I’m going to watch a show at The Adelphi on Saturday 21st, estimated finish time 2155.
Tower Bridge is opening at 2200 for 1/2 hr approx to let a boaty through.
I want to get from The Adelphi to maybe London Bridge or similar sort of vantage point as quick as possible - there’s going to be quite a few people leaving the show, so I assume the clippers will be packed and the roads will be slow.
I don’t mind walking, I’m not a slow walker either, but it’s around 2 miles? which means the bridge will probably be closed by time I’ve exited the theatre and got down there, so I’m open to ideas - any Boris Bikes nearby for example or any quicker way?
Turn left out of the theatre, cross the road and head East along the Strand. You will see the Savoy on your right take a right down Savoy Hill to the river then turn left, following the river. Look out for Temple underground station then catch a tube from there to Tower Hill,5 stops I think. Should be plenty of time. Mine’s a heavy! Shandy indeed…

Don’t you need to be registered or have an Oyster card to get a Boris bike?
No, you can use your credit card as far as I know, I’ve used 1 before when I’ve been down there, and I just put my credit card in the machine, put in my details and for the next 24hrs when I put my credit card in, it just released the bike.
We’re supposed to Run them over, not ride on them !
+1
LEAVE IT!!
Mainly by cycling, and a little change in what I eat - not giving up beer though - has took me from over 18st, to 16.5st and now I’m down to around 14st.
I can’t find any pics of me at my biggest, but here’s a pic of me about 18mths ago at 16.5st and a pic of me a few weeks ago at my auntie’s wedding at 14st.
The black and white shirt in the 1st picture I tried on again about 2 weeks ago, and me and the missus both fit in it at the same time

I wouldn’t rely on that Circle Line been open on a weekend, I time I’ve been down that way it’s been closed
Nightmare when your a stranger trying to find another station or line that’s open.
I know what you mean mate.
We went down years ago to watch a show at the o2, so I booked us into a nice hotel on Canary Wharf, only 1 stop on ‘the tube’, day of the concert the line was shut, so we used the clipper, but coming back from the concert the clipper was hammered, tube was shut, so we got a tube replacement bus, but it was the wrong 1, ended up in the arse end of nowhere, but we were near a DLR station, so we jumped on that back to Canary Wharf - bloody long night
Problem with that is with the 1 way streets and it’s going to be busy with it being the Saturday before xmas and the shows finishing all at the same time in the area, I think it’d be quicker to walk than get a taxi

Is it only one boat going under tower bridge?? It only takes about five minutes to open and close the bridge.
Video on youtube and Ive seen it open for real.
Yeah, according to the website it’s that party boat going under, it says bridge open 2200, bridge close 2230, whether it really stays open that long I’ve no idea.
Been down there hundreds of times, even did a stint driving busses down there, and never seen it open.
I know there’s pics and vids on tinterweb, but that’s nothing like seeing it for yourself and taking your own pic is it…
There were pictures and videos of the Antinov 225 on tinterweb, but when I was asked if I’d be the driver for the crew when it was in Manchester, I jumped at the chance and went in the cockpit a few times, sure there’s pics, but somethings just have to be experienced.
You won’t make it in five minutes if the boat goes through at 2200 exactly whatever way you go. It’ll be ten minutes walk to Temple tube even if its running, and the Circle is a bugger for plodding along and stopping everywhere. By the time you get to the bridge it could be 2225.
Your best bet is to tab it over to Charing X, and take the train to London Bridge (check for times and line closures before you go), whip out of the station, past City Hall and HMS Belfast, jobs a good un.
Failing all that, black cab. You won’t be ale to get a looky looky cab in Central even if you wanted one.

Its still a brisk 5-10 minute walk from london bridge station to city hall.
Black cab will get you there sharp as the drivers know where there going not some ilegall imigrant driving a clapped out toyota. Mind you fare will probaly be a weeks wages for a flat cap wearing northerner.

True, there’s no easy way given the time constraints.
