NO, it was on a notice board in a transport company office on their own headed paper
Or a recent classic from my area, V.O.S.A can plug a lap top into your truck and tell if you left the yard with the defective light they have just pulled you for.
.
In theory they could. Faulty light, if orange light on dash it gets logged as error code on ecu??, don’t know if they are date/time stamped. Same as vosa can tell if magnet been used downloading the ecu error codes.

more office ■■■■■■■■ then, it will work better than a memo going up asking drivers to tighten the curtains straps.

I would hazard a guess they had already seen the vehicle out on the road with the unsecure chains - traced the operator and turned up at the yard. They then looked for that specific vehicle as they had already seen it commit the offence.
More than likely the case. I think theres more to it than the OP.
What happens if i load a porta cabin on my truck in the yard, i then take my 45 or go for a ■■■■ before lashing it down and SCAMOSSA turn up??
I get a fine too??
BS.

They can tell there has been a fault - not how that fault was caused - unless your stupid enough to show them how it was caused .
I believe that VOSA are allowed to enter yards and check any vehicles they find there, and fine the owners/operators for defects. I worked for a company who was told by VOSA they are coming at a certain time to inspect certain vehicles and they are not allowed out until the inspection is complete.
All vehicles have to be in a roadworthy condition, unless they have been sorned, so private or not, VOSA are allowed to enter any premises invited or not, thats my belief, correct me if you will.
As an added bonus, does an operator have to ask permission from VOSA to use a yard as an operating centre…the answer is yes, so to refuse an entry to VOSA, could jeopardise, the use of said property…just a thought.

Total rubbish. They have to be roadworthy when on the road and would only have to have SORN declared if they aren’t taxed. A taxed vehicle sitting in a yard with a defect and VOSA could do nothing. It could be waiting for parts to arrive to repair the defect.
i know of a company whose ops centre was visited unannouced by Vosa on a sat aft who carried out a inspection of vehicles whilst no company employees were on site and issued a number of immediate prohibitions ( these were attached in self adhesive plasic wallets)to both a number of vehs and trls. First thing operator knew was when earliest driver mon morn phoned in from yard I WAS THE DRIVER. All prohibited had to have full retests to remove prohihib

wrong again.
the local traffic area office deals with that, as well as the local council.

that is trespass. they would have needed a warrant, or permission to enter.
so there will be a bit more to the story.

They were on the bed in the middle as per normal.

phil, the yard in question was an old mill premises which had been split into 30 plus units, there were 3 hauliers based there sharing the yard area and other businesses inside the old mill, there was 24 hr security on the gatehouse and after showing security their ID etc they were allowed access. all 3 hauliers were inspected and all 3 received immediate prohibitions. all had to have full retests to remove prohibs, may seem strange but neverless its true. was in the older days when VOSA were ministry of transport
Is the ■■■■■■ still with Vosa? Used to be a crossdressing inspector that had the undercarriage removed and a letter sent to operators that he must now be called she. Was known around Oxfordshire.

Immediate prohibition for missing and non work parts
how could vosa stick pg9 s on window without seeing defect books to see if them faults had been sent to fitters or did they have chalk round the wheels

thats the way i read it, i,m almost certain that John Dickinsons from Darlington is going to court with VOSA to fight over this as one of his trucks got nabbed at switch island and they did him for the chains just being in his tray on the catwalk of his unit and not secured
After reading the replies here.
Sounds like there IS more to it, and maybe was too embarrassed to say what it was? (Said driver decided to have a half day straight away…)
vosa must be a lot more easy going in the south west our plant trucks allways carry their chains & tensioners on the bed even when they go for test !

Vehicles have to be in a roadworthy condition if specified on your operators licence. A vehicle that is still on your licence but you’re not using still has to have its safety inspections, as do trailers.
