Northwest Training school's

Hi guys and girls, after an eye opening week on here, i would like now to find out if anybody has done HGV training in the northwest england?

I live near preston so the closer the better really.

Nightfreight has been mentioned and i am looking into ones like Lantrain and Red Rose and othe rlarger firms but are there any smaller ones around?

Also i have emailed a fresh produce place as they have vans to artics, so hopefully they will respond positively but if not…

Shall i stop rambling on now lol. Any and all help is appreciated very much.

Thanks!

I did my training with Town and Country based in Bickerstaffe, just off the Rainford by pass. Small company, I couldn’t fault them.

Have you dealt with this company? I rang them up some months ago and got some snotty guy on the other end of the phone who didnt seem at all interested in answering my questions, just wondering if any one else has had any luck with them?

hi mate, i used truck training last year for my class 2, the boss is an ex examiner, cant for the life of me remember his name but he was a sound guy, his best instructor left while i was there though, just before my test as well!! His trucks are volvos for class 2 and scania for class 1, the pictures on his website are old so ignore them. I’m going for my class 1 training soon but don’t think i will use trucktraining just because there are others nearer to me and the best instructor left. Let me know who you have finally gone with, cheers

Well at the minute, everything lies on what the specialist says to me this afternoon and how honest i am with him about the pain in the knee. If he clears me then i will do as another chap suggested in another thread and get the Rigid done with sterling and then go someplace else for the Artic. Probably have to work inbetween unless i can find a “nice” firm who will give me a Rigid job and pay for the artic aswell :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue:

Or try and get away from sterling / qualitas on medical grounds ? ( Credit Card Insuarance )

Then book elsewhere

If you go with sterlings / qualitas and you are just on the basic rigid package the retest fees are horrendous.

I have known people pay £400+ for a retest with sterling / qualitas and that is just 3 hours and retest …

Sheesh, yes “26.a.l.d”, I am thinking of the medical grounds aswell…when i found out about surgery, i wrote thema letter to explain and see if i could get a time extension, they came me an extra 3 months to do the rigid but the rest runs out in october…

If the Specialist says i canny do work yet…and i get him to put it in writing…will that qualify me to get money back on medical grounds even though the rigid doesnt run out till january?

Not sure best to read your terms and conditions and contact your credit card company if u paid with that you may be covered by insurance.

They are that bad that i know of a few that were taught on a 12 tonner ( failed ) When they returned for their re-test they were put on a 16 tonner with a differant gearbox with 2 hours training before their Re-test in which they had to get used to the differant gearbox and the reversing manouvre

Well…The specialist has given me the all clear, albeit with a nod of the head. I rang up Sterling as soon as i got home and asked if there was a chance i would get any sort of refund if i cancelled the course, the chap said no, i then asked if i could change the course from a “summer king of the road” to normal Artic, he said, "dont see any problem with doing that but you’ll have to ring up tomorrow to speak to the manager. So i will ring tomorrow and let you all know what they say. Booked medical for week friday aswell so we are now hot on the lorry road. AT LONG LAST!!!

If you click the link in my signature it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot of CE (artic) info which may be of use to you

Do your CE training on an artic if that is what you will be driving when passed :exclamation:

I have more sense than to own my own truck

 Hi thebutty, WELCOME :grimacing:

Rang up Sterling again today, got to speak to mrs manager woman. Where do i start :s

A) No refund would be given if i cancelled the whole course.
B) Changing the course from “summer king of the road” to a “Rigid course” would only occur a refund of about 80 quid due to the rigid course costing about £900+
C) CPC material will be sent free of charge, CPC exam will cost £70.
D) Rigid and CPC have to be done within the year which ends in October for me, with this Sterling will be able to get the free funding for the Artic and then i can do that just outside the year if nesseccary.
E) The ADR course is in Essex so basically i lose out on that, though they will sort and book accomodation for me if i want to go down there and do it!
F) ADR can be done whenever i want, before after or at the same time as the Rigid or CPC or Artic.
G) Theory test is paid for(i didnt realise that)

So to round it all up, i probably forgot to ask something or other, but the woman was quite friendly and helpful. As i wont get much money back, i might aswell take them for everything they offer! Anyone reckon i can do it by October?? :stuck_out_tongue:

Blimey stormnation, To state the obvious, I think you’ve been shafted mate, TBH. :frowning:

National CPC is quite an undertaking, but I do believe it’s possible with more than a little application on your part.
I’m not sure about this: “Sterling will be able to get the free funding for the Artic.” If indeed it’s “free,” then I know of no law, or funding condition, that says that one is conditional upon the other, but this might depend on what paperwork you’ve already signed.

I’d agree that it looks like you’re already stuck with it, so you might as well get stuck in to it now.
As a starting point, please click THIS LINK.
Please read VERY carefully, then click the link to “NATIONAL CPC stuff ,” and read all the links that you can.
The info on there doesn’t get to be much more “horse’s mouth,” because I’ve linked it to the website of OCR, the CPC exam board.

Don’t suffer in silence mate, you’re not the first, and probably not the last to be in your position, we’re here to help if we can.
Post up any questions, or PM me if you prefer.:grimacing:

Blimey stormnation, To state the obvious, I think you’ve been shafted mate, TBH.

Its always easy to know that someone has been shafted because we see it all the time on here.
Money back fro the likes of Sterling?? - Whoosh there goes that flying pig again!!

The problem we all have on here is getting the message across to the wannabees BEFORE they sign up to the wrong people.
How on earth can we do that?

Sterling/Qualitas do not get any third party funding for the free artic course, it’s funded by them, from the poor ■■■■■■■■ that didn’t/couldn’t do the CPC but paid £1300 or whatever it is now. BTW the study material for the CPC they provide is a little book about as thick as the highway code.

The CPC is available at some local colleges, and free if your on a qualifying benefit.

Stormnation, you may still have seven days to cancel under the distance selling regs, I don’t know the ins and outs but it may be worth trying consumer direct and speaking to them.
