no wonder we never get anywhere!

we wonder why we never get anywhere in this industry but it seems obvious why to me.

take a look at the thread i started about the price rise on the eurotunnel and you will see a classic case.all i set out to do was have a bit of a whinge about the amount of the price rise & the fact there was no warning and get virtually accused of being a “cowboy” because i’ve found a way of making a bit of profit.

forgive me if i’m wrong but i thought that was the whole point of going to work in the first place to make money.if i’m doing so without breaking the law what is the problem?

if we have this attitude between each other then how are we supposed to convince joe public or even politicians of our worth?

Your poll asked if we thought you as a cowboy i said yes i did which is my opinian

oddsodz:
no cus that is down to the governmant the incentive to use 6 axles with euro 3/4 engines.

i’m sorry oddsodz but whoever is giving you your information is wrong again.a r.p.c is issued to vehicles with a lean burn engine and as for as i’m aware is only available to vehicles that were fitted with a euro 2 engine as after this the government that you seem to love so much moved the goal posts it has nothing to do with how many axles you run with.

so was jesus but most of us follow him now !!

really?

Any businessman who did not take use of a legal opportunity to reduce his costs is a fool…

The buying of diesel abroad in these times may not be strictly cricket  but to not do so when the opportunity arises is the act of a romanticist not the owner of a truck trying to create a future for his business.

The arguement should never be against those shrewd businessmen but against the government and its policies that places them in the situation that forces them to travel abroad to remain competitive.

I voted canny, if I could find cheaper petrol for my car by crossing the severn bridge into England and save a few quid then off I would go.

Yes agreed but as you say not cricket, perhaps football with moble goal posts ■■

At the end of the day, business is business, and we are all out to make money, thast what pays for our food, our homes, our bills, etc… so if we can get thing cheaper, be it, here, france, belgium… then what does it matter…

The UK government take the mickey out of us, and while we let them they’ll continue to do it, so I voted canny, IF this pile of garbage we call a government (all parties) ever gets round to putting us and out interests first, we might well be able to live by better sentiments. But seeing as they are judas scum that do nowt but rob the working and business man of this land and toady to just about everyone else e.g. yanks and the e.u., its dog eat dog, hopefully one day they’ll be the dogs that’ll get eat. My contempt for them defies description.

Mal.

Hiya Mal, so I take it you voted Canny too then??..LOL

A thought has crossed my mind as to who would do a job for say 1pound per mile or 80p per mile? to make more profit you would take the 1 pound per mile but if your cost came to 99p the profit would not be as much as 80p.That makes the difference as to wether you undercut to get the jobs cus your cost are less??.Thus you are doing things on the cheap at the cost of others !!!

 I did Andy! and took the opportunity to release a bit of bile while I was at it!

Mal.

I cant rememebr NSH saying anything about undercutting anyone. All he said was that he gets his fuel abroad, coz its cheaper… that might mean the difference of being able to pay his mortgage one month.

I agree with you in the fact that if someone got cheap fuel abroad to reduce their costs and hence undercutting other ruthlessly then that would be a bit below the belt, but what is business all about??.. getting a job done that someone wants done, at the cheapest possible cost…

And that is what this all boils down to… money… and as I said before, money is what everyone lives on… Money makes the world go round, and no-one said business was easy…

Thats a good poitn Odds, if it was as a method of cutting rates, and I dont think for a minute thats what is going down here by the way, it would be complete toilet and danglers. Rates need to go up, not down.

yes mal but cost are going up faster than rates so if we where all on the same footing we would all be in the same boat so we could all stick to gether to sort things out,not be in a situation as to where we could undercut to keep our heads above the smelly stuff

Sticking together and sorting things out in the haulage game, I hope I can live to see it! really I do!

Mal.

If that happened mal we wouldnt be able to give the french so much stick for sticking together and going on strike, now that would not be british would it !!

i dont know where you figured under cutting into this?
maybe it was just scratching for somthing to justify your position but if you read back through my previous post you will see that i work as a sub-contractor so i dont set the rates therefore i cannot undercut anybody!

as for your example of rates if you did the job for pound and made a penny it would still be a profit but if you did it .80p then it would be a .19p loss so how you figure that to the profit at £1 would not be as good as at .80p i dont know?
