Nostalgia on Ebay!

I drove an LB81 at 32 tons bulk tipper Malc, that went like a train as well, … stevensons rocket!

The LB81 was a great motor. My dad drove one in his last driving job back in the late 80’s early 90’s.

It was a two axle rigid with a turntable drawbar trailer and was used mainly for carrying tractors out of Case in Doncaster. (it could carry four whereas artics could only mange three)

It was a proper flying machine. He regularly used to do Doncaster to Southampton Docks and back in the day. (Which was good as it was only a day cab!)

I keep looking for photos of the Scania so if anybody has any pictures of AKW 784T, i’d be very grateful.

Well KV, mine was garbage on the hills, but then again you did have to rev the cobs of em and use the splits, and I was more used to the big ■■■■■■■■ so I didnt care for the style. But, they did have a damned good heater, mod cons, and were a good solid build.

The one my dad drove went more like the Flying Scotsman than Stevensons Rocket. Not bad to say it was bought from a scrapyard.

He regularly ran with a couple of Transconti’s down to Southampton and they struggled to keep up sometimes. Perhaps it had been ‘tweaked’ at some time in it’s life
