however i do own a brain
i do follow googlemaps however i know my height, width when you come to a low bridge you have miles of warning and they even give you a alternative route only time googlemaps has shot me in the foot was in london kept pointing me back to a low bridge so i had to open maps up and basically manually see myself
How have you stopped in London to check your phone , google , it’s all red routes , or don’t red routes apply to people with brains ,
And what’s this manually seeing to yourself after looking at google maps , 2 nd thought I don’t want to know

I only know of 1 person who hit a bridge , he just said he thought it would go , he was suspended / had to do a retraining course ( he was 60 so must of been driving for some years ) but kept his job .
So it seem what we read on here that it’s instant dismissal & a chat with the tc isn’t true , or not in all cases , I do know a lad on car transporters who does say with his lot it is instant dismissal

Was he a chancer who thought maybe he could get under with a dropped suspension in crawler, and a bit of care,.and scratched the top of his trailer…or did he completely pulverise it converting it into a (bent) flat.
Option 1 …Something I’ve certainly done once or twice in past.
Option 2… Deffo as you say sausage factory graduate with 40 years experience.
