Don’t forget that author is inquiring about Class 2 tipper work…
Unless its animal feed i didn’t think you even had C2 trampers in tippers.

I thought that as well, but apparently some do some special materials as well - not animal feed.
But for example - I’ve seen McDaid Bros, Owenden, TJ Transport and Midlands Quarry smth C2 tippers with sleepers and fluffed up beds, first 3x I’ve seen even on muckaway jobs…

If i can i will max the hours out if im tramping. Thats why you see tippers racing to the weighbridge before they close so you can tip and then drive off for a few more hours to the next job if possible instead of parking up at 5pm.
kyk, did you read this…

yt03, so what kind of work you do yourself…?
globby:
No weekend work Midlands based. A lot of work is based around the country. Company has 30 motors including artics. Colours blue and red and PAYE
S and J?
I have done 13.5 hour shifts in my current job but that’s in the summer when I usually do a couple of hours screening soil in the evening.
Currently doing 12-12.5 hour days this week as we’re getting a free muck tip on a private site which I have the key to the gate. I load myself up about 5am in our yard.
Ejector trailers and walking floors now, did 18 months on tippers for a company called l j brumptons and believe me you work all hours you can, but I was paid hourly with them.
OK, so give me your regular day scenario - where do you manage to wait around/stuck for so long to do 15h shifts…?
I understand if you are paid by hour and do that deliberately…
G.Webb for example do long distance C2 tramping - each time I go to work his STILL sleeping in lay by and when I go back home his ALREADY sleeping in layby. (That was not one day - they do that in that particular place all time )
If we talk about authors particular blue&red’s C2’s I regularly see them in one place taking long break - supposedly 45 around 11:30-12:30 so… math doesn’t add up for regular multidrop slavery hours scenario…
We can get given 3 Hull to Derby in a day, it’s easy to do a 15 if you have jobs to crack on with, we’ve obviously had a clash on views or personality so let’s not ruin the lads post lol

Its everything other than animal feed.
My vehicle would be a scania G400.
Im keen to try. Ive done a lot. Sick of multi had class 2 over 10 years.

Only class 2’s I know are Scottish… (That tramp)

I would vote for - go for it and say there is 90% chance you might love it, but will hate small cab…

The ones I mentioned (Class 2/tipper/Tramping) - looked about like this( drivers ):
McDaid Bros = Old Irish
Owenden = Old English
TJ Transport = various - full range
Midlands Quarry smth = Old English and young EE
G.Webb = Old English
Oh… I guess you meant something else… sorry…
But i think they might be doing muckaway just as “backload” as they were on “cheap jobs” and only for few loads… I guess that’s how they make money - bring some fancy stuff in London then on way back take some muckaway… just curious…
Maybe this list of my observations about Class 2 tipper firms is usefull for someone here at some point in future…
Mick George run class 2 tippers who tramp.
The ones I’m referring to all wear white wife beaters with bean stains down the front…Yuill and Dodds
By the way author - if you go for it, please let us know how it is to live in those tiny, dusty Scanias on Class 2 / Tipper / Tramper work…?
Othervise I can’t figure out how they manage to keep them so clean all the time… and/or sleep in dusty cabs…
G cabs aren’t small. Earthline have drivers out most of the week in P cabs, although in fairness those out Monday to Thursday now have G cabs.
Why do so many of the tipper tramper firms have such big tipper bodies? I know Webbs do shredded rubber for horse arenas, but is it for carrying contaminated muck (ie material has to be completely enclosed)? G. Webbs must be fun to load with anything smaller than a 13t excavator or a Cat 966 shovel.
Thanks everyone. I will keep you posted. Company is S & J Transport. An experienced crew.
S&J trucks are often parked up for the night outside
Mountsorel quarry.
