No sleep

Roop298:
Hi, all. This is my first post. And I’m not a truck driver yet. I’m only on this forum because I want to get a heads up head start to what it’s like as a professional goods driver. I have the utmost respect for professional haulage because without it this country would be in a real mess.

So I’m reading posts and I’m staggered to read a post that directly affects me and people I know. Without intending to offend, impugn or point digits anywhere can I say the following:

20 years ago Mount Pleasant Road was a leafy greenfield area. Not dissimilar to the Amazon Jungle. Then the loggers came and everything changed. Some left the area with a cash incentive, some stayed. While ultimately, resistance is futile and assimilation will be assured until any of the locals die (I can assure they aren’t going to leave) you are always going to get pockets of resistance to you own personal needs (and by that I mean somewhere to park, eat and easy access back onto the M18).

The issues of HGV’s on that road are thus:

reduction of road width due to parked vehicles
proximity of running fridge unit’s to residential dwellings
unauthorised burger van parked on the road, litter and the concentration of vehicles around it
a general increase in traffic as the ‘industrial estate’ expands

What this is doing is stirring up a certain level of animosity with the natives. Trust me it’s not as bad as it was but the pressure being applied to the ‘powers that be’ is constant and sooner or later things are going to get worse for truckers as these powers get fed up with being asked ‘to do something about it’ and do something about it.

Can I suggest this; park overnight running gennies/fridges further up by BMW, Don’t use that burger van AT ALL. There is one as you go into Thorne down the industrial estate just before Smalleys. Their sausages are crap but the roads plenty wide enough for access. Better still, park up and walk down to the Delves Cafe (just beyond the rail bridge) and get an all day brekky for £3.20. It’s edible but the best value meal for miles around. The coffee’s dreadful.

Also, did you know there’s a gippo camp directly opposite the burger van on Mount Pleasant road? My mate’s been turned over twice this year alone.

Anyway, it seems to me that haulage bosses don’t think you getting a comfy nights sleep in an air-conditioned room part of their expenses cover so unless they put double yellows down trucks will always be there. I hope they don’t put any lines down because one day I might need to park there myself.

the above is decent advice if you know the local area, once in a class 1 and unsure of whats around you tend to grab the first suitable parking place you see.

Since when has driving past a line of parked trucks been ‘running the gauntlet?’ FFS .

Yeh, but he is a bit of a drama queen bless him. Just look how he got aerated and had a pop at me…gave me a laugh anyway

Quality post from Radar.

A rather dry, yet inflammatory effort. Nice.

Hi Mate good luck with your future plans, and thanks for the local info that you put in your post, but I think you might be in for a shock :open_mouth:

I would love the look on My bosses face if I put in for a night at a Premier Inn

Yep, I realise you knew this already or should have, as you’ve been on the forum to get the heads up on professional transport, but that aint going to happen, many don’t even like repairing the aircon on the trucks, let alone even think to fit a “pod”. Oh well

Wouldn’t happen in any other industry. I’ve never been away from work for any length of time and not had all my expenses paid. If the office temperature ever reached 26 degrees Celsius we were entitled to down pens and go out. We’re were also entitled to a 10 minute break every 40 minutes to avoid eye strain from looking at the same screen. Something similar to looking out of a window at the same view for hours, I would think.

Well, legally we are required to take a break after 4.5 hours of driving so I think it comes close

I started a thread a couple of months ago about a similar arse hole in a truck at Walton Summit ind est Bamber Bridge, going past lads with their curtains drawn blasting his horn :unamused:
Pricks of the highest order :imp:

Hello Nobroy, I was one of the people to comment on your inconsiderate parking at Bamber Bridge when you where hurling abuse at a driver and calling him a ■■■■ on this forum.
It is one thing having someone tooting a horn at people for fun but when you block the road parking in a dangerous place (I believe you may of even been on double yellows) making traffic back up along the road taking turns to run the gauntlet past a long row of trucks that is something else.
I see you are still an abusive idiot and dont think you are in a position to comment on parking.

I normally ignore complete dicks but in this case I’ll make an exception.
Not only are you an obnoxious idiot but a presumptious one as well.
Firstly I was parked safely and considerately at the top end which is in fact a dead end, no double yellows and under a light.
That’s about as far as I am going to lower myself answering to an imbecile.
As for being in a position to comment…my decision not yours.
Bye bye and keep following my posts.
Keep in touch with yourself. ■■■

Think his problem Rod, was that he got a bit of stick for admitting to being a ‘horn blower’ on the last thread he is on about. I started that thread, so he saw this as an opportunity to have another go at me. The ironic thing is that he apologised for implying I parked unsafe last time.
I’d forgot all about it until he reminded me. He must bear ‘forum related grudges’ :unamused:
Ah well the wife’s out tonight so it relieves the boredom anyway.

You on with the Council

10 minute break every 40 is to do with the type off light emitted from a screen, than the fact that you are sat staring/concentrating in 1 position for a long period

Horn Happy ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ is no excuse to blast a horn because someones curtains are closed…it doesnt just happen in side streets either, it has happened to me in a services…probably the same idiots who refuse to flash their headlights cos im on foreign plates…and to a lot of posters on this page, keep your nose out of other peoples business…for i am sure the drivers concerned know where and when they are allowed to park whether legal or illegal…none of your business…dont you just love em !

Driving along M18 past this area, I see that the road outside The Range / BMW now has a wonderful collection of “No Parking” cones all along the road … no doubt awaiting the “Double Yellows”
Another parking area lost :frowning: Not that I ever used that place … I’ve got a couple of other spots in that area

I don’t know if any of you guys know the Birch Coppice estate near Tamworth? There’s a UPS depot there who have convoys of foreign registered units in and out of there day and night. Last week 3 of the units decided to park up on the centre of the roundabout and another 2 in the bus layby. We get this daily, and theres a services about half a mile away at J10 M42, truck park there usually loads of spaces. Oh how I wish I had an RPG!!!

Well if the companies who own the trucks will not pay for parking in this rip off sh*tole country we all live in where TF do you seriously expect them to park? If my Boss won’t pay for parking i’m sure as hell not going to shell out for it , certainly at a MSA
