Ok, I’ve only been on this forum for about a week now and can already pick out people and their different ‘quirks’.
You have a minority that have been in the business for a very long time.
The ones that have been for a few years.
The ‘newbies’, if its politically correct to call them that.
The reason I have put these people in to these categories is because of some of the complete pompous, know-it-all [zb] on here. Everyone, no matter how long you’ve been driving will need guidance of some description. Some of the arrogance and to put it bluntly, ‘bullying’ that goes on is disgusting. Why can’t all drivers help each other out? There’s no wonder that new people aren’t coming in to the industry.
The drivers that have been driving for a long time seem to find it amusing to gang up on and mock the newer drivers that are to be the future of the industry. How about a bit of ‘constructive’ criticism rather than trying to make them look like a [zb]. New drivers a more afraid of VOSA than the police, you can’t blame for asking a question that may seem trivial to you or I. Just have a bit of empathy and think about what you’re saying before you open your mouth and belittle them.
To end that, I would never ask a question about anything on here after what I’ve seen for the past few weeks.
I completely agree with what you say, but we all know that some people are not so clued up when it comes to searching for answers. As for the DCPC comment, whilst I agree with you, not everything sinks in (especially if you do all 35 hours in one week). There are a lot of extremely helpful drivers on here, I’ve seen it. There are also some that probably should reevaluate their lives and attitudes. The ever changing industry is hard enough for some people to get their heads around without being mocked and made to look like an idiot!
Bit of a generalisation don’t you think to suggest that the old hands are the the bad boys? or do you have access to the age demographic and driving history of posters.

It wasn’t a generalisation. I am merely saying that the ones that seem to mock have been driving for a long time. There are some extremely knowledgable drivers on here! The new drivers aren’t the ones takin the p*** out of other new drivers, are they?
its only differing opinions. take the recent thread regarding refusing to drive a truck.half the drivers say yes,the other half say no.at the end of the day only the op was there so ultimately its his call.
however hes now read alot of different drivers views and this may or may not make him think differently. ive certainly learned alot since iv`e joined this site…sometimes by asking questions, sometimes by just looking in on other threads.
i take it, you have posted this after reading the latest thread about refusing to take a truck out on the road?
let’s face it, the OP hasn’t done himself any favours by changing his opening post
from what has been said on that particular thread, he refused to drive a perfectly road legal vehicle because it was a bit smelly as the previous driver(s) had smoked in it
i do try and help and advise new drivers, but, when some come on here and start spouting ■■■■■■■■ about various things, then i just think, what is the point?
i have had various new drivers (quite a few forum members) coming out for experience drives with either myself or one of my drivers, for which they have benefited greatly by learning the difference between empty learner vehicle and fully loaded vehicle, and also the difference between reversing between some cones in a yard and on to a proper loading bay
i will gladly offer advice, as can be seen in the newbies forum, but, if that member then comes back being arrogant or sarcastic, then they can shove it
it is not always the older, more experienced drivers that seem to have the arrogant attitude, there are plenty of new drivers with it too
I’m merely stating what I’ve seen and read. I’m not here to pass judgment on anyone in particular. Its just something I think SOME people need to think about.
I’ve been driving a few years, but i’m not sure, or even care if that qualifies me to be a member of the old guard, and one of the things I’ve learned is that truck driving really requires that you grow a fairly thick skin! And I don’t mean to be impertinent, but it seems to me you’ve got some way to go.
Forget about who’s ganging up on who, and who’s being nasty to who, or believe me, you’ll have a heart attack in no time at all.
Any forum, including this one is no different to most transport yards I’ve been in. And truck drivers like nothing better than to whinge, whine, complain and spread rumours about other people. But at the same time I’ve met people in this game who I would trust with my life.
Now, do you have a question I might be able to help you with?

People can say to me personally what they like, I couldn’t care less. I have extremely thick skin. I’ve only been in the industry for 6 years myself and learnt very quickly to not take anything to heart. But not everyone is the same. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I’m a new member (and a learner to boot) but the bullying or whatever you want to call it doesn’t seem any worse here than pretty much every other forum I’ve seen, mind you I’m pretty thick skinned. It’s just the Internet, there are trolls, bullies, idiots, Walt’s and so on everywhere. There also plenty of normal, pleasant helpful people here who you would probably quite happily have a cup of tea with in real life. On the Internet, as with real life, there are people you get on with and people you don’t. It’s no big deal. personally I’m grateful for what I’ve learned here so far, and for having somewhere to ask questions
He was talking about me ! I am a pompous old git, and a know it all ZB, and i dont need any guidance for any part of this industry, i have earned the right to be called the above, plus a professional after fifty yrs of being on the road. However, i will give advice, and guidance to anyone who needs it, whether in transport, or any other instances to which i am familiar. Please feel free to stick that in your pipe, and smoke it, but not in your cab.
I’ve not been on any other forums so couldn’t comment. I only came in here to confirm whether or not this is still the industry I want to be in. Nothing more, nothing less. If I learn something on the way, all the better. Also if I get on with people that’s a bonus too. Although I have a feeling my post will do the opposite.
