We couldn’t figure how they could do it for the money as its just a shuttle from London to Reading. It turns out what they do is run a couple of blokes down on a Sunday, they will then do the job until Thursday when they get a load back and a couple more northern scabs take over. Seems to be you can get a northern monkey to work for about £7.50 an hour compared to the local going rate of 10 or 11 pound per hour. So when you are moaning about losing a job to east European competition just remember the scumbags don’t always have a polish accent. I can remember when northeners were quite a pround people. Seems these days there just the “skint” scabs.
I think you should retract that s word your not on strike and British people still need to work if you want £10 per hour maybe you priced your self out of work here in South Wales they get payed less

Your tone is somewhat offensive, and you seem incapable of understanding the market economy The Northern Brethren may not get the same hourly rate as you, but we don’t live in overpriced houses either- long story short the overheads are less so they can do the job cheaper, - that’s capalitism for you, the system this country works under. No-one owes you the right to do the work just because your local, either compete on price or service levels , in business nothing else counts- you lost the job because your uncompetitive , having a go because people can have a better standard of living on a less hourly rate is just niave bordering on stupidity

Having lived in Coventry, Colchester, Reading, Slough, Leyton E10, Eastbourne and Carlisle I feel reasonably experienced to comment on local economies.
All I see here ‘up north’ is the results of the triple-dip recession due to the insistence of successive governments on the “service economy” and the refusal to subsidise industries that actually make things we can sell to kick start this country again. Drivers are working all the hours God sends to feed their families and yes, the lack of work and lower living costs results in a lower wage. I know a family locally where the bloke drives buses and the wife has had to accept a job in Surrey just to keep food on the table, and she sees the kids every few weeks.
Even if there is an element of truth in the OP’s ill conceived rant, the anger should not be directed at the drivers in my opinion as it’s hardly their fault. If the government got behind farming, heavy industry, and the nuclear industry (where we are in danger of losing our specialist knowledge since the lib dems got in the coalition) there would be more work to create a bit more market demand for drivers.
Gosh, did that sound cross? No offence intended to anyone, even those South of Watford Gap!

Before you all start yeah I’m 24 I learnt how to rope and sheet at 15. Did it for 2 years before enlisting come out. Straight back on it. I’m not a pro but I learnt me dads way 25 ongoing years on the road he must be doing something right!!?

Northern firms have been operating in the south for many many years. Builders and road gangs being two that spring to mind. By the south, I mean greater London and its environs. The reason is simple, there just aren’t that many working class people in London because they can’t afford to live there. Most builders have to live in the Home Counties and commute in daily, northern people stay in digs.
Out of all my mates, I’m the only one who still lives in Central London, the rest have moved to the suburbs. There are many reasons they’ve done so though, money is just one.
Working class people have been replaced by yuppies and those who choose living on benefits as a lifestyle.
