No takers for this particular job

Well this one has been advertised for six days now and nobody has applied for it yet.

Is it just me, but does the haulier seem to appear somewhat controlling? Don’t think I’d want to work for them.

It could be just you.

I see nothing in that advert that’s unreasonable or overly controlling.
The way I read it is that the company want a driver who is smart, able to work within legal and company rules, and capable of doing the job and following their procedures? Pretty much what most companies look for. They obviously don’t want to employ a ■■■■■
It doesn’t sound difficult, but from what I’ve seen and read, I’m sure there are plenty of drivers who’d struggle with such simple company requirements.

I don’t see any real problems with it personally. That’s what most employers look for and require from applicants.

But is it a haulier, sounds more like a manufacturer or similar to me delivering their own products? I suppose that really they are putting in writing what most employers expect from staff, but don’t always get! I know that some companies have drivers using scanners when loading and unloading their vehicles, motor industry deliveries etc, and it wouldn’t appeal to me but plenty of drivers do it.

Pete.

How do you know nobody has applied for it?

Reef:

It says on the site under the pay that it has 0 applications through their site.

It seems like they love paperwork and im guessing being on the phone all day to them with updates.

I don’t do retail deliveries myself, as more into industrial deliveries and construction based driving roles, but like most professional drivers I look after the vehicles and am polite with customers and ensure paperwork is all in order. This particular advert seems to be very one sided though. Nothing in there about what they do for the driver? No mention of how that £24k is broken down, how many nights out they expect etc.

It may just be me, but the fact that the job has been advertised for six days now with absolutely no applicants, zero, zilch, nada, makes me think others don’t find the advertised post (or the company) appealing either. :unamused:

You are an HGV driver, hand balling fudniture. You are also a warehouse lacky, loading wagons when not driving. You will also be spending time in the transport office, when not driving. You can also be told to sweep the yard if not busy with everything else.

For £24000■■ Even my basic (including drinking tea, watching tv, picking my nose, etc when not driviing) is two grand more than that.

I’ll say no more.

The job is fine, but the money is crap.
They want pro drivers who can find their way about Britain and Ireland without prat nav, experienced people who are customer focused and prepared to do the job right.

No applications because drivers of that standard are like rocking horse ■■■ and already in good jobs earning their true value, they’ll need to add around £6k to that figure for a basic week and then some.

To put things in perspective i know of a chap in his thirties who’s recently been taken on as a transporter driver @ £42k plus nights out, different work agreed, but gives an idea of how real the shortage of the right kind of driver is.

+1

Does sound like a manufacturer delivering their own goods, sounds quite a good job tbh…until you get to the salary part :grimacing:

Nothing more than a list of demands from the company. Apart from the salary (which isn’t particularly competitive) there is nothing on offer to entice a driver! Anyone with three years experience would probably already have a better job. Not surprised in the least that no one has applied.

To put it in a nutshell.
They want a first class driver for a second class pay rate.

That’s how I read it.In addition to we know that C+E drivers are so desperate for a job that they’ll be happy to waste their licence doing zb shop deliveries with a 4 wheeler rigid when not employed doing any of the above. :smiling_imp:

Sounds OK nothing out the ordinary, BUT would need to check out the £24k bit, is that gross inc o/t or basic before o/t if its basic 40 hrs it = £11.53p/h

Perhaps for some C+E drivers it might be what they want to get away from long hours on the road. Could be a nice steady job with a bit of variety of working in the warehouse or transport office instead of hours on the road. Only the possibility of a night out, less hours than on general haulage more time at home.

From what I’ve read doesn’t seem they’re asking for anything unreasonable except for the pay, I wonder if that is a salary for basic hours Monday to Friday, I know of other own account jobs that seem to have a very low wage until you see what you get for working overtime, weekends, early starts, late finishes.

Tgtrucker:
They obviously don’t want to employ a [zb].

Are you sure about that? I cant see the salary on offer attracting much else!

Let’s just say that I’d bet the job wouldn’t even have been advertised ‘if’ it was along the lines of long distance international trunking with demount drawbars.Even at the same money.

The fact is most drivers don’t get into the job to avoid ‘long hours on the road’ by working inside at worse or doing shop deliveries at best.Which probably explains why the advert hasn’t long been taken down.Having filled the job with any east euro drivers preferring to ditch their typical lower paying home based long haul type jobs for typical uk domestic distribution sector type work. :bulb:

My guess - They have a very low turnover of drivers in a small fleet. People who have been there years will grumble about the pay (which isn’t that bad for Staffordshire) but not want to move. Now they need a new driver and can’t offer the proper rate without paying it to all the others. They will just use agencies for a while until they either contract the whole job out or get up to date. My money is on contracting out.

Sounds alright really just a bit of a low wage but there may be opportunities to increase your earnings, it doesn’t say, so you’d have to ask if you applied.
The only issue I can see is that they can’t spell despatch.
I would be concerened if my future employers couldn’t master basic English…
