Would those of you justifying this by the… ‘‘private co’’ ‘‘would you let people come to your place free’’ thing etc etc .object if they started charging to use the actual toilets??
Same principle. same analogies.
Nearly there again:
So to be clear a private company is charging to use their facilities?Heavens forbidden they are not giving it away for free, would you allow someone to walk into your business, wash their bits in the sink and then get the mrs to clean up after them for free. Of course you wouldn’t.
Here is a bit of advice if your unable to buy a cup of coffee from the services to get a free shower your not making enough or too tight. See that over night cash you get, it isn’t free cash or a wage supplement. It’s to pay for this type of thing
are you serious or just playing devils advicote■■? Every single place i have worked as a driver or as a warehouse man has facilitys for drivers to shower and spend a penny every pub and resteraunt provides toilets that are clean and maintained.
All that is beside the point. Lets suppose they have a 20% mark up on food and petrol so they are making £2 on every £10 in the filling station or £1 on every fiver in the food hall. so if i spend a tenner on petrol i get a shower for 2 quid or a fiverin the food hall it will just cost me a pound. But if i am a driver i have to pay 3 quid or 35 quid plus for a shower,a 5 quid meal and a pothole ridden bit of gravel to park on.

Then don’t use it then. You are in charge of something that is able to move freely. Park somewhere else. Use wet wipes if they are that dirty
You choose to drive for a living. Get it into your head that your head its not a god given free right to turn up at a place of business and get a free shower. It’s your choice 5o spend the 3 quid buy something to get a free shower or bugger off elsewhere.
Also folk here are going on about its stuff like this that are causing folk to leave and not wishing to drive. Yes probably partly but also folk don’t want to have to take a job where you have to wash in a petrol station, work stupid hours, spend a fortune for the license, medicals, cpc agency saturated job market to name but a few reasons.
I personally left as some of the above was applicable. Not one person has left this role solely for having to actually use their overnight allowance for what it was intended for
ok lets try this another way…
if you have blonde hair its 4 quid to use the facilities if you have brown hair its only 2 quid but if you have black hair its 20 quid. it matters not weather people chose to boycot it or not the premise is wrong.
incidently i dont do tramping i have my showers at home but that isnt the point either.
It seems to coincide with energy prices rising tbf. A trucker coming in, parking up, using the facilities (including hot water presumably) and buggering off is not contributing anything other than leaving the showers needing cleaned. People feel so entitled these days.
When I stop for a shower whether I have to pay for it or not is largely irrelevant. If it’s free, then happy days, if I’m charged then my hourly rate more than pays for it.
If read advert it’s free if you pay for parking or spend so much in the shop.
Will cost people like me £3 a time to use.
IE I park in estates
my little out the way parking spots.
Usually within walking distance of local pub for tea.
Before I park up I tend to stop at services for a quick shower before I park up for the.night.
And again next morning on my travels.
I don’t mind paying as get 25 a night which pays for my nice pub meal and breakfast etc.
Red lion has good showers t bay truck stop is ok there’s a few truck stops that I’ll pay. For as there clean and warm.
What I don’t agree is paying £3for a shower where you have to keep one hand on a silver button to keep the water flowing then trying to have a wash with 1 hand.
Or having a wash in water that’s so slow coming out it’s useless
If the showers were decent I’d gladly. pay
Night out money is paid where the employer knows a Driver is using his cab to sleep in,he is permitted to pay 75% of the full going rate to cover washing ,food and the up keep of sleeping facilities. Night out, use your n/o money for a shower thats the purpose of it,unless you are one of those people who include n/o money as part of your take home wage.
I have mixed feelings on this.
I don’t agree with those who say, ‘I hate you and everything you do, but you owe me free stuff’.
Then there’s the thin end of the wedge argument, next paying for loos, soap, all parking etc.
But there is the point too, this isn’t aimed at truckers (unless I missed the line, ‘HGV drivers only’) many people use MSA’s and I’ve seen loads of car dwellers have a shower.
The ‘conditions’ to quality for a free shower seem acceptable to me.

Thanks for clarifying that…I’ll write it down so I remember ,.and no, I’ve never considered n/o SUBSISTENCE as my ‘‘wage’’.
It’s not a case of what your night out money is for, the problem is as I’ve said, there has been free showers at services for ■■■■ years…as long as I remember at least,.and that goes back to pre early 80s.
Of course I ain’t going to miss 3 ■■■■ quid ffs , it s the principle of it , not the actual thing it’s self
If they can’t provide a free shower (as well as free toilet facilities) private ■■■■ co or not, it’s a bad do,.and just another vindication of the fact of their contempt for truck drivers,.well illustrated in the extortionate prices they charge for parking,.where they put us, and the ■■■■ poor Burger ■■■■ King style ‘‘meals’’ they provide.
Hope that clarifies those who are mildly ■■■■■■ about it’…point of view.
Cheers.

Wasting your time/virtual ink Brother. None of the Einstein’s on here have realised that the £25 night out money hasn’t gone up in decades so every year it’s worth LESS…
Take £3 off an already in real terms decreased payment for something that used to be free and folk are lapping it up
Let’s all ask for worse conditions and start demanding in cab cameras too ffs
Some of the thickest people I’ve ever experienced on here.

Aye, if you like.

My argument is…
It’s now gonna cost me over £500 a year for something that was free.
I’m not in the habit of chucking £500 in the bin.
hypothetically and averages used to illustrate the point

So you are angry some private company is not willing to compensate your free showers.
You obviously don’t pay to park there or actually buy anything as it be coverd by that. So want of a better term your leeching off them

The private company…
That you accuse me of ‘leaching off’ has up until now provided free showers. I never leached, I used the facilities they provided free of charge. It was ok for decades but now, I have to pay. Why would I just accept that?
If you wanna bin £500 of your hard earned, send me a cheque.
I don’t disagree with paying for anything, I do disagree with paying for something that used to be free.
It’s not my fault their business model needs propping up, why should I subsidise their crap business decisions?

This guy…
Get’s it. Next prime minister/milk monitor right here.
robroy:
What do you expect from those rip off penny pinching 2hats.
Just remind me where Pennington MSA is btw.
They should be looking towards easing the driver shortage situation starting with reasonable parking charges for starters, even free parking.
He’s just running a buisness like the tories tell him to - do you want a communist republic where people give lorry drivers a free shower?
The only free shower you’ll get off a tory is a golden one.
