Mike68, Beattun.
Both of you are spot on.
(1) Your licence, dont lose it for something silly
(2) Worse still is pranging your motor because you couldnt see.

i can assure you mate i can do the job…no need to prove yourself to me or anyone else, how about you just show a bit of initiative and clean the windows and mirrors as required, I can clean my windscreen in under 2 minutes at a service station, whats the big deal?
i was going to give my lights/mirrors/windscreen a quick swill this morning as i always do before i leave but that was scuppered by the t.o bod chucking my paper work at me and shouting GO,GO,GO your already late
i thought about stopping on route at a garage for a paper/wash the windows,mirrors/winscreen but as i had a 8.30 a.m booking time,it was already 7.45 a.m with 3 hrs+ of motoring to do i thought best not to[can be assed explaining down phone why i stopped, anything for a quite life].
some of us dont know how lucky they are,ill just stop when i fancy,i wish
If as you stated you were already 2 1/4 + hrs late for the booking would another 5 or 10 minutes made a lot of difference ?

Some of us do know how lucky we are when we read threads like this.
Despite being agency I love my regular gig and don’t enjoy being shunted off it from time to time and sent to one of the “corporates” to spend the day being hassled by desk jockies.
I’m back in on wednesday to:
No ISOTRAK
No “planner”
No cabphone
No sitting in RDCs listening to bullshine
Orange O disc so no backhauls
Stop when I want if I need a piddle, legal rest, coffee, or want to wash my screen off.
All they ask is that you get to site on time especially if a crane is waiting, get there safely, bring the truck back in one piece fuelled up and as tidy as you found it.
The old FL220s I drive might be scruffy, dirty, and slow but I’ve never felt stressed once and if Steve Wright’s show is on the radio I’m working a late shift.

they dont see it like that, they would see it as a unessasary stop, they would see it as if id of drove straight there,i would of got there 5 /10 mins ealier, out 5/10 mins earlier, and maybe got a extra drop done, collection, truck back to yard 5/10 mins earlier so night shift bloke gets off earlier etc,etc
they want every minute out of you they can get, thats why i feel sympathy for styme,i dont get much hassle if any,but i dont put myself in a position to get any,i just drive it.
ady i see your point, but ultimately the driver has to take some responsibility and make the good old executive decision to do what needs to be done, for example washing the windows
You should be able to wash the windscreen at least once every day, it doesn’t need a power wash FFS, all you need is a bucket of water and a window cleaning device. If your boss really won’t let you even wash the screen he must be a tight git.
Not that it will have any effect on your situation but on my company we are allowed to go to a full truck wash 4 times a month if needed, each visit costs $72.00. You could point out that dirty fleets get less work and thats a fact. During the short period I worked in the office at Fed Ex one of my greatest moments was telling C ■■■■ of Northampton to either wash their vehicles of keep out of our depot, never saw them in there again.
