To be honest ,I think the change is a step backwards, changing a page is like being on dialup, its so slow and also that has been said many times before ,the loss of certain threads ,ie Bubblemans cuttings, one of the best threads running on here.
curnock:
i have been searchin for several threads that i started and its telling me there are no matches, those are the threads that i am talkin about
If you tell us the thread titles I’m sure someone will find them for you
Rikki would it be possible to have the advertising column horizontal either at the top or better still at the bottom of the page instead of all the way down the right hand side ?
I have got to admit that when I first saw The New Site my first reaction was to send a big W.T.F.
However, within the last two days I can see that " THE TEAM " are working more than their little socks off so that we can ALL have a much better and improved Trucknet site.
It’s a great shame to see that there are a few members who are very dissapointed at the moment especially Marc and Willie Roadstar but try and hang on a bit lads as I am sure that anything that can be done will be done to try and get all the threads and pictures back.
One thing that I would like to mention especially for the Senior Members like myself who haven’t a clue how these magic boxes ( computers ) work. For two hours yesterday my eyes were hurting after reading the small print until I discovered that if you click on the small letter “A” near the top right hand corner of the screen just above where it says Logout, you can make the print size ( font ) bigger. Probably, nearly everybody else knew this but if it only helps one or two members it was worth sharing.
On a positive note, I hope that Dennis F, Brian, Rikky and the rest of " THE TEAM " get the pat on the backs that they rightly deserve in the next couple of weeks for all their hard work in trying to improve the site.
STRAIGHT EIGHT:
You’re dead right there Bubbleman!! This is all i use my go on the computer for!! I thought ‘Brilliant!’ The perfect site for the all round lorry and transport fanatic, easy to use ect, now its bolloxed up!! I realise that it must have been hard work to do it all, but why cant it be put back how it was?? Surely the with the new ‘back end’ software ( what ever that is) it would be alright?? Never had one bit of bother with it the way it was, now its even a problem to log on! Think i’ll leave it a few weeks, come back and see if its any better, if not, nice to have chatted and shared memories with you, bye bye
gotta agree with straight eight, this new layout is bloody rubbish, especially on photo forum, as said before, those adverts on the right hand side of page cuts the ends off photos, the old layout was perfect, this is diabolical, its too ‘busy’, i really arent enjoying coming on here anymore. which is a shame, cos here and facebook are about the only 2 sites i go on when im on ‘tinterweb’.
Is it the size of the photos that are the problem rather than the size of the board
I notice that photos over 640 wide are the problem so is the answer for members not to post photos above this size - most photo sites have a resize option.
Ive ‘borrowed’ a 640 X 480 photo from jacko22 to demonstrate -
A perfect fit on my 15" screen
I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but this new format is very similar( almost identicle ) to the American version www. Trucknet.Com. I was always pleased that TruckNet UK was so much better.
I guess like everyone else i will have to persevere with it, but i do feel sorry for people like Bubbleman and others who have put up loads of photos. It would have been nice to have had a bit of notice of the changes too. Dont like to moan but just a bit dissapointed.
I am not happy why change something that appeared to work well, and the time wasted waiting on page’s loading is unreal
Used to look forward to loging on at night but the appeal has gone.
Eddie.
On a positive note, I’ve been through this on other forums I ‘use’ and I have no doubt 99% of the forum regulars will soon forget what the old one looked like within a few months.
I have found one BIG improvement in the new lay out, in the past I might read one thread in a forum and when I ‘backspaced’ to return to either the forum or boad index all the unread posts were shown as read therefore disabling the ‘go to first unread post’ feature, this new set up is saving me time.
I’m also absolutely certain in 3 or 4 years time when it gets changed again many will be saying “go back to the old one” (meaning the current version) just as lots are saying now!! IMHO
Ross.

it was talked about on the main forums and even had a discussion running for ages in the feedback forum asking what features do members want, but maybe we should have posted something in here as there are names in here that I don’t see posting on the other forums. If it is the case that many of you stick to this forum and it was a surprise to you when the upgrade happened then I can only apologise and promise that if it ever happens again I will make sure you know!
I to have had no end of troubles trying to log onto this “new” site – I have at last got back onto it with considerable help from the “moderators” but as I’ve just re-submitted a password I’m dubious of logging out in case I cannot log back in again !!
I haven’t posted photo’s so cannot in fairness comment about any being deleted or lost – what I have found though is that the whole site appears to have slowed down (or is it me ?)…
Still it is progress I suppose – and as a person who whinged when he went from log-book to tacho I suppose I’ll get used to it (just hope I can log back in again) !!
WHY?
I checked in last night & found this current shiny set up on TNUK, I don’t like it at all & it seems I’m not alone.
If they start messing around with facebook too then I’m buggered

I can assure you it wasnt done for fun, Like most people I avoid work like the plague We had to upgrade the forums as there was a well known security hole with the one we were using that we couldnt patch ( we had been using a version that was 2 years out of date but had managed to seal the security holes that had come up until now).
If we had not ugraded there was a Hack avavilable which any bored 16 year old witha small knowledge of hacking could have used against the forum and would have meant we lost forever every single post and image posted to TruckNet UK.
We didnt do this because we could, it was done becuase we had to

Fine but why use this software when there is so much better available, and why have an advertising column down the right hand side which is probably one of the worst imaginable places for it.

,
We spent a lot of time (and money) looking at moving to a non open source software platform, but we hit a brick wall in moving all the posts over. last time we moved we lost everything- all the old posts and membership we decided this time that the priority was to keep that data a
and why have an advertising column down the right hand side which is probably one of the worst imaginable places for it.
so where is a better place? adverts are intrusive if they werent intrusive and therefore noticable then advertisers wouldn’t advertise.
Free websites have to cover their costs - and that is done by allowing advertising, TruckNet Uk as long as I have a say will not charge you to use this website, we acivetvely tell you about ad blockers and the add on to the firefox browser to block the ads. but ads are a fact of life. people want to talk to you about their wares and as a publishing company RBI are here to make money they are not a charity.
RBI spend money on you guys, they have given us cash so we can all go to Cannock and have a good night, we will be at Peterborough Truckfest giving a free hospitality area - we have plans to extend the web for you, putting the truck tests on line, giving you your own personal free blog space and much more. Non of this is free, it all costs money
Very soon we will be changing the website front page, and Jounalists will be uploading to the site on a daily basis news and information relevant to you as a driver, the time and effort put into that has to be paid for, it is their job and they deserve to be paid for doing it, which means we have to continue to bring in the revenue so we can pay them. thereforethe ads are here, those ads ensure this website doesnt cost you a penny
OK I will stop ranting now, and sit back and wait for the flack
Personally I don’t have a problem with the adds just the positioning of the column, surely a horizontal bar would be less intrusive but still visible to everyone.
I agree that adds have to be intrusive to a point, but there’s a difference between intrusive and downright annoying which this column is imo.

Agreed - even if it meant a horizontal bar across the screen every so often as you scroll down - at least you could scroll passed them.

Just wondered how you manage to do that, put an image of the page into a post■■?
With the page being viewed hit Ctrl + Alt + PrtScn on the keyboard and the image of what’s on the screen will be copied to the clip board on your computer, you can then past it into your favourite image editing program and crop it then save it as a JPG image or whatever.
Alternatively you can use a screen capture program such as SnagIt to capture what’s on the screen.
Then post the image on the net to somewhere like Photobucket or the Gallery here and then link to it in the post.
you can also use the sniping tool in vista you can take any part it up to you
