Okay think I got it. So the weekly rest period needed of 45 hours is that from the shift time or driving time?

Neither

Weekly rest period rules are different

A weekly rest is needed for every fixed week (known as week) and to be used for that week it must be at least 1 minute in that week
The max hours allowed between weekly rests is 144 hours (6 x 24 hours = 144 hours)

Not at all

Take one rule at a time and understand how that works without thinking about any of the others then go onto the next rule

Thanks. I understand how much I can drive and how long a shift I can do. It’s just the weekly rest I don’t understand now.

All I’ve read is that I need to have a 45 hour weekly rest or in 2 consecutive weeks then it’s 45 hours then 24 hours. This 45 hour weekly rest does that include the time I’m not working in between shifts? My test theory information I received didn’t explain it at all.

Muckaway:
 7am until 5pm Monday to Friday this week. Overtime tomorrow for a couple of hours washing the lorry. :grimacing:

Would that be the “Saturday wash rota” then? Thought you weren’t doing that?

Do keep up good sir. No longer on the flour, back on tippers for a small family firm. Getting paid for helping with maintenance so once my two wagons (yes, two I drive the 6 or the 8 wheeler) are washed (I’ve already got the interiors gleaming, the joys of working for a laid back boss :sunglasses: ) and once the wagons are washed I’ll grease the JCB and then home.
“Don’t rush” is in the job description on this firm.

Any driver in this industry getting paid per day or set weekly/monthly salary needs to have his head checked.

I just checked mine, lasted a couple of weeks at a west hull supermarket chain, salary @25k for class 2…great if your doing 8 hr days but when they run to 12-15 hrs the red mist descends, strange thing is all the “old” drivers are still on hourly rate and wont let the company buy their old contracts off them.

You have
Daily rests, 11 hours a day which can be reduced to 9 hours 3 times a week.
These are between working days.

Then you have
Weekly rests. These are 45 hours which can be reduced to 24 hours.
Any reduction has to be paid back by the same number of hours added onto a daily rest or a weekly rest, within 3 weeks of the reduction. You must have a 45hr weekly rest the week before and the week after.
Weekly rests are between working weeks.

Mate. The easy way for weekly rest is. One week you must have a 45 hr rest between finishing say on a friday and starting again monday. So if you finish at 9pm friday your 45 hours would finish at 6pm sunday. Then the next week you can reduce that break to 24 hrs. So you can wprk monday to saturday. So if you finished at say 5pm on saturday you cant work again for 24 hrs. So every other week you must have a 45 hr rest period.

My sincerest apologies. I didn’t realise you had moved on again. Your CV must be longer than a proper lorry now.

Yes it is. It’s printed on an Andrex bog roll. “Please take one…”

Love reading threads like these before i delve into the transport industry!!!

You don’t have to work these hours. You can work on multidrop and handball for 8 to 10 hours a day and earn more than a tramper. It’s very hard work and gets slagged off by other drivers on here but at least you’ll get a life beyond work. Or you can sit on your arse for 15 hours a day and not see friends or family for days on end. It’s all a matter of choice, there is variety in the industry.

^^ Nail on the head.

Not sure ‘earn more than a tramper’ but certainly similar money
