New Stobby question

Daidap,i thought they were keeping the insulation side of Knauf?
All i’ll say,and its my personal opinon is that i prefered it when Edward run it,he seemed to be a bit more thoughtful towards his drivers and treated us a bit more farely, not so much of the “mushroom syndrome”.

I’d love to comment further but at the moment jobs are hard to come by so i’m being very careful what i say even when i’m in other depots as the walls have very big ears!

Greg, A firm from Gloucester called B+H freight. It’s a big job that Knauf contract and the yard is now full of hired trailers which they’ve had to bring in and they don’t come cheap. Just hope they done their sums right.

Jase, I wasn’t there when Edward ran it but i was talking to another driver in Bridgwater who was and he said much the same thing. As for the insulation, i don’t know about St. Helens but we’re definitely out of Cwmbran.

Little wonder they can undercut Eddie…

it nearly went down, under Edward

Stobart’s have changed a lot in the last 3 or 4 years since Tinkler and William took over, for the better i’d say.

They don’t undercut jobs just to get the work any more (since i’d say Eddie left). They give you a reasonable price and if you don’t like it, see you later.

Fair play to them for telling Knauf to ■■■■ off, B&H will probably make a haymes of it anyway and Knauf will come crawling back, then they should charge them more!!!

You can’t really bracket a firm like Stobarts in the same league as B&H. Speaking as someone who has lost out to Stobart’s on work in the past, i’m not bitter, you can’t really fault them, they do a good job and keep the customer happy at a reasonable price. Gone are the days of doing the job for F’all for them, they’re good at what they do and they know it.

They made £24 million last year and will just replace the Knauf work with something else. There’s no point having loads of work if you aren’t making money from it and they knows this, shame some other firms don’t. Utilisation, not volume is the way to make money in haulage.

this is a interesting point, I think that they are good at transport, but expanding into other areas may cause problems.

happening at hanchurch as well, story in the local paper on fri:

the union man down there said in the paper that they would have a tribunal on their hands if it wasnt sorted out.

Anybody any idea why this news has not made the trade press or have I missed it■■?

I bought this too the attention of CM, and Chris Tindall has followed it up… , there will be a piece in this weeks CM but a snippet from the peice…

A Stobart spokeswoman says: “Due to the transition of James Irlam into Eddie Stobart there have been some issues with the payroll system. This affects only a very small percentage of the group’s 5,000 employees. The company is working hard to address these issues and extra resources have been drafted in. Working with employees the group will resolve matters as quickly as possible.”

i had an interveiw with stobart in dublin got the job turned it down the reason being 9.50 an hour for driving an artic&13euro for bank holiday mondays yeah right the mad thing is they want lads like me&my mate who know the irish roads tacho laws etc.
(minimum wage in ireland is 8.50 an hour my sis got paid more in McDs while studying in college)

it was said in a round about way that they dont want any of our comrads from the eastern bloc wonder why? and i know why after working with them.

i just hope that anyone who is offered a job with them turns it down on principle and does not drag our industry futher down the gutter like some operaters from south east Ireland who also undercut everyone else by employing cheap labour from abroad with there 20 euro drivers licence.

I’m proud to respectfully support you 100% & admire your soundly principled suggestion: Ok, so my talk is cheap - but a beer/brew is here for you anytime.

Thanks for the suport keith i just hope like minded drivers in ireland do the same the only ones that will drive for that £££££ is our eastern european coleagues.

and it has been proven that even though there cheaper than the indigenous drivers they end up costing companies more on insurance/ fuel&truck repairs jaysus dont get me started about them the things iv,e seen over the last 5 years.

HIGH FLYER:
this has been talked about before the small hauliers cant compete with stobarts because the have,nt got enough trucks to cover the work we got big contracts like coke nestle tescos all because we can handle the volumes a guy with 10 trucks couldent manage that

Unbeliavably, Coke,Nestles and Tescos where all trading long before Stobarts came to be anything like the company it is now. They also traded long before Stobarts did the bulk of their work.

No “allegedly” needed here…they have [zb] my wages up for the past 12 weeks, infact, from the start of the new tax year■■? Expenses, hours short or wrong rate paid, holiday pay missing etc. They owed me £350 at one point, which has now been rectified, yet before 1st April never had any trouble what-so-ever with wages, always spot on. Yes they do have a lot of wages to sort out, but they do also pay a lot of people a lot of money to sort them out, so I dont think that is an excuse.

there doing the coke work in ireland also some drops into tesco rdc just wondering do they deliver to tesco stores? the reason im asking is that tesco have there own employed drivers here in ireland and with stobby moving in should the lads be worried being pushed to one side with the arrival of eddie?

yes!

tasty if what your saying is through then the lads working for tesco here are [zb] there on about 40000euro per annum for 4x12hr days i cant see them working for just above the min wage that auld eddie would be offering i know a driver working here for them he is not going be to pleased.

another question guys is there a union in stobarts

( language edit ) jd

i can see stobarts running all the transport for tescos in the future take Magor for example and midle ditch!
