Travelling south on M74 in lane 1 just coming out of glasgow, as I was coming up to jct 3/4 I realised traffic was backed up on the slip into lane 1,
I put the indicator on and the silly cow accelerated as hard as she could to stop me moving over but I eventually got in travelling at about 40 (road is a 50 avg speed zone), she then decides very last second to emergency stop to jump the queue and get onto slip making me have to brake hard fully loaded with chicken and bringing lane 2 to a complete stand still.
I of course gave her a friendly blast with the air horn and she responded with a reversed wave as I passed!!
In this situation can I go in to lane 3? And I know some1 already has a daft thread about lane 3 today but where do I stand in this situation as I was telling the gaffer who says it happens all the time
Pretty sure you’ll be fine using the outside lane to avoid an accident or dangerous situation.
Yes you can use lane 3 to avoid a collision. You can’t use it to overtake standing traffic, but an emergency is justifiable

I was thinking the same just the daft idiot gave me no warning she only indicated once the brakes where fully applied. Was scary don’t think she quite knew how much danger she was in
Drive over her next time that’ll learn her

I’m sure some will say you should have anticipated her maneuver, which reminds me, where’s albion1971 gone?
Assuming I’ve read it right, 2 choices ram car up arse, or move into lane 3.
Answer is obvious .

Don’t feed the bear silly

Now you are avin a larfe, albion1971 a bear? My mental image was more a chipmunk!
Junction 4 is maryville, so if you look at the road markings it will have short broken lines indicating a filter lane. Soon as you pass the start of these lines lane 3 becomes lane 2.
Tbh that whole stretch (uddingston, maryville, raith) at rush hour is like that you really need to be on your toes watching for standing traffic.
I’m pretty sure Albionwanker1971 is on holiday in Australia.

Been the one before that then, I had came on from the m8 was just coming into the avge speed zone. Place is an absolute joke and faith interchange is worse with pond life car drivers cutting you up. Anyway I made it home safe just a fright and next time I’m putting her into lane 3.
had two yesterday who probably did sxxt their pants, blunsdon entry ramp to the A419,load of cars trying to join I am doing 56 mph they indicate to come on,i do the usual check intending to pull out,no chance, cars on the outside so just keep going, most got out and put their foot down with no problem, one car on my inside just kept going, pacing me until he ran out of road where the embankment started, slammed his brakes on and the usual flash of the lights, that afternoon same situation this time a woman, she crawls along at around 45 to 50 mph,i came along at the usual 56mph in the first lane as I went to pass her she accelerated and stayed beside me until again like the other she ran out of entry lane, they will never learn,i had at least 3 cars on my outside and these car drivers on the entry ramp think if they indicate they have the god given right to pull out, dont work with me,if I can pull out to let these cars out I will,if not I keep going, any accident is down to them

common sense says you can. lane one and two stood still or what I would call moving from lane 2 and 1 to then join a slip road I sometimes move over to lane 3 and never been stopped. if I was stopped I would justify it by explaining why and I’m sure a judge would understand not that it would get that far anyway.
