P45 on its way? Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

Edit add: he needs to lose his ADR permanently and account for his actions to the TC.

I’d love to have seen the look on his face when’s the blues lit up [emoji23]
Oh [emoji90] were his first words I’ll wager.

That story made the BBC TV local news this morning along with that same pic, wont be long before someone recognises the tanker even with the name covered.
There are speed camera’s on that stretch of roadworks so he is a plonker anyway!

Whatever he gets he deserves, make an example of him I say
Tailgating, pushing and bullying is bad enough, but in a ■■■■ tanker full of fuel? :open_mouth:
Absolute prick. :unamused:
I remember the days when tanker drivers were a ‘cut above’, and paid accordingly.
Another example of the dumbing down of this ■■■■ job. :unamused:

No wonder fuel drivers have a bad rep these days, especially for the way they drive. Only plus side to this is that it looks like a Hoyer tank and they are usually pretty strict, they probably already had the drivers P45 waiting for him when he got back to the yard

Yeah I remember too because I was one of them. These type of drivers need their licence confiscated for good and fined heavily as well.
It’s a very common occurrence on UK roads and one that is highly dangerous.
I don’t agree it’s an example of dumbing down of the job. There were tailgaters in the 70’s and 80’s although far fewer. For me it’s a mixture of bad attitude and lack of self control.
The point is though it needs to be eradicated sooner than later.

Should lose his licence just for not being bright enough to spot a plain wrapper when he is a few feet from the back of it, should have gone to Specsavers (other opticians are available)

On the flip side, we’re the police deliberately driving at 35 - 40mph in a 50 limit in order to cause this situation. Is it only me that comes up behind lots of car drivers these days, driving well below the limit when the outside lane is out of bounds for HGV’s

No it’s most certainly not just you.

I’m certainly not going to condone HGVs tailgating cars or any other vehicle for that matter but we should remember we only have one side of the story and that’s the police account of the incident.

Do we know how close the tanker was to the car in front ?, do we know what speed the police car was doing ?

The police account of the incident seems to imply the police car was doing the maximum allowed speed and the tanker driver was trying to force the driver to exceed the speed limit, given how untrustworthy many members of the police force are I’d like to see some evidence of what they’re claiming.

A car doing 40 mph is perfectly legal and should not cause any problem.
The problem arises when a brain dead truck driver with no self control decides to try to bully said vehicles.

Here we ■■■■ go again. :unamused:
(Firstly no surprise that you consider yourself one of the ‘‘Cut above the rest’’ in your answer to my last post btw, nothing like blowing your own trumpet…again.)

Nobody is saying a car doing 40, is illegal, but everybody else would consider it a bit stupid bordering on dangerous …and don’t chuck the ‘‘speed limit not target’’ thing at me, I fully understand all that.
Just because it’s legal it does not mean it’s either prudent or safe.
Imo an inept idiot in a car hogging a lane in a contra flow at 40mph, is nearly as bad as the inept idiot in the artic tailgating him. :bulb:

If the police are to pursue a prosecution, they’ll need to record all the evidence, probably have a recording of the lorry with calibrated speed being shown. It would be very dangerous ground to “stretch” the truth simply for some twitter hits and any case against the driver would collapse.

Of course, if the police car was liveried up none of this would have happened. The current agenda seems to be to catch people doing wrong rather than preventing it.

Absolutely right, if we saw more Police cars '‘patrolling’ the Mways, as we used to, bad practices would be vastly reduced, but it’s more lucrative to have cameras, and Police playing truckers in tractor units etc on one of their famous…‘purges’ .

There is no mention of what speed the Police car was doing and regardless of the speed of the vehicle in front there is still no excuse to tailgate.
Maybe the copper decided that the speed they were doing was fast enough in the traffic conditions?
Maybe the truck driver was too thick to figure out when a car is doing an indicated 50mph it probably going slower than when his truck is doing an indicated 50mph?
Maybe they were behind other vehicles travelling at an indicated 50mph, but were leaving a proper gap so they had time to stop, especially with truck up their chuff, but no doubt the driver didn’t like the gap they were leaving, wanted to push them along?

But whatever the reason no need to tailgate, back off, it’s far less stressful and stops you getting fixated with the vehicle in front.

if you look closely, you will see lift axle is raised, so tank would have been empty.

Just another knob who wears a hivis while driving .

Nice to read a reasoned and sensible reply.

No, here you go again. Doing 40 in a 50 is NOT stupid or dangerous and everybody would not agree. What is stupid and dangerous is the inept clown who has no self control, no discipline and a total disregard for others safety.
We are talking about tailgaters but don’t forget we also have the ones that travel too closely as well. There is a difference to keeping a safe gap. It is seen everyday even when it’s wet, foggy or bone dry.

Stop blaming the innocent for these clowns.
