I used to listen to Radio 4 or the dutch station Arrow on AM (not sure if it’s still there) It was a lot like Classic Rock with loads of proper music and very little speech from the DJ’s. It used to boom out across the UK.
Over the water it would be Radio 4, the World Service (which was a lot of repackaged radio 4 output) or if in range BFBS or American Forces Network (AFN)
Haven’t listened to Radio 1 since Simon Bates, DLT et al. It’s too noisy these days (they feel they have to play some sort of backing noise when they’re talking) and tries too hard to influence the music industry by telling people what they should be listening to.
I wish Steve Wright would pack in the radio - he’s the only one I cant stand, annoying ■■■■
real xs classic rock station with steve berry in the morning round manchester liverpool even still tuned in north wales
Yes Steve Wright is WELL past his sell-by date.
I used to like Arrow. A friend (In Colchester) showed it to me when it was on 828KHz(?) but struggled badly with it around Lincoln.
Things were much improved when it shifted to 625 KHz(?) Then the MW frequency shut down and I since heard the Dutch taxman were after them, shame
I rarely listen to the radio these days, maybe a bit of today on radio 4, most of what I listen to is Iplayer on my phone, I get all the comedy and current affairs I need. I also listen to audio books also from my phone when I find a decent one on isohunt (I’m a cheap git) .
Annie Mac and Charlie Sloth two of the best on radio 1!!

What even with cutting edge jingles like this still in constant use?

I’ve chose not to listen to Radio 1 since Chris Moyles left. The station really is going to. The dogs.
Totally agree with this

Rhythm Thief,Glad to see somebody else enjoys the strangely captivating tones of Radio 4
(I do turn it off between 10 - 11 AM though!)
Ah, another fan of “Whining Wimmin”, the only show on radio with a chip on each shoulder. Yes it’s OK apart from that; thankfully though it coincides with Ken Bruce, who is now the only presenter worth listening to on R2 since Wogan retired.
I hit the off-switch if the Babbling Ball is covering for him though.

Weird thing with Steve Wright is don’t mind him in the workshop or warehouse but can’t stand him when I’m driving.

Radio 6 music is awesome.
Had it on all day one day over xmas, and never had a song twice.
Dammit forgot Charlie sloth !! found him on at 3am on a 1xtra takeover august bank holiday year and a half ago brilliant !!!
Best thing was hes nothing like almost as good as Westwood !!
Team rocks pretty good too
The only slightly annoying thing about R4 is that James Naughtie seems to like the sound of his own voice. A bit of Classic FM is good too.
