Hi trevor your Dad,s A E C jogs the memory ,I can remember fitting a new clutch in it in the early 80,s with Trevor Green at S E Jones garage in the old tramshed in J ohnstown and remember what a lovely truck to drive and how clean it was underneath it was a credit to him .
vorny:
re: S E Jones this Borderer at this time would have been driven by Charlie Owen from Gobowen it had a Gardner 8lxb 240 ,fuller box and eaton back axle . Jones may have ran middle east but they definitely ran to Turkey where a Borderer similar to this one was burnt out ,the remains were put in the trailer and brought home where engine ,box and other parts were salvaged ,the box van it was pulling still had the scorch marks on the front in the 80.s . The box van pictured had a belly fuel tank up inside the chassis rails, other trailers { tilts} had them fitted either side of the chassis. Jones ran Atkinsons Guys Fodens and Sed Atkis all with Gardner engines also two M A N 232,s European destinations were mainly Germany ,France ,Switzerland and Italy . They also had two of the last Guy big J,s off the production line KMA 338 and 339T run 24hrs out of ICI Northwich.
Hi boys
vorny We met up with the driver of that Atki that got burnt out. He was in Bulgi and I think had burnt his leg in the fire. He was short of bandages and had turned the only one he had over to use the cleen? side.We gave him some more and off he went. I think he said his gas bottle had gone up in the night
I have asked on here before for info on a driver that worked for S E Jones his name was Barry Scrassy. He was living for a time at the Four Crosses at Coedpoeth. We hadnt seen him for years them came accross him in the Mo camp in Turkey with a table full of bottles (empty) in front of him
that was 1976 havenāt seen him since.
Regards Keith
Hi B.Waddy
Hereās an old photo of a Wrexham company and a very young Henry Bradford!..Think C.T. Clarke were on the top of Kings Mills hill Hightown?..
This picture was taken along side Pandy Farmā¦opposite Lloyd Morris Elec just over the railway bridgeā¦
Donāt think that wiper would have been much use last couple of days!..
Note the missing NS mirror?..I found the said mirror in a box of stuff i was sorting a few weeks ago!

Hi Barry Wadā¦
Henry passed away Christmas 2010ā¦
Think the AEC went to Clifford Jonesā¦but unable to trace any paperworkā¦still looking.
Think the driver you are thinking of was Graham Miles?..
Hi Vornyā¦
I remember the AEC having that Clutch fitted in S.E Jonesāsā¦in the old tram garage in Johnstownā¦Think pulling up the hill out of Magnesium Electron in Swinton daily took itās toll on itā¦must have been around a 1 in 4 !..Dad always tried to keep um cleanā¦
Do you remember when Henry stopped on the Thelwell to helpā¦think it was one of SE Jonesās drivers who had broken down⦠and a car hit the AEC up the rearā¦spare wheel took the brunt of it but the car came off worse!
Gresford Garageā¦
Remember dropping a poorly Commer TS3 off for themā¦(The one pictured with the Boat on the back of it)⦠broken fuel line, raw diesel down the intake, big revs, bigbang!..Just pulled out of Malpas cattle market with a load on going towards Nomans Heath on the A41ā¦

Would see D H Jones on occasions in the west Mids at Stewpony and kinetic sand Belbroughton(feeder road) quarries . They had an early DAF 2600 unit . regards keith
Hi B Waddy Graham Miles son worked with me at S E Jones garage and left to take over when his dad passed away . Dave was working for Platts in LLay last I heard .
Hi tastrucker ; SE JONES had a number of Fodens ,two tractors one was reg TUN 95J ,and also a rigid 8 wheeler tank I think a 1964 B reg which worked at Bersham colliery alongside an Atkinson and a scammell routemaster both rigid 8 wheeler tanks I think they were used for moving slurry from the pit to the coal bank.
Hi Dessert driver ,Barry Scrace worked at SE Jones till about 1979 with Mike Stocker ,don,t know where he went to but Mike left to work for I think Falcongate in Birkenhead .I remember Scracey giving me the mother of bollockings one day during a heavy snow fall he called in Johnstown garage solo , thinking that he would,nt get up to Coedpoeth I fitted snow chains on his drive axle only for them to come off about a mile up the road causing a bit of damage to his rear lights .I still shudder about it 30 odd years later
To BRAD 4,sorry that Henry has passed on he was always good to me as he often called into Johnstown garage .As a young lad straight from school I was often the ā ā ā ā of pranks being the youngest there . Henry once said to me after one such time :Never mind lad in time the boot will be on the other foot one day keep smiling; Looking at that old photo of his he never altered .
