well after nearly 3 hrs of interview an assesment i been offered at start at maritime on the boxes starting monday looking forward to it
anyway if anyone living in and around oldham area there might be a job going in a week or so james nuttalls roachdale
The phrase, âfrying pan and fireâ rings here.
Ken.
Good luck mate
so, from the last part of your post, you would be working out of the Manchester depot then?
congratulations on the new job, few pointers for you now
donât scratch the truck, you will be sacked
donât upset the management, you will be sacked
donât park in laybyâs with a loaded container, you will be sacked
you see a pattern here?
just keep quiet and do what you are asked and they will pretty much leave you alone
watch out for the area manager, Paul Heyhoe (i think that is how you spell his surname), he is the biggest five knuckle shuffler on the planet, he will get you to do jobs for him to get him out of the â â â , then when it goes â â â â up, he will drop you in it from a very great height, i know this for a fact as the five knuckle shuffler did it to me, hence my planner in Southampton refusing to send me there for quite a while after it as the fat arrogant â â â â â â â â would have got slapped
and if you go to the Leeds depot, watch out for his brother Darren, same rules apply as listed above

My mate has the relevant experience of the aforementioned.
Needless to say, they no longer work together as employer and employee.
Maritime have the revolving door policy as far as employees is concerned.
You have been warned.
Ken.
Well done mate. Donât listen to any bad vibes, this firm is a pretty good screw, especially up north. Although spanky is right about the [zb] bros. Keep your nose clean and you will earn well. All they ask is the jobs done properly. Not a number for cowboys if you get my drift. Iâve been here over a year and Iâm on contract to hapag lloyd, and the only fault I can find is youâre not allowed to personalise the motor, so it canât be too bad lol. Any help you need drop me a pm.
i wasnât saying it was a bad job, i was merely giving the OP some tips, they take a very dim view of damaging the vehicle in any way shape or form
what you will also find is, the planners/staff at your depot will be better to deal with than at other depots
if you go to other depots and ask for simple things like bolt seals, they look at tyou as if you are something that they have just trodden in
e.g., i went in to Thamesport depot once and asked the for some bolt seals as i had ran out of them, i was promptly told that they didnât have any, 10 minutes later, one of their own depot drivers came in with the same request, the only difference was, he was told, âyeah, how many do you want, weâve got â â â â â â thousands of themâ
Theyâre fine, as long as you donât want to go home on a Friday night, as itâs very likely youâll get sent to Southampton or Felixstowe, as they donât recognise the fact you have a home life.
One guy at Leeds refused, and was sacked on the spot. That is fact, not fiction.
Ken.
I didnât mean you Rob, sorry if it seemed I did, it was more aimed at the usual bashers. And they do that bolt seal trick to everyone at the grain. I had to get my operator to call them to give me a seal for a job
Well done Clifton.
As others have said, jobâs good, wages are good (for boxes), and they donât take any â â â â .
They want YES men, thereâs no doubt about that, I was there 7mths, was cab hopping Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Brum and even got asked once if Iâd run out of Grain for a week NO!!
Some of this cab hopping was same week, monday Manchester, tuesday liverpool, wed leeds, thu manchester, fri + sat morning leeds.
I was a Manchester driver, but then got offered a permanent truck in Leeds, I took this as I didnât like cab hopping and Iâd lost a load of stuff like tv ariel, lump hammer, ppe gear etc because people donât empty their trucks all the time, so you miss stuff when clearing out.
After 7mths, I got asked if Iâd work Sunday, this was 7pm on Friday, I said no because I had plans, it was then made clear that I really should do itâŠ
Following Friday, my truck was going âoff fleetâ and was cleaning it out, I was asked into office at end of shift - over 13hrs - asked if I wanted representation - if you ever hear this, say YES!
I was asked about my time sheets not tallying with my tacho records, going back 7mths, mostly 15 mins after Iâd got out of the truck (I used to take tacho out, lock truck up, then go to office with paperwork etc so I didnât have to return to truck), but some other longer ones like an hour 1 morning where Iâd got âring us at 6am⊠ring Ring us back at 7am⊠ring ring us back in 1/2 hr - ok, but Iâm putting my tacho in now ok??â Clearly idea was to help them out in flexibility, but was a pretty short day (12 ish hours) so I put 6am as start time, but it wasnât on tacho. Other time was âYouâre with us Monday (Manchester Happag)â, turn up at Manchester Monday, âNo, youâre in Leedsâ, drive to Leeds, get truck, tacho in, run round truck and on way to job which is now going to be damned tight - timesheet says started at 7am, tacho says 8.05 or whatever, never did manual entry due to trying to sort everything out quick and get going.
Anyway, this is what I got sacked for, but it was made clear to me that I shouldâve done the Sunday
Trucks are good, most are top of the range, with microwaves and fridges, nice machines to be in. Most parking is on account (no mealâs) meaning you donât have to carry bags of cash to be away all week, lots of depots around the country, some good, some â â â â â (try a shower at Grain or Liverpool lol).
BUT, you might get back at 6pm on a Thursday night and get âGive him your keys, need to use more fuel / put more miles on your truck so itâs going on a night shiftâ - but this would normally be towards end of fleet time.
Donât think my wages were ever wrong, and they were pretty good.
Oh, one more thing, start of Jan, told I had to take 2 days off next week as holidays, work was quiet⊠Great⊠So I buggered off on hols - make most of it - came back Sunday night to be told Iâd be on a night shift Monday This was when I was cab hopping though.

they do it at all depots to non depot drivers/subbies, not just grain
