I was at a Netto store near me yesterday and I got talking to the deputy manager (I know him) and he told me that Netto will be disapearing very soon ! . I was quite surprised at this revelation ! Apparently ASDA have bought 40 stores and some more may be becoming Argos’… Looks like they’ve had enough…This news is a bit of a bummer for me as Netto have been a good ‘supplier’ for me,in one of my ‘hobbies’. .
So…don’t know how this may affect some of you guys. Just thought that I should put the news out there…
Asda started down the road to buy them back in May but just last week the Office of Fair Trading gave the purchase the green light but ordered them to sell 25% of the Netto stores, 40 odd as far as I remember from the news stories.

asda are actually purchasing the whole lot so netto uk will cease to exist. as said above the only glitch is that the office of fair trading has stated they must sell on 47 of the 193 stores that there currently is. the south elmsall warehouse will remain as yet were not quite sure what we will be doing although the general rumour is it will become a cross docking place etc and our jobs (drivers) are safe infact butts are taking drivers on. the daventry depot will be closed and staff and drivers relocated elsewhere within asda.
asda aim to have smaller stores similar to tesco express etc and all reworking of the stores should be complete by juneish next year…they say all shop staff will be safe and more staff will be recruited…
so currently its all a bit up in the air so to speak…
When Morrisons bought Safeway, Co-op bought Somerfield and Asda buy Netto they have to sell off stores because OFT are concerned about competion. Nothing is said when Tesco have 13 stores of different types in one City. Am I just a cynic?
Most of Netto store have C ■■■■ to deliver the goods, and most is tail lift off, How many Asda trucks do you see with tail lift fitted ? was talking to a Asda driver, he said there is only 2 trailers with tail lift fitted in yorkshire !
Good riddance to the lazy pallet-aligning [zb]s. I hope they close down the [zb]hole at South Elmsall and the entire workforce end up on the dole for the rest of their lives. Be good to see some karma after the way they treat drivers.
Can’t see Asdies wanting any input from ■■■■’s at all. They do all their own transport. I think quite a lot of redundancies could be on the cards at ■■■■’s soon.
I used to drive for Netto years ago when they had the yellow globetrotters, they stitched the bloke up who owned the trucks. They wanted nice big shiny lorries and wouldn’t pay the premium for them, he ended up going to the wall. It’s a shame as it wasn’t that bad a job really. Got 2 nettos in town, been wanting anAsda for ages.

I also have a friend who works at South Elmsall, and he has told me that they are being paid a bonus after being taken over, however, it will be paid annually and not weekly. Works out about £40pw.
At the moment they are safe, but who knows what will happen.

That would be H&H who also had Poundstretcher before Butts. I worked on the PS contract from day 1 with Butts, and we went and got all of the better yellow double decks that H&H had from a yard in Leeds. Then unfortunately Butts went and got a load of Cartwright deckers, and had nothing but trouble with them from day 1. There are some new trailers coming on stream next month at PS, but unfortunately they are being pulled by Mercedes Hacksaws.
