Oh it was a few years ago when I wrote to commissioner Aitken.
The reason was to ask what she meant when said drivers needed to be more diligent in their vehicle checks.
The question was how diligent.
Is it visual or hands on.
Anyway she revoked a companies operating licence for 7days.
Drivers should have been diligent.
I spoke with manager at a company today that manufacture wheel nuts that don’t loosen.
Its a new design and the wheels will never come off again.
In short they cost 120.00 per axle.
Is that a cost that would break the bank.
Ross v stobart:

how do you change tyres then??
The wheels are removed by using a Tool to remove.
I asked a straight forward question ,YOU made the post about a new design of NUTS ,so what sort of TOOL is it ,as someone that still changes tyres i am interested!
but 6gbp a NUT?
The information was found on transport engineer.
The device is made by a company called wheel safe.
They’re sending me some details.
There’s another company,no name they have,a,device that informs the driver they’re loose or detaching.
I’m not to sure ,
They’re called wheels safe.
They must both have their attributes.
Should be fitted as standard.
Check your nuts.
Sorry
Wheely safe ,Tamworth.
whynot just use castellated nuts and r clips?
they’re similar to the locking ones you can get for your car alloys to stop em getting nicked and the tool is like an allen key that is welded inside a wrench socket that you just use as per normal…hope this helps
just means that you gotta make sure you got it on you all the time and god help you if it snaps off through abuse…

seems a post or so missing and edited.
Details are,
The original bolt with washer and original nut.
On top of this is a spring clip and on top if this is the locking stud.
The stud is shaped the same as the lower nut.
So can be taken of with the regular fitters equipment.
On top of the bolt assembly is fitted a locking cap.
If your interested contact wheelsure, part of ws group.
Fitted new,or retro fitted.
They should be fitted as standard.
Works out 5.00 a bolt.
But you can do a deal.
Thinking into the future
profit through safety.
There are no Allen keys involved.
Its the same fitting as normal bolts.
you can get a tri axle trailer and unit for around 700 to 750,
I bet they might throw in the lift axle for three if you have,a few vehicles.
safe-wheels.com/en/Nord-Lock-Wheel-Nut.aspx i.v got them fitted on my truck, no special tools too put em on or take em off, never had a wheel loss yet
We just use the twin nut spring clips. Seconds to fit and easy to spot if they have been tampered/damaged.
Great product for lazy drivers who don’t check vehicles daily. Bit expensive tho,i won’t be purchasing.
There good but you would still need to check them.
They might cause complacency.
Are they really fail safe.
That’s a pretty strong claim.
I do my daily checks and haven’t lost a wheel yet. There has only been one occasion where I have found loose wheelnuts and on that occasion I hadn’t been in that vehicle for a week and found 3 loose nuts and the triangle markers worn down to let it turn.
Found suitable tightening gear but didn’t have a long enough breaker bar/tightening bar so borrowed the tools as the fitter was out and I couldn’t get him on the two-way at the time. After that I used to carry an extendable bar in the toolkit but haven’t had another version since.
Daily checks are the key words don’t you know

Nothing beats eyes like a ■■■■ house rat when doing your vehicle checks.
When reporting defects to a previous employer,They commented I had eyes like a [zb]house rat.
