One of our drivers has just been done by VOSA for ‘insecure stowage’ of his lashing chains when they’re not in use.
They were on the bed in the middle as per normal.
They called into our yard Friday, had a wander around, looked at several trucks (mine included), and decided to do this only to his.
Why just him? I carry 4 leg lifting chains too on the bed (‘Dual purpose’ - Cheese Wedge/Hi-ab truck mine).
We all do the same when they’re not used -going to the next job etc, we just lay them in the middle of
the bed, and we’ve NEVER had any slide anywhere.
He had to bunch them up and then put a ratchet strap over them.
What’s to say they could ‘unwind’ from underneath it…
How can they “do him” when the lorry was in a private yard and not on the road??
- Edit* you beat me to it 3 wheels lol

Just what I was wondering.

I’ve heard a lot of cobblers over the years but this really does beat them all.
Yes, it’s like nicking you for having your cab tilted over in the yard because it would be illegal to drive down the road with it tilted over.

And me.
Although I’ve heard of low loader drivers getting done for mud on the trailer bed.
technically its an unsecured load, i should think an advisory rather than a nick, although they are clamping down on it.

Whether it is unsecured or not, tis eff all to do with VOSA whilst it is stationary IN THE YARD!!
Ive heard bad things about VOSA before but that is ridiculous.
This is a MMTM that is up there with cones/tesco/chalk.
Should have told them to ■■■■ off.
If there’s not much going on at work I’ll leave at 2.30 when my 8 hours are up, sometimes a late call will come in for a machine to be dropped in the morning. The other driver or someone in the yard will load it ready for the morning for me, same as I do for him. However I never secure his loads and wouldn’t want him to do mine either, we are responsible for the load security. I’d not want to lose a mini digger through it not being secured right, certainly wouldn’t fancy one of our 14 /22 tonners going slideways.
So our yard will often have unsecured plant loads on, VOSA can visit if they want to be told where to go.

Trouble is some of the officious ■■■■■ that are about probably think that they are 100% right in this.
Not bad, not as good as not being able to take your break or be on P.O.A in the drivers seat, or not being able to have more than 2 nights out in a cab you can’t stand up in or the one where for every turn of the handle on the trailer legs it takes to fully retract them the bigger the fine.
Or a recent classic from my area, V.O.S.A can plug a lap top into your truck and tell if you left the yard with the defective light they have just pulled you for.
Or the more likely scenario is said mate being the victim of a con trick at the hands of a couple of gentlemen of Romany appearance posing as V.O.S.A men, but he doesn’t want to admit to it.
When I was having a new fence erected the fencing guy parked his landrover and trailor on my drive , when i went out to take him a drink this bod in his hi-vis was walking up my drive a VOSA vehicle was parked arross the enrtance , I just said what you want mate he said is this your jeep and trailor I said no its the fencing guys " Why " ? I need to check it over here is my ID I just said not on my private property mate so P155 0FF he just looked at me and said have you got a problem ? I just said no but you will have if you are not off my property in 10 seconds as you are trespassing because I have not invited you to come here goodbye , I just turned and walked away leaving him pondering and he then got back into his black and yellow vehicle and we never saw him again. ■■■■■■ !!!

Obviously lads you’ve heard about Bluetooth technology? VOSA just need to come beside you on the motorway and download everything from yourtruck?
Well it does work in Germany, got a severe backscuttling by the polizei 80 clicks, with me side lights on coming down the A2 at gelsenkirchen legging it for venlo to fill up! Like Thelma and Louise! The wife and I!
it’s rich coming from me.
but.
this thread is total BS. show the proof.
Tyre fitter takes of the tyres in the yard to recut and vosa comes in and fines you for having no wheels on the wagon
I would hazard a guess they had already seen the vehicle out on the road with the unsecure chains - traced the operator and turned up at the yard.
They then looked for that specific vehicle as they had already seen it commit the offence.
I’ve just heard one on friday, a driver got a £30 fixed fine off vosa for one loose tautliner buckle… now if thats true they really are taking the p155
