Nostalgia on Ebay!

Heres what I’ve been tracking recently, not a lot of it made the reserve sadly (remember ebay links dont last for ever after end of auction so these links will eventually expire).

I tell you what Ghinzani, theres a couple of corkers there. I especially liked the LV, at £500 a real bargain, also the Scammell, I used to drive the 8 legger version of that. Im glad they explained about the headlights for that foden, I know it didnt look right! God it makes me sick, I got no room to keep a pushbike!

Hey Ghinzani
you didnt notice a scanny 93m rigid curtainsider for sale a few weeks ago did you■■?

reason i ask is my gaffer just bought one of there and its now my motor
heres a pic to jog your memory

cheers

Its amazing how many are on ebay, the problem is they are’nt all under the commercial vehicle section, some are under the classic car section. Still it gives me something to do at work  I liked that one too but not sure what the reserve was, altho I only ever went in a 220 ■■■■■■■ a few times. I remember my old man having a problem with his regular B series and stopping into the Milk Board depot at Highbridge to swap tractors. They gave him an A series with a 220 and he complained like b*ggery to his transport manager about it, so they gave him a new C series from Frank Tuckers with a 290 ■■■■■■■ in, which was much more to his liking. Then again his B series had a 265 roller with a full pump that was wide open and went like the proverbial off of a shovel.

Do love those Reutemans too, did you ever see that one which was a tractor with a one-off high top sleeper like a KW aerodyne that some geezer had whipped up himself. I recall seeing it in a magazine in the early 80s, maybe Truck & Driver, maybe Trucking International. Ugly great brute it was!

I’ve got the same storage problems so sympathise, altho I do have 2 and a half parking spaces. My bikes live in a cupboard, where the shoes and coats should be. Lord knows where I’d keep me classic spares when I get one.!!

Yeah I saw that one too, bit new-fangled for me tho! Great little motors - how much did it go for? What you want on that is the stripes Scania presented them in when they were first brought out - yellow, orange and red IIRC. Would go very nicely on that blue background. Has it got a brown velour interior? Now that was classy! :stuck_out_tongue:

It finished at £1750 :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: and what a bargain it was to ive been using it for just over 2 weeks now and it drives absolutely spot on, the guy who sold had spent a small fortune on then the job he was offered turned sour on him so he had to get shut

The inside is grey cloth and is spotless apart from the drivers seat has sagged and is a bit torn (being replaced shortly)

you wouldnt happen to know the auction number for it would you■■?

simon

I just did a search over the past 30 days or whatever it is they keep em for and couldnt see it. You wouldnt happen to know your bosses id? We could look it up via that… altho if he is been buying any dodgy videos or pvc nightwear we will be able to see that too, so he not want to tell you!

Sounds like a right bargain - what did you have before, is it a step up?

I dont know his user ID or i could do a spot of blackmail if theres anything dodgy going on  :sunglasses:

Ive just started working for him so i used his iveco  for the first week then i got the scanny

He’s an owner driver but when he gets enough work he employs another driver and buys you your own motor upto now theres 4 of us and he’s a cracking bloke to work for real easy going knows the job so understands unlike most TM’s

Oh, dont get me wrong, when I was driving a B series, I would have gone nuts too to be given an old banger! even though I allways liked the A series/LV for looks over the B. I found the A actually “fitted” me better, but the b series was more modern and good equipment in comparison. So I know just where your old man was coming from! He would have moaned even more if would have been a 180 gardner I bet!

I have never seen the routeman you mention Ghiz, they were pretty rare at the best of times, and most of the usual ones I remember were Shell tankers, and 8 legger tippers, which the most common lump would be the 680 Power Plus, the other was RR of about 200/220. I drove both, and I liked the RR set up, as it came with a DB6 box, which was smoother than the leyland straight six.

I love the ■■■■■■■ 290, I had an E290 big cam in a Sedd Ack 400 series sleeper, it wentr like the wind, and I felt king of the road in that motor!

My faveourite bit is if you scroll down and look at the “ask seller a question” bit - someone has asked “how much it it?” - duh! Its an auction stoopid! Some people… I saw a couple of 92 artics for sale the other day for 2 grand - what engines did they have? 9 litres? 32 ton tractors I think they were, dont think they had enuff power for 38.

A thing of such beauty!

Hoho! clock that luxury interiour!

I reckon that ERF needs a candelabra on the dash, maybe Liberace has a spare one :stuck_out_tongue:

I would avoid that old D series I reckon Mal. That could give you heart problems worrying about the rust.

Probably for a restoration project I would go for the Routeman, but it still seems quite modern. It doesnt seem that long ago that Shell were still delivering fuel with them :open_mouth:

Yeah, the D series is beyond the pale I reckon Malc, though there might still be a lot of them cabs about. I’d go for that Scammell, or that LV ERF, both of them look sound, better yet though a Borderer, lately Ive been fancying one with a 240 Gardner fitted. Im determined that one day I’ll get an old un, just as soon as I can afford it…oh, and when Ive got a drive or a front garden to keep it on!

What about the old Volvo F7? A lot of those were plated at 38t and they only had a 6.7 litre engine :open_mouth:

I drove a new 92 on 38,000 tonne and it went like a train. I was pulling a powder tank so it was always loaded to max.

I fancy something like an FG or something different and cheap to take to shows, maybe a thames trader or an old commer.

Same problem though, lack of money, time and space

They went up to 310 bhp I think…

My father drove a B-series ERF with a Gardner 240 in it at 38 tons for a while - that was on powder tank work as well. By some strange quirk, I stumbled across the Metalair tri-axle tank it used to pull in Sharples yard on Saturday morning.
