Spotify is the dogs Bo locks, I couldn’t do without it these days. Not played a CD in many a year. Come join us in 2017, get a cheap smartphone, download Spotify and BOOM, all the music you ever wantedAgreed even the free version is good nobody uses a CD player anymore, 30gb on the 3 network and sorted.
I have heard of drivers who listen to radio 2, a vicious rumour which i refuse to believe.
Do I have to stop listening to radio 2 when I get my hgv licence then?

I remember the days when we had to supply our own entertainment…a radio with a powerpack was the norm in cars…but in my maudsley i had to fit an 8 track, then when i got promoted to a thames trader, took it with me, well that was till the cassettes player came about…whats all this with a cd, i thought thats what you needed to get a job…how times have changed
Anyway, until recently, my car had a Cd player and cassette ( all in one ) with multi changer ( held 12 ) but since i changed cars i only have a cd, but it does play mp3 so thats all good but sadly no multi changer.I think your boss is being mean fisted by going for the cheapest option of a bare basic radio, with no cd player. as for paying £10 a month for spotify, no thanks i
ll continue downloading and putting it onto cds that i can take in the truck and the car, and even from youtube as well..illegal or not, but i literally have hundreds of cd
s full of the music i love.Ironically I’ve still got cassettes and the original cassette player in the Jag and the old home JVC cassette deck I’ve had since the 1980’s with loads of music on cassettes going back to the 1970’s.While I never got round to getting a CD recorder. But only have a CD player in the Zafira but which won’t play DVD’s although I’ve got a DVD recorder.

In which case the most practical option seems to be to replace both cars’ radio cassette or CD with car radio/DVD player options.
Which leaves the problem that the agenda seems to be the eventual removal of the CD and probably logically DVD options.Because the corporate world stitch up knows that Tivo/hard drive type home recording media is totally incompatible with mobile car etc use.Which they obviously intend to force along the lines of the subscriber only mobile phone/Spotify type of set ups.Which answers the OP’s question in that it’s probably more a case of that agenda than the thing being specced with just a radio.
On that note I’d guess that I phone and USB would be the next best option.Although again obviously dependent on paying for an expensive phone and phone data charges and fitment of USB capable radio in the truck.
That tin foil hat of yours must be getting a bit worn out at this stage. You’re coming across as well out of your depth on this subject, fancy that
why would you pay for anything when its all free? internet piracy may be classed as a crime, but theres as much chance of coming to greif as for not having planning permission for your tv ariel. download music, films,tv,computer games, and everything you might need to buy for your pc programs online.steal everything, and once youve stolen it and kept it for yourself…its still there online waiting for another 100000000000 users to steal it also…its not costing the movie industry millions, its only stopping from making extra millions over and above the millions there making anyway. they have blocked direct access to torrent sites,so just use proxy servers to access them and carry on regardless.its all free( theres now a few annoying ads that didnt use to be there,) but you can download everything you can thik of without adverts in the middle…happy days all round.

I bet your house is like a museum
Absolutely.1980’s JVC RX 777 Super A A/V receiver/amp linked up with a TDW 201 twin cassette deck,Celestion speakers at one end of the room and Tannoys at the other, and interconnecting a Panasonic S VHS HiFi VCR,and more up to date Panasonic DVD recorder and cable TV Tivo box.As I said the only slight problem obviously being no universal HDMI inter connectivety. So other than the Tivo and DVD out,to TV in,direct connections, everything else is linked by phono and SCART connections. The whole system sounds bleedin awesome. As only a decent old school classic Hi Fi set up can,at even half volume. But can only really be used to best effect when the neighbours are away.
Also the small problem of having forgotten all about and been left behind by the introduction of CD recorders and the Zafira having a CD player.
Obviously, probably like DVD,that soon to to be made obsolete anyway so that the mobile phone service providers and music middle men can make a few bob out of people wanting to play music on the move.

Great so you’re saying that playing a Youtube vid,on demand,on an I phone or on the tele,or on a computer,is supposedly theftHe didn’t say that and you know it. The crime is in recording it and you know that full well too.
Really. So you’re saying that the Sweeney are routinely raiding people’s houses for recording a film broadcast the tele with Tivo or DVD. Oh wait that’s only if they then play it out in the car instead of indoors. At which point it becomes a job for the customs and excise squad backed up by tactical armed support group using helicopters.
Well, I never thought my thread about the lack of a CD player and a ‘spotty fly’ would run to three pages, and venture onto the thorny subjects of music piracy and corporate media stitch ups. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions, especially Switchlogic.
For now, I’m going to dig out my trusty iPod which has a fair amount of playlists on it, until I get a bit more sussed with the alternatives. However, I’m waiting with bated breath now for Wednesday when I next drive, to see if I have a USB port in the truck.
As for mean fisted bosses, that’s the Dutchies for you. The Dutch are always looking for a good ‘korting’ (discount) and to save a few Euro cents somewhere. The bosses probably just went to the local MAN agents to negotiate a good deal, as long as the unit was in black. They probably never even asked about a CD player. I can’t imagine them specifically asking for this awful light tan interior that I’ve got so probably the truck was already built and on a forecourt somewhere.

No, the light tan is part of the facelift for MY2017. One of the many reasons MAN dropped off my list of possibles very early.
As for the lack of CD, Scania is the same, but then they are both Volkswagen AG brands so its probably the same head unit.

I’m going to call it a day here as you’re getting ever more ridiculous, its hard debating with someone on premod and you clearly have next to no knowledge at all about this subject

Seriously the issue of recording stuff using DVD etc off the tele isn’t anything that anyone is going to be bothered about. Not surprising bearing in mind that they aren’t going to set any precedents which would send the Tactical Support Group around to sort out pensioners for recording Gone With the WInd,or Andy Williams, on the Video recorder.

So I have all the entertainment that I could need in the lorry for £80 a month.
80 quid? Thats ok if youre a tramper. Might be worth it then but can a day (or night) man justify that expense?
And what about us agency drivers? I dont want to spend three hours work paying for that thank you very much…

I’m a tramper, and on the boxes too so plenty of time every day to enjoy the fruits of the £80.

No, you need to stop now, the only thing worse than Radio 2 are the breakfast shows on commercial radio stations, the ones where they have 2 presenters and constant adverts total ■■■■■■
I can take or leave the ginger. Hate Jeremy Vine but enjoy everyone else. Thing is though I like heavy metal. But if I drive with devildriver blasting out my right foot gets heavy and I get a bit aggressive. Radio 2 and chill.

I know I know, stupid of me. I also notice he’s also done that thing where he completely details a thread and starts talking about nonsense that’s unrelated to the original question. Thankfully this time the OP got his answers before this happened

Leave it out.The OP clearly asked why CD players would be deleted from new vehicles. In which case I provided a ( very ) credible answer.Which seems to have upset those who are happy to pay the mobile phone service providers and mobile music middle men.It obviously being in the interests of those providers to corner that market and then charging whatever that market will stand. The mods obviously agreeing that answer not ‘derailing the topic’.

Just for fun, I’ve had a look back at this…
Your (throw-away) mention of a museum seems to have unfortunately opened the door for all manner of Carryfast induced irrelevance being launched at us poor unsuspecting punters from Carryfast’s Katyusha launcher.
I’m still struggling to find a connection between a household sound system and whether (or not) a vehicle is fitted with a CD player, so I’m thinking of calling Toby in to referee it.
And may have mercy on our souls.
