Have you never seen the cruise ships? In fact have you ever been over the Forth?
Also a couple of aircraft carriers that need to squeeze under.
Ho ho ho, currently doing it 10 times a week, they must wait until Iām finished. Do we even have any aircraft carriers anymore? Cruise ships! Down the Forth! Thatās got to be a joke right?
currently? Does that mean you have just discovered the Forth Road Bridge and have never been over it before. I havenāt been that way for a while but I used to do a lot in that area and saw an awful lot of big ships. Maybe they camouflage them now so you donāt see them. Or perhaps they hide. The blighters.
Been over it plenty over the years but last year stared going over it every night, back & forth you might say Iāve never spotted a ship of any size around the bridge. Now admittedly I tend to keep my eyes on the road when crossing but you would have thought Iād have noticed some of the, alleged, huge liners trolling up & down the place.

She needs to get under it unless we just sail it up and down the Forth between the Kincardine bridge and the new Forth bridge.

Might as well, we canāt afford to send it much further anyway. Whatās the name of that carrier & how old is it?
It was maybe an optical illusion type thingy, but I remember taking my young daughter up on the top deck of the Rosyth-Zeeby ferry, to let her see under the Forth Bridge, and it did look a bit low, but I had been in the bar before we shipped out

thats the queen elizabeth and its about a year old billy.
Just been reading about it, thereās another due next year, the Prince Charles. Whoād have thought we would have two aircraft carriers these days. Iām going to have to start looking for these ships, they really are too big to miss. It also ends my idea of a low bridge, oh well, back to the 40 mile detours I suppose. Humble pie for tea, again.
BillyHunt:
Well fancy that! The large cruise ship, according to its own blurb, was east of the bridge therefore not going under it. I was under the impression that the naval base has been submarines only for years. Why couldnāt they have a low bridge, like Kincardine, that raises in the middle, or swings open? Got to be cheaper.
Oh dear, this makes the Forth bridge look small!!! Iāve been over it a million times, mostly at night, but I canāt say Iāve ever seen much bigger than a tug boat type thing going about⦠Imagine going over the bridge and that thing comes up
Fair play to you Billy, you recognised the hole and stopped digging! A lot of folk in that position wouldnāt and wouldāve got increasingly abusive as they continued. Btw, I think your idea of low bridges holds plenty of merit, just not in the location under discussion.

The Jocksā Celtic soul brothers have a very cheap alternative: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Transporter_Bridge. Little chance of clashing with any vessels and can cope with traffic volumes up to dozens an hour, at very best. Interesting trip in the wind too.
As for that warship, that is a ship and a half, or it quite literally looks like it to me. 2 islands? Whatever next?
The aircraft carriers were built in sections on the Clyde (West Coast) thenfloated round the North of Scotland to be bolted together at Rosyth on the East Coast.

Some would have launched into essay length arguments, including copy and paste sections of websites such as Wikipedia, which they they will think is the total truth!

I must admit I was waiting for it to kick off, must have been on trucknet to long and got used to its normal routine. great to see a bit of maturity for a change, Billy I salute you.
Steady on chaps, Iām filling up here. When youāre wrong as much as I am it gets easier. Iāve never had an interest in anything nautical & Iām being honest when I say Iāve never seen any big ships around the bridge, then again Iāve never seen any when going over dartford or the tyne either. Luckily Iām off to specsavers in the morning so you never know.
id think the reason they would not tunnel would be down to hard bedrock
knew a lad who died on the bridge ,was back in about 1980 we were both 17 , he was on his motorbike when wind blew him under a truck. that new bridge looks same, bad in wind . youd think theyd have proper wind deflectors in this day and age
Update: eye test revealed a slight deterioration, pick new gegs next tuesday. Shipwatch last night northbound 1900- bugger all, southbound 2030- bugger all. Roadworks on southbound, again.
Having read a little about the new bridge they say they will be adopting modern techniques to reduce the effects of wind, whatever that means.
