cats eyes where invented in halifax, that’s up north buddy

you’re welcome

It was Percy Shaw from Halifax who invented cat’s eyes, he was on his way home one night when he noticed a cat looking his way and this gave him the idea.
Apparently, if the cat had been facing the other way he would have invented a
pencil sharpener.

Must admit that this post makes a welcome change from some of the usual drivel on here. But I am left wondering why this wasn’t blocked/removed. If I made a topic about out travelling community I would get my knuckles rapped. Slag off the east Europeans or blacks? Well that’s racism. Diss the gay community and all hell would break loose.

Yet ex haulier and winseer can spout their pish about northerners without reprimand.

Another thing crossed my mind while reading this was that of the company was Stobarts instead of RB then how many posts would there be slapping ex haulier on the back?

It cuz northerners are ■■■■■■■■■ mate and couldn’t give a toss what southern shandy drinkers say about them.

I’m not the one calling northerners scabs - I don’t like personal attacks any more than anyone else, so go back and read it again. I was asking for some follow-up on where you can buy a decent 3 bedroomed semi for less than £130k up north?
Someone can tell me more about the “Golden Triangle” as well, or which lenders might do mortgages on double the ratio they’d be granted at down here?

Are you seriously telling me you can get a 3 bed semi down south for £130K■■?
I paid more than that for a 2 bed mid terrace (In Cornwall, but the poorer part…camborne) 8 years ago

didn’t say you did. But i’ve seen enough of your posts to get a general idea of your feelings. Constant bleating about your agency work and your mega wages, and northerners being backward cloth cap wearing idiots who work for pennies. By the way I live in Scotland in a 3 bedroom semi. Market value in the region of £125,000.

you may have to sift through a few detached and 4 bedroomed properties

Winseer:
If I stand to be corrected, would someone please post a link to an estate agent who’s selling a 3 bedroomed semi that isn’t falling down that’ll give me change out of what I can sell mine for down here…
I couldn’t afford to move to Warrington, and I resent the argument that “house are cheaper oop north” when they’re plainly more expensive unless “up north” is defined as remote places like Cape Wrath, Saddleworth Moor, Kyle of Locharsch, or whatever.

Here are 40 mixed terrace/semi in my area under £150k. Small market town with amazing countryside in every direction within 2 minutes drive. Less than 700 crimes in total per annum for the Home Office 10 categories for the entire town and outlying villages. So quiet that there’s only 4 police covering the town and villages out of office hours and no need for a police van in the town centre on a Friday and Saturday night. Also Driffield Truck Show at the showground on the edge of town…

£115,000

The point I’m trying to make here is that you can get cheap houses in areas where there’s little or no work.
No one seems to have answered about Golden Triangle, and other “rich with work” areas, and their house prices nearby.

Happysack - I’ve never said my wages are “mega” and I don’t personally attack anyone for driving wages down when it’s a general culture thing I make accusation of. Even you. I don’t even tout my agency, because I don’t want some race-to-the-bottomer coming in and undercutting me.

My arguments are about me not understanding how anyone can get by on lower wages IF like-for-like house prices seem similar up north to around my way in Kent. I’ve spent some time up there, and everything seemed rather overpriced to me, compared to how little money people seem to have to spend, thanks to low wages. Sure, I’ve seen the newspaper articles on areas like L8 with their £1 houses, but that’s because of multiple factors including high crime rates, drug dens, and of course no work for miles around. On the other hand, going by crime reputations and “unsafe neighbourhoods”, I’m puzzled as why you can’t get a house in the rundown Glasgow districts for a quid, or the back end of Edinburgh come to that.?

Are you saying the back end of Hull comes under “Golden Triangle”? :open_mouth:
My brother lives up there, and there’s bugger all work for miles around.

I thought “Golden Triangle” involved places like Crick upto Trafford park and some other place that’s not Humberside at all?

They were seperate questions, I answered the first.

What are funny northern clothes?..what are northern clothes??

Funny northern clothes are a flat cap,t-shirt and jeans and a whippet by your side,oh and a sweat stained oil covered rag cause northerners actually know what a days work involves.

Funny southern clothes are a shell suit and a pink rushed shirt, with bleached blond hair and fake tan as well, oh and don`t forget the poodle with colour matched coat.

Ex Haulier:
Looks to me as though the new poles are now our northern brethren. We recently lost a regular job to that northern company that most people will be able to figure out from the initials RB. We couldn’t figure how they could do it for the money as its just a shuttle from London to Reading. It turns out what they do is run a couple of blokes down on a Sunday, they will then do the job until Thursday when they get a load back and a couple more northern scabs take over. Seems to be you can get a northern monkey to work for about £7.50 an hour compared to the local going rate of 10 or 11 pound per hour. So when you are moaning about losing a job to east European competition just remember the scumbags don’t always have a polish accent. I can remember when northeners were quite a pround people. Seems these days there just the “skint” scabs.

+1,as a southerner(bristolian and proud) and now having to live amongst them :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: they are a strange lot,no class, and as for there fixation about pigeons
