"No Dreamers Need Apply..."

I’ve seen a couple of job ads with the words “no dreamers…” To me this says "cowboy outfit/run by a complete prick. Is this a reasonable assumption? What is a “dreamer?” Someone who wants a decent wage, to not run bent or simply someone demanding spotlights and a microwave?

It’s like car adverts that say “no tyre kickers” what the actual ■■■■ does that mean?!
So if you go to see a car and don’t buy it because it’s a bag of ■■■■ you are a tyre kicker?

To me it says the gaffer or TM has actually seen both the business end of a truck and the customers. I’d apply straight away!

Seems like they want people who know what they want

Wanted: driver. Proper drivers need only apply, not some ■■■■ who has been sucked into spending money he never had by a spurious advert in The Sun newspaper.

Bugger, I thought I was in with a shout!

Only dieseldog99 need apply, as he is the only driver living life in the real world… allegedly :unamused:

What’s a dreamer, its a driver who thinks its a 9 to 5 job, home every night and paid very well also has a nice pension and works less that anyone else, and also drives the top of the range truck and never gets dirty and lifts nothing only opens the doors,
its called the dream job.

Or it means a time waster trying to fill a zb probably 7.5 - 18 tonner local multi drop/building deliveries/retail distribution sector etc etc job who views anyone looking for Class 1 full load distance/international/trunking work as a ‘dreamer’. :smiling_imp:

You also get the Tyre kickers who go and see a car, normally something a bit unusual or desirable, with absolutely no intention of buying it.

And as for the no for the no dreamers need apply, could be a load of bull in the advert to make the job sound something special or might be, maybe a European Tramping job, (I know for some that more of a nightmare than a dream  ) but there are some who’d apply for the job, thinking it’s one big holiday touring round Europe in the latest top of the range truck and spending weekends parked next to a beach or sightseeing, or others who’d blag their way into the job and leave as soon as they don’t get back on the first weekend.

Think you have nailed it in your first sentence - nightmare of a boss. £7.20 an hour, only pays on driving time, deduction for use of seat and cab heater.

“Trade Descriptions Act” has been softening down for years now.

When was the last time an advertiser was successfully litigated against - because it’s advert was full of bull designed to mug people?

The only job in the world that can be advertised with the employer seriously asking for someone “no dreamers please” is an experimental lab doing research into Sleep Apnoea who want Guinea pigs. One needn’t be a piggy or be worth 21 shillings either. I realize that must sound like a porker itself to most people though. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d class anyone who went to an interview for driving a 7.5 tonner for multi drop expecting to do class 1 euro work a idiot myself

I think this sums it up. I guess the likes of transam trucking get lots of people thinking they will be hanging out the back of a groupie on tour with the foo fighters when the reality is you will be starting your working day after the concert then driving through the night to get to the nextop venue and be away from home for weeks or months at a time.
Suits some but it ain’t for everyone.

I would bet that what he really means is ‘‘No Real drivers with a brain’’ need apply.

Dreamers are the type who ‘dream’ of driving a V8 Scania or something Toprange, with a rack of Hella lights (that will more than likely have to come out of their ■■■■ poor wage) while wearing a pair of shades and arm out of window, thinking that everybody thinks how cool they look, where in reality we are all thinking one word…‘KNOB’
The sad fact is if I AM accurate he WILL get drivers. :unamused:

The other classic you sometimes see in job adverts is “We are looking for someone who takes a pride in what they drive”. This is code speak for: You will be expected to polish the ali & stainless paraphernalia attached to the truck in your own time.

As said earlier its i think applies to someone who thinks its 10-12 days home every night driving a tip of the range truck on top money. When the reality is max spread over or driving every week Friday is full shift not an early finish as some drivers I know seem to think it is ie refuse a Glasgow day run as it means they will finish later than 4pm.

Trade Descriptions Act does not (and never did) apply to job vacancy ads.

Sent using smoke and mirrors

You’re right… I think I was thinking of the application of ■■■ Discrimination Act to adverts…

I seem to remember seeing job vacancies that had things like “Excepted Vacancy - ■■■ Discrimination Act” for things like “Tarzanarama”

I read this week that “79% of Muslim women are unemployed” - which of course implies that us infidel white folk are discriminating against them for jobs…
Load of bull of course - A Muslim boss is going to be reluctant to take them away from their kitchen sinks, and in any case - very few of the Muslim Women counted for such a daft survey - are actually going to even be looking for jobs in the first place! I’d imagine if they applied to a White boss - they’d get a job thrown at them in panic! …Then they’ll decide themselves that it isn’t appropriate for a married Muslim selves to work in a predominately white environment, or unmarried Muslim female to work anywhere at all with young randy blokes - even of their own religion!
