Cool , thanks for that , i have an assesment with them friday
As far as I have read on here it may be easier in a W&D but you could do an assessment in both to see how you feel about them if you do do it in a W&D you could always spend a day with an artic just so you have both options

This was the route I took and would go along with that 100%
i did my class 1 nd 2 with nithcree late last year, the instructers are very good and have very good experiance storys. they take you out on the back roads on the first day and then they start taking you into the town center, the only peice of advice i would say is that the car drivers in dumfries are complete lunatics, nearly had about 4 or 5 drivers crash into me cause they cant judge how much swing you need, especially in dumfries, some of the roads are extremely tight but the trainers will take you out with them driving to show you the lines.
My experience with nithcree was brilliant all the instucters are very very helpfull, you can have a laugh with all of them. i would highly Recomend nithcree
Nick
Brill, cheers nick
if you know the roads in dumfries then nithcree would probably be your best bet
are nithcree still running their own transport side?
lol …yup dumpfries drivers are /were as daft as a bag o frogs…the edinburgh rd (a75) roundabout was always a experience wi cars trying to undercut you when going straight across (well west-east).

as far as i know nithcree only have the training school , and yes that roundabout is still the same if not worse
yeah its just a training school now, they use the depot part to train fkt drivers. but they still train you to back on to the loading bay.
When i was training i remember a taxi blocking me in on burns statue, he had stopped in a yellow box and just waited for sombody coming from the other direction to let him out, but the traffic was at a stand still. so my instructer (Mich) told me to go as close as i can to try and hurry him up, i went until i was about a foot or two away from him and he then started honkin his horn and shouting at us, so mich got out of the cab and went to see him. When mich got back into the cab the taxi reversed back and i asked him what he said, bassicly he told him to remove his bahookie from the box or he would shove the artic up his arse … fair to say the instucters at nithcree dont take any crap from the car drivers, they tell you to blast the horn at them to show them the errors of their ways lol

Very Professional…
Pot Noodle anyone?
yup thats nithcree i can remember when they used the trucks for training then at night they ran a night trunk with them.
I did my training at galashiels wi jim faulkner start o the 80s.
Must be getting on as i can mind when dumfries had 3 companies doing training.
charlie l auder, eric …? (had a blue cargo wi 40ft tandemn trailor) ran a man& a blue roadtrain on wi curries . ,nithcree.
jimmy
last i heard nithcree where trying to team up with currie european to do some night shift drives again so the trainee can get exp in driving a loaded wagon, but charlie lauder lends them some trailers if nithcree needs them. i got a charlie lauder flat bed when hurricane baw bag hit scotland. i think Nithcree is the only place in dumfries now, they are always going out and about.
Nithcree not a good experience ! drove 70 miles round trip for a driving assesment to be told that the wagon had broken down , thats was a day off work , my time when i asked could they not have called me an let me know the reply was sorry didn,t know you were coming , NOT GOOD ! did reimburse my petrol tho .

My experience of them wasn’t great either.
We had two apprentice mechanics that we wanted to put through their C and C+E. Popped into Nithcree when I was in in Dumfries to enquire about course availability, and despite spending over 20 mins in their office still didn’t manage to get anywhere. Girl behind the desk spent most of the time trying to explain the ins and outs of how to get the licences, despite me explaining on several occasions to her that she was preaching to the choir and that all I wanted to know was about course availability and did they want a deposit now!
Eventually managed to get her to take my mobile number and she promised someone would call me later that day, but after 2 days of trying to get hold of THEM I gave up. Eventually booked the courses at Ritchies in Glasgow, who as soon as they heard of my interest SENT someone on the 120 mile round trip that afternoon to see me at our offices and had the courses reserved for me within half an hour of arriving.
Based in Dumfries.
I have my class 2 licence which I got in 2008. Now looking to start training for my class 1 in the summer hopefully. I am interested in this company because you do it in an artic and not wagon and drag.
Has anybody on here used this company. Would like to know peoples experiences with them.
Thanks
Have you been to visit them yet as that would be the 1st thing I done
Have you looked at any other companies in your area ( I know not many )
Not visited them yet no.
I did my class 2 in the Borders and was very happy with the instructor.
The fact that this is in an artic appealed to me. I suppose it makes no difference at the end of the day.
I did my class 1 with Nithcree, they were very good, the only thing you need to watch out for is driving in and around Dumfries when the trucks are heading for/from Stranraer. It’s interesting
A friend of mine suggested doing it in Berwick as it is a much easier test route which would probably be the best idea. Still, doing it in an artic is more appealing.
He also did his training with Nithcree in Dumfries and said they were very good. He also had another driver learning with him at the same time. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Suppose it won’t be as tiring.
Just out of curiosity, how easy is it to get class 1 work with agencies with no class 1 experience?

TBH you would be better doing the training in Dumfries, if you are local you will know the roads, and there is no point going for the easier option, what are you going to do when you pass your test? You can’t take the quiet roads all the time. Two learners is the norm, and after a certain amount of time you stop learning if you are on your own, there is only so much you can take in, then the boredom sets in.
