New Truck Park - Glasgow

stagedriver:
In fairness, why not? I’ts giving drivers a chance to express their views on what they would like to see and give it 24 hours, this post will be on page 3 or 4. Therefore meaning that some will not see it.

Google Maps

Follow Woodilee Road until you see a long layby, we own the layby and all the land to the left of it. The large concrete patch and building are what will become the truck park.

Sadly, Google hasn’t been updated to show the new motorways running along side it!

I thought this place was in Glasgow on the new motorway at the end of the M74■■ The link you’ve made puts it nowhere near Glasgow and closer to the [zb] Campsie mountains. WTF :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

No, it’s off the new M80/A80.

Google doesn’t show it at present, considering it only opened a week ago. We’re 3mins from the M80/A80, 8mins from the city centre and 6 mins from the M8.

OK. Not really of any use to anyone coming from the south to Glasgow and going back then as it’s too far out of the way. I guess it’ll be good for anyone going past Glasgow further north though.

Your right it’s not.

But if your going from the south up north your going to go right past it!

What time do you serve meals to on a Friday and a Saturday night ?

It’s not open yet. In fact they haven’t even started building the place. See the post on the previous page “we plan to start building in a couple of weeks”.

Once the arguing and ■■■■■■■■ starts I lose intrest in a thread .
I am up and down this road most friday and saturday nights so when he gets it together and opens up I’ll go in and give it a try .Sounds like it’s in just the right place for me and if I can get a decent hot meal around 22.00 on a Saturday night then I will be a regular.

Well the intention is to run food 24hours but to a point fresh hot food will stop at say 22.00 and only vending machines after that.

We have an entrepenur running the cafe. He has a couple of cafes in Glasgow, one of which my family hsa run for over 100 years so the guy is good at what he does.

The facilities are being built within the massive warehouse that is currently on site so it will be a shell within a shell but the standard of the finish will be very high. It’s not a case of a few mates coming in one weeken to build a few rooms and stick a telly on the wall. A lot of time and money is being carefully spent so that drivers get value for money and facilities to a high standard. An interior designer is doing each room for example…

You don’t get that at south mimms…

Come on, be realistic please… :unamused:

Would say the same as others have mentioned , decent clean toilets/showers , decent food at a fair price, and maybe wi-fi either free or at a nominal charge ?(£1) .
You mentioned your going to use tar mac on site, think this is a bad mistake any one "screwing " in your yard will trash it very quickly, would maybe conside using “type1” stone etc or idealy concrete the yard which is best but expensive !
Make sure you put plent signs up with directions to it (maybe even post codes for sat nav users) etc
Maybe pop in to the fruit Mkt lot off passing drivers there?
Maybe ask the garage up moodisburn that has the Hgv fuel pump at the back can you put a advert there??
Word off mouth is usualy the best, I wish you luck with this hope you can provide a good and long service to drivers at a fair price, all the best Mick

There are always posts on here about ‘free’ overnight parking facilities across Europe and that we should follow the Europeans when it comes to overnight parking , so why is it then this guy has posted this thread about his plans and you are all telling him to charge £10-£20 ■■?
I personally do not mind paying for parking as long as you can have/use facilities . If the parking charge is only for a truck sized piece of tarmac I would rather go and park on an Ind Est for free !

Dafman:
think of your house and thats how clean we want it

Well, I don’t know the guy, but I saw a fair share of people’s houses when doing my home deliveries or when I used to be a market researcher and that can be a risky expectation

(No offence to the OP, just joking).

As I already popped in to the thread, for me free wifi is a must. Also a book exchange shelf. Just buy an ikea bookshelf for 19.99 and fill it with some books from charity shop, then every driver who want one has to leave abother one in exchange. I saw it in Polish truckstop and that’s a great idea (and they had there books in several languages, but I don’t think Scotland has such a big amount of foreign drivers…) Food facilities do not need to be open 24/7, but a vending machines for hot drinks and sandwiches (not sweets, or not only!) could come handy.

Also: dedicated parking spaces for small vans. I have this problem everywhere I go, I am too big for car parking spaces and I am not really willing to take full lorry parking space, especially if spaces for lorries are limited.

Laundry washer with dryer (might be coin operated) would be also good thing.

And, if you have space, a kitchen for self-catering (again, you can be charged a pound or two for the keys and you have to leave something (ex. lorry keys or some document) which will be returned to you if you cleaned after yourself.

It’s unlikely that I will need that truckstop, as I am based in Glasgow, but this are some things I saw in Europe and think might be a good ideas for you.

And I really like idea of banning everyone caught ■■■■■■■ in the parking yard!

One more idea: can you think about few room for accomodation? Sometimes I travel in non-sleeper van and so do many of other express couriers and if I could have a decent bed for, say, 15-20 quids, I would go for it. It does even need to be linen provided, as most of the drivers carry their sleeping bags with them anyway…

Good luck, and maybe you are not sticked, but I have Polish drivers asking me for some place to stop in Glasgow quite often and I am glad that I will soon have a place worth recomendation

Btw: is that truckstop in Paisley still operating? I had a Polish guy asking me last week and I wasn’t able to answer…

Paisley is still running, however it never was much of a truck park. More a patch of land with potholes the size of a truck and no facilities.

Believe it or not, the interest is so great im having to open the place up today even though there are no facilities ready. The first trucks are arriving in a couple of hours from down south.

Here we go!

Good Luck with this Truckstop!!! I might be able to use it at some point, but usually when up in Scotland head south to Lockerbie! On the way to Carlisle :sunglasses:

Another suggestion, for the techno / Satnav geeks, would be to create a POI location for them to download.
Posting the Long/Lat would also help the Satnav geeks especially as the Satnav maps won`t be updated enough atm to account for the new road. But a POI or the Long/lat would accurately pinpoint the site location

£10 to £11 is fine with the shower included but if ur just popping in £1 for that.some good old home cooked food like.
bangers and mash with onion gravy/ british sausages not ur scottish type sorry to be picky
fish chips
cottage pie
chicken fillet/steak fillet chips/or spuds and veg as a option.
selection of pies with chips or mash spuds and veg.
maybe the option of rice aswell to go with a curry

just good old english food mainly nothing fancy and a selections of pudding aswell.all at resonable prices.
i park tip and load in scotland and it would be good to have some where to park up after the closesure of lesmahagow with tescos buying the place.

Surely asking “how much are you willing to pay to park” isn’t the best business model.
Having shelled out £100k+ I’d have done the maths on profit margins, costings &investment repayment etc, before the purchase of the site was finalised.

Ofcourse we have done the math. How else could we have financed the project?

It’s all very well and good surveying the market and doing projects etc but it’s still nice to know what drivers want, hence why the place is being built for drivers.

Why don’t you bring your own ■■■■■■■ sausages you ignoramus!

A wee history lesson just for you. English = the bit sandwiched between Scotland and Wales, British refers to Scotland, England, Wales and N. Ireland. English and British are not interchangeable terms moron.

For the catering, unless you already have someone skilled enough in place, get in contact with a local catering school and see of there’s any young cooks willing to take over that aspect of business (as a sub cotractor) renting the cafe from you. Leaving you to concentrate on the rest of the site
