New here :), Starting my C training...advice please

greetings all,
Currently trawing through all the advice on this site and various companies around the esssex (chelmsford) area, flair training would be nice as there based in chelmsford which is only 25 mins up the road howevere the guy who owns the companuies gone bankrupt twice!!!
currently looking at rsm training in basildon, can anybody reccommend this one,or not reccomend it? I still need to phone them on monday and ask about
assesment drive
cpc
theory test
cpc and theory test material and fee’s
if they use there own vehicles
retest training if I dont pass the first time.

have i missed anything??

another thing i need some help with is medicals? can i just ring the doctors place up the road in danbury and get them to do one, or am i better off using driversmedicals.com, if so how long does it take, what sort of waiting lists are there?
Thanks to all in advance

Ste

I have never heard of that company so can’t comment but I have just done my class 2 and cpc with roadtrain in Thurrock and cannot speak highly enough of them they have been great. they are cheap as well they are paying the vat at the mo so it only comes to £960 and that’s with theory tests as well. as for medicals - driversmedicals.com/

I went to their Grays office But think they have got one in Chelmsford. any other questions feel free to ask

CHEAP MEDICALS

As far as im aware…as long as the doctor can read and understand the forms your good to go. Might be worthwhile hanging about down the local pub and befriend a doc and save a few quid   :grimacing:

A little reading for the INITIAL CPC can be found HERE

Good afternoon Stehinch. Looking for the right training provider is essential in getting the result you want so make sure you do your homework. What I would say is if something sounds too good to be true it noramlly is. The previous post re: Rog’s training tips should point you in the right direction. Alternatively you could type my user name into any search engine and you will come up with another useful website that finds DSA approved instructors close to you. Price should be an issue but not always the most important factor. Bear in mind we have Driver CPC with us so if you dont already have C1 or will not be driving professionally then you will need that too. Please dont part with your hard earned money over the phone. Get out and see (if you can) who you will be investing your money and time with. Any good training company would welcome a visit. Good luck

Hiyyaaa Stehinch & welcome

Thanks all, as would be expected ive gone through rog’s huge index post, some of it uisn’t loads of use to me right nowbut im pretty certain that as soon as i start training it’l be a godsend.
hgvlgvtraining, thanks for the reply, yes i do need the full CPC unfortunatly which is another pain (im more worried about the theory side of things then the practical) however I found RCM training via your site. i’m planning to ring them first thing on monday as they were closed today, or would you reccomend just turning up on the doorstep and asking questions from my list.

Personally I would recommend giving them a call 1st thing on Monday. They are a good lot and I am sure they would welcome your visit. Driver CPC is no big thing really. It basically means having to pass a few extra tests. A good training school should be able to offer everything, i.e. from medical right through to module 4. As mentioned before price is always an issue but should not be paramount. Good experienced trainers and well maintained vehicles should come 1st. You did the right thing anyway and asked the good people here for advice. Rog’s training companies and the ones you found on hgvlgvtraining will give you the best start. You have no doubt seen the comments and posts about Flair Training!!!

Once again good luck

Oh and by the way. The theory (module 2 case study) is not too bad. I have a heard that a lot of guys have read the official DSA multiple choice theory test book and used some common sense and passed. If you look online you can even get some sample questions to get an idea of the type and level of questions you will be asked.

p.s. re: Driver CPC. You can complete all the modules in a number of ways

e.g modules 1 and 3, then 2 and 4 or 1,2,3 and 4 or (please correct me if wrong) modules 2,1,4 and 3.

If you think about it module 3 (practical driving test) is the one that will cost you most time and money, so perhaps completeing modules 1,3 then 2 and 4 would be the best option.

just to be a smart arse I’m gona add the order I done mine in: 1,2,4,3 :grimacing:

My name is John Dawson the owner of Flair Training in Chelmsford.

I can understand your apprehension but there are many sides and angles to a story.

This is the deal.

You only only pay after you pass the LGV test. No catches No hidden words. All medical and theory fees and test fees are paid by us until you pass.

I ask only 1 thing. When you pass you come back to this board and tell about your experiences. I will be your trainer until you pass.

NO PASS NO PAY. That is the deal.

My advice is look at all options available. This is definately a 1 shot offer.

To all board admins…this is not an advert, this is a proper reply.

John

I have made my personal contact numbers available on this site on several occasions.

Don’t try to become the new ROG bacause there is currently a vacancy for the most knowlegeable on this board.

I respect you and what you are trying to do. Please reciprecate.

I’m sure someone off of here confirmed that the shop does actually exist the other week didn’t they? sure I remember reading that somewhere

Thanks for the help all,
John, no offense was intended at all so apologies if i upset anyone, luckily my dads paying for a lot of this (well giving me a loan basically) so its also partly upto him where he spends his money. the plan at the moment is to get my theory and CPC mod 1 out the way myself, then im going to RSM for there dual C -C+E course.
Can anyone give me a breakdown of the costs for my theory, hazard and CPC mod 1 as my google fu seems to have completly failed at the moment. As far as Im aware I can revise for them then book them one after the other on the same day as soon as I think i’m ready. So…

Theory, Hazard and CPC MOD2.
class C training and test

  • send off licenses (twiddle thumbs) get license back with provisional C+E
    C=E training and test
    CPC mod4
Pass everything, find an employer and get on the road.

Does that seem like a good order? anything missed?

No offence taken at all, as just trying to offer some reassurance.

I know the guys at RSM quite well and they are a pretty good bunch. Normally see them at the test centre in Chelmsford and I would say their pass rate is pretty good.

probably not a bad idea to have a trial drive before booking but that is your decision.

I am glad you think the picture has been “photoshopped”. It is a compliment to the window printing company we used.

Of course the picture has not been altered to make it look better. Please either you or somebody else drive past the shop in Parkway, Chelmsford. It is the main road into town from the Army and Navy roundabout.

Why would you think differently when the address is made public ? it is fairly unusual however for an LGV training company to operate from a prominent shop position.

Please feel welcome to visit us anytime Tues-Sat 10am to 4pm and you will get a very warm and friendly welcome

I can confirm that the training John gives is good quality, I did my Licences with John at Qualitas (before Sterling got mixed up with them and ruined everything)

I don’t know if you remember the cornish lad who flew up and got your first “clean sheet” on the C licence John?

Hello Semtex

Of course I remember you. Since I originally started LGV training back in 1983 you are the only Zero faults test report sheet I have ever seen to this day.

Hope things are working out for you. Did you ever get the Class 1 licence?

Do I remember correctly that you handed your licence to the examiner to send off, forgetting you would need it at the airport for the return flight ?

Anyway good luck

Failed first time but passed second time
