No air con is illegal

Was talking to a driver today who is a bit of a I called the police to chalk round the lorry and had 11 hour break on the bay merchant. I mentioned my old lorry the air con was broke and the guy driving was melting.
Next thing he was saying he wouldn’t drive it and it was I legal for it not to work and all new lorry’s must have it and his boss had to fit those auxiliary air con pods on to a lorry.
The thing is so many believe this old crap.

Excellent thread A+++++++ will read again 10/10.

Its only Illegal, if you don’t have an Ice cream van in following

would love to have seen some of these muppets 20/30yrs ago driving :unamused:

Actually it is illegal sort of to have a faulty air con unit. Due to the dangers of leaking gasses into the cab whilst the driver is asleep.

Fault identification and rectification is a priority on elf and safety grounds, also fire risk and any other bollox I can come up with.

However these h & s grounds dont carry much weight when its just the driver who might wake up dead.

Seriuosly though think this is RDC bullshine I started ages ago …

I think we should do this as a TrucknetUK equivalent of Alex Lester’s Slap My Top. We should each come out with some completely preposterous ■■■■■■■■ at a RDC and see how long it takes to get spread about the country.

Though you already did this ?

Apparently you are only allowed to put a maximum of 3 handfulls of grease on the 5th wheel, anymore and you risk excess grease falling on the road and causing an accident!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Only worry if it’s a cyclist [emoji6] they’re immune to everything so be used to slipping out of any responsibility

You can be fined in Europe for running the engine whilst stopped to run the air con and the same in the winter to heat the cab.
There are guide lines for maximum and minimum temperatures to be exposed to at work under health and safety.
Most European drivers have air pods on the cab roof that run at night to cool the cab.

I was asked by a driver from another company if I “had a qualification in maintenance?”

No was my reply. “Oh right” he says, " you shouldn’t really be doing that then, should you?" He looked smug as ■■■■.

I was greasing up the Manitou… :unamused:

I think that the factories act, enforced by HSE says that workplace temperature should not exceed 30c degrees C

It doesnt stay hot enough here for it to law.

It amazes the bs people come out with at RDCs…this is why I hate delivering to them. Luckily we don’t do that many.

One of our day drivers (got one of the new Actros 2543s) complained to the DGM that, as it only has 1 bunk/bed or whatever you wanna call it in, he will refuse to do his night out (1/month) because (and I ■■■■ you not) 'it is only a rest cab & not a sleeper cab so I can’t be expected to sleep in it)!!! And while I’m here, the new bloke on nights says that if you get pulled by DVSA, you can refuse to open the trailer if requested to do so…not 100% sure of this so I’m off to the Govt website…it says so on there apparently but I need to make sure, before I call him a prick or learn something new!

Funny thing is Radar, he used to do it in a Scania… P cabbed 420…it’s the one on the right in the pic! And the second bit of my post (DVSA/opening trailer) seems to be acceptable (after coming across a thread on here about load restraint) but be prepared for them to dig deeper!
