Night out on the Bay

Now I know this is a myth but last night I had my second ever night out on the bay. Mainly due to a short staff ■■■■ up, handball load and me offering to run my time out and stay with the vehicle overnight so the few lads who where working could relax and tip me at their leisure providing it was done by my 9 hour rest completion.
Fair play to the boys working on me rear end as I hardly felt a thing and had a great nights kip, not often I can say that.

First occasion was at an Asda, another staffing issue mixed with a shift change and me just acting daft and going to bed albeit with the permission of the shift manager who was very new.

Anybody else nighted out on a bay or am I the only one.

Many times it’s no big thing

When you say ‘Short Staff’ ■■■■ Up, do you mean Short of Staff or Short Little Staff, surely there must be a European Directive or a Health & Safety Issue concerning the allocation of Short & Long People ?ladders & bending of the knees come to mind !

I’m seeing a different side to you now

Companies used to be a lot more relaxed about parking on loading bays, when I was on for Frans Maas, we would park on the bays regular, leave the paperwork with security guard. Didn’t need to set an alarm, as soon as they started working the trailer in the morning that wold wake you up

I know that’s not the same scenario as what the OP is describing, but nowadays, no where seems to want you onsite overnight, let alone on a bay :unamused:

its totally fine dave as long as you do your legal chalk outline around the truck to cover with vosa

you mean…after they coned off 1 bay each side of the 1 hes tipping on,with instructions for nobody to come near the truck in case it wakes the driver up…

I would be worried, a great nights sleep whilst people are slipping in and out of your rear end emptying your load - in a situation that involved at least one ■■■■ up, what was in that tea they brought you? :unamused:

Twice. Same place.

Both times I’d been in there more than 6 hours, and they’d had more than 3 hours notice that my time was up at X (known snails pace place). Both times I said fark orf, I’ll be gone in 9 hours.

If any complaint was made to my company it never got back to me.

A.

Once at an ASDA Wakefield was there over 3 hrs I had told them more then once how long they had still nope so was there the night good part was got to use there canteen & facilities daft thing was I had been there the day before was in al of 20 min that day

Nearly at a Tesco was there for over 6 hr told them again more than once asked how long I would be they wouldn’t say told them they had 30 min or would be there the night when told them how long had been there they realised there had been a mess up was out the place in 10 full 26 pallets off & paperwork sorted

Used to tip at an animal feed mill near Edinburgh. If they weren’t desperate for the load I’d park in the corner of the yard. Go for my tea and a couple of pints. The intake bloke would give you a knock a few hours later that hopper was clear. Back onto the bay, open the door and lift it a couple of ram sections. The intake used to run on a nice slow speed so the feed ran out gently. Jump into bed for a few more hours and wake up to a lovely empty trailer and the intake tidied up.

Funny a couple of our other drivers would turn up and told to come back in the morning! They would then hit the traffic over to KGV docks whereas id be over to the dock and loaded and heading out of Glasgow before the bad traffic!

I must have had loads an loads of ‘nights out on the bay’

Only once; Yearsleys at Coleshill, no drama really, it suited me and it suited them. There was no mention of chalk, cones, police helicopters or closing the yard down. Bit disappointing really!

I had that Twice.
On M5,Just a bit south of Bristol.
Pulled in and got sent to Bay. Left it after 11 Hour.
Next Day off
Then back down. 8 Hour on Parking and 9 Hour on Bay.
Back to Lutterworth the Guy said.No.You not going there anymore. Musst first find out why.
Well,wasnt my Fault.
Was no unfriendly, did just as Told. Didnt even know whats on the Trailer.

I had an unexpected night out at Heathrow cargo centre, when there was a problem with the Icelandic volcano and ash cloud. Arrived at 3pm on a Friday, left 3pm Saturday. Slept in the parking area after a few choice words with my office and the reception (term used lightly) staff at the freight handling company. I think they were struggling to accept more freight as there was no where to store or even palletise on aircraft skids. My office said I couldn’t bring it back until it was offloaded, as it was booked on a flight, which coincidentally took off at 13:30 on the Saturday so it didn’t even make it onto the plane!
Still, got paid an extra nights out dough, and I was on overtime rate by the time I arrived until I got back!

Oh I forgot about the night I spent inside Isuzu motors engine bay at Luton, gate house guy near had a fit when I left in the morning, drivers aren’t allowed to stop onsite overnight, he ranted, I wasn’t parked I was tipping I replied  , “for 9 hours”  , the first stillage lifted at 9pm, the last one at 6am. The fact I was out of time at 9pm and couldn’t be arsed to run off site without a card, so the receiving guy said leave it there driver just don’t close your curtains, was a bonus

I received a very nice ■■■■■■■■ there, years ago, took a Girlfriend with me in a D Series 7.5 tonner, was in the queue for sooooo long, we covered the windows with cardboard & passed the time playing with Little Viking [emoji4] (although he was BIG at the time)
