Night Shift Route To Erith?

Is it possible to get to Erith with a loaded articulated truck during the times that the London Lorry Control weight restrictions apply without a permit?

The direct route after the Dartford crossing is to turn onto the A206 at junction 1A, then take the A2016 (Bronze Age Way) at the roundabout but this route has weight restriction signs ( google.co.uk/maps/@51.48048 … 312!8i6656 )

I cannot see any weight restrictions signs on google maps if I continue to follow the A206 from that roundabout, turn off onto the A2041 and follow it to Eastern Way ( google.co.uk/maps/place/Nor … eccdc0cfca )

However according to this map that route is also under the restrictions hgvcity.com/Lorry_Routes/Lor … Routes.pdf

there is no other way mate what ever direction you approach from you enter it but i used to work in that area and lorry’s went in from the bridge all night long i think the ban actually starts at the roundabout in erith with the fish in the middle

I have been there a Month ago. Did go as Map shows. Left Hatfield via Dartford and left M25 at Junction 1.
One Bridge with 16’2" but no other Bridge. Dont remember Night Ban. Drove at 07.00 over Bridge.
Direction is to Frozen Warehouse. (2nd Entry)

That is the route that I also followed but it does have a 16 ton weight restriction on it from the roundabout onto the A2016 which is applicable between the hours of 2100 - 0700 Mon to Fri, 1300 - 0700 Sat & all day Sunday, I only followed that route as I misread the sign.

You can see the weight restriction sign if you zoom in on the google map link that I included.

I know that route is not possible, not sure on the other route that I mentioned…anyone know the area?

The ban starts at the sign - I recently went through a traffic sign at a different location thinking it wouldn’t be applicable straight away and it cost me £100 and 3 points. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=133458 - not making that mistake again

I know the approach on the A206 from the opposite direction (Woolwich) also has weight restrictions so taking the A2 onto the South Circular or even the A102 is not possible either.

I am asking the question just in case I am asked to go there again!

I’ve been down the 206 to it (I think it’s ISIS Reach you mean■■?) outside the permitted hours, never heard a dickie bird about it. I’ve had a had a good look since, and can’t see any cameras.

There’s loads of motors going in there at all hours, not to mention the Lidl down the road, doubt they’ve all got permits.

Glad to hear that, it was on the same night I messed up at the Dartford Crossing so 3 points and a £100 fine is enough for one nights work.

Not sure what you mean.

I think that’s the name of the site it’s on. I think it must be. I’m sure there’s only one on Norman Road, you have to go up to the roundabout and come back on yourself. Then when you get there, they make you turn around on the back yard, when you only wanted to go front yard anyway. It was the very first class 1 drop I ever did.

Isis Reach is correct, I have just zoomed in google maps and spotted it on the slip road sign post - dodgy name or what :open_mouth: google.co.uk/maps/place/Nor … eccdc0cfca

… and they also sent me to the back only to then have to spin around and go to the bays at the front.

I got shouted at by their shunter because I didn’t go down to the bottom to spin around… Only been driving a few weeks at the time.

This area seems strange with the lorry control restrictions. That map to me says you can get to Asda…but when you drive down that road signs tell you there is a timed weight limit. It seems as though the weight limit should start after that roundabout unless I’m reading the map wrong. Been down there at night in the car and seen plenty of artics heading up and down it. Lorry control is a pain in the arse. Travelled through rush hour to the Ind Estate behind Spitalfields Market due to 18t limit before 7am. Only approved route I could see had a weight limit according to my truckers atlas. Turns out it must have been removed or upgraded as I went over it on the way out and straight to the a12 FFS!!!

I had a second look at google maps and found another weight restriction sign hiding in the bushes on the A206 google.co.uk/maps/@51.48086 … 312!8i6656 so the alternative route I was proposing down to the A2041 is also a non-starter for deliveries when the restriction is active… … and with this route ruled out I cannot see any possible way to get to this location when the restriction is in force - Can anyone else?

There was a few other trucks using the same route so maybe am I being a bit pedantic abut this? I am in ultra cautious mode due to the 3 points that I have just got as I don’t want any more!

The restriction sign states ‘except for permit holders’ so when ASDA gave me a load to transport to their Erith DC during these times I assume that although I was not driving one of their vehicles or an ASDA employee I was covered by their permit? Hmm

Am a right to be a bit ■■■■■■ off that I wasn’t informed of the restrictions, ASDA planners must be aware of the restrictions between two of their own distribution centres, right?

Not 100% about the points but other posts on here about weight limits mention fines but said no points…someone more in the know can probably confirm. If you were an Asda supplier they preasumably leave it to the haulier to request permission to use the routes, if you are driving for Asda I should think they would arrange a permit as a matter of course. But durely if thats the case they should have provided you with the approvēd route to use.

They sell a drivers guide with map for the control area. Keep thinking I should get one but kind of disagree with paying for it as it seems just another ripoff. Also no info is provided for drivers…first two times I came to London I really struggled as hadn’t even heard of lorry control!!!

i always go straight through restriction .

whole area is a nightmare for them .

to hell with the consequences !!

also maybe ISIS way is named in honour of Belmarsh just down the road ■■?

There’s another restriction I’ve been through in Leytonstone. I’d driven past a drop, assuming the entrance was beyond the building, but they share an entrance with someone else. Nowhere to spin around, ended up at a set of lights with a 7.5 limit to the left, no through road straight ahead, and the timed 18t limit to the right, so I turned right and headed off down that road until I found somewhere to turn around - which was about a mile or so. Another time I was approaching it from the other direction, and my satnav informed me that part of my route was subject to timed restrictions (that’s all it says, it can’t deal with all the details and days and times etc) so off I headed, keeping my eyes open for signs. There was one, and the bottom section of it was either folded over or missing, so I had no idea what the restriction time was. Came out the other side and that sign read that it had been limited for over 2 hours.

Never heard a peep on either count.

I’ve been there quite a few times on weekend afternoons and went A206 A2016 and nothing has ever come of it, I was always booked in for 14.00 so what was I supposed to do ?

I went there every Monday and Wednesday at around 5am for nearly three years, I was never picked up on the timed weight limit.
On occasions when there were delays on the M25 I took different routes in, but the same weight limits surround the area, so it would be impossible as far as I can see to get there without going through timed weight limits.
Just carry on and go in was the solution I came to and it did me no harm.

to be fair i think you would be fine some told me they enforce it with wathchers in cars weather theres anything in that i dont no
