night outs

what’s it like on a night out in a lay by i would like to know to see what im up agaisnt many cooks on the road ?

Beware Gordon Ramsey! (I’m guessing you mean crooks, and not cooks!) - Either that, or as a newbie I don’t know the lingo…

Dont you mean CROOKS anyway i have spent many a night in a lay-by, but if it looks dodgy i would not stop there, some are good, some are bad, if you have a curtainsider the risks are obviously greater of getting them slashed, i pulled fridges and still took care, as there are many diesel thieves about.

haha, yes i did mean crooks

okay thanks, another question! if you travel to europe in a hgv can you take you partner with you i dont mean as in double manning just genrel tag along■■?

Absolutely, so long as you ok it with the boss, dont forget a hi-viz for her, just in case you have to get out of the truck on a motorway ( breakdown for eg ) and also if she gets out of the cab at premises. enjoy yourself.

thats good thanks for the adivse/answers :arrow_right: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Flippin heck ,the geezer hasent parked in a layby overnight yet and hes already promised their lass a run out to the continent ,crack on

If it has to be N/out in a layby , I always try to find one “set back” from the road - nice wide grass verge ( even better if a few trees / bushes to cut out the noise ).
Don’t get “rocked” by every passing vehicle … also don’t get Plod putting a ticket on your windscreen @ 1am for parking without lights

Couldn’t agree more with that, I can put up with the noise but the constant rocking gets on my wick

No your giving the thieves more of an opportunity if you park up like that, i have to be in an open lay by with fuel tank facing the road, sad but true, i am usually to tired to bother about the other traffic

Crap. They stink of pi$$, there’s nowhere to get a wash and nowhere to go to the toilet which is why they smell of pi$$. The bushes are usually littered with bottles of a very familiar yellow fluid and just don’t go opening any carrier bags you see. You spend all night with the cab being rocked by every single passing vehicle including cars and worrying whether your trailer curtains will still be in one piece come the morning.

If you do get stuck close to the road, winding the trailer legs down will help prevent rocking. And fold your mirrors in.

Mad, unless your an owner driver it’s not your fuel, and all it needs is another lorry driver to nod off and take you with him and perhaps your tired because you sleep within inches of the road

Surely - that’s motorway service areas - the OP was asking about laybys

No that’s laybys

I’ll stop earlier or run over my time to get parked safely. Had my fair share of nights in a lay by when I’ve ran out of time and hated everyone that’s on a main drag. I never sleep well and card is in after 9 hours so I can get out.
The way Ive seen some parked at night is shocking it’s a wonder any of em sleep, then again they’re probably the same idiots that walk down the white lines of a live motorway when they’re jumping out of the cab with no fear

as conner points out laybys are not good, everyone would like an off the road hideaway but they do have risks, I normally go for safety in numbers but still only fuel in the morning even if it means moving to another services as they watch who fills up. and park near moving traffic even if you drive in the spot to keep the cab away from passing motors but the trailer can be seen easily as a lot of Europeans do. most of the trucks already there will be gone before you in the morning anyway so easy to reverse out and go on your way.
