I got to yard today and to put trailer on empty bay. The next bay was out of action and a bloke doing repair so I got lined up opened doors. I jumped back in cab and started to back up when I realised I couldn’t see bloke no more.
I jumped out and went to check. The daft ■■■■ had his back to me and was talking on his phone while inspecting my bay!
Scary how close i was and how easy killing someone is in this job.
bloody hell
Was he wearing his invincibility jacket (hi vis)?
Seriously though, well spotted mate, far too easy not to have spotted him / lack of him, enough other distractions going on all the time.
Allways encountering this stupidity; Builders/private buyers do it when waiting to load and even had a parent holding his child doing the “ooh look at the big digger Johnny”…
Bring in all the rules you like, you’ll never legislate against stupidity.
effin eck, hope you gave him a little talking too, you don’t need that mate do you…

This is so true. That’s the trouble with health and saftey. These people would have been killed or maimed due to stupidity at an early age now they continue putting others at risk much longer.

And worse, reproducing, creating more - in both numbers and quality - stupid morons

Are you suggesting evolution should’ve been helped out and he should’ve been removed from the gene pool? Think of the mess

If you were still pullin’ that Bartrums trailer, don’t think you’d have been able to tell, it was such a ■■■■ heap anyway lol.
I just think everybody should be sterilised at birth and have to prove that they’re ok to reproduce, ie, not a sponger, not a muppet etc.
If I sound a little like Hitler, it’s because I’m due my annual shave, normality will be resumed…

If you going into politic you can count my vote
Blimey, you’d have killed him as well if you hadn’t checked.
He should buy a lottery ticket tonight.
It’s unbelievable the stupidity of some people. A few years ago while working for ASDA one of the drivers was reversing onto the bay at Hartlepool store, it used to have a little kink at the end so it sometimes took a couple of goes to get on. Trying to be helpful one of the store people stuck his head out of the side just as the driver was getting to the bay, and yes he got his head stuck and cracked his skull! Luckily as I said he was from Hartlepool so no real damage done, except to the driver who was in a state.
And hot on the heels of that last effort. I get to work last night and find all work on hold as HSE finish their investigation into an incident. An agency driver had been given his unit and was connecting to his trailer, when he connected the airline he started rolling forward, he’d forgotten to apply the brakes on the unit and didn’t check the trailer brake, he jumped off and ran around the front of the unit and tried to get in the cab. Unfortunately for him the unit drifted right trapping him between the door and a 7.5 t vehicle. Cue ambulance, fire service & HSE team. No damage to driver or vehicles.
Think on people, it’s a vehicle, it can be fixed/replaced, you cannot.

Surely his hazard lights and hiviz would have stopped this happening…!!!
Why don’t they teach you to just disconnect the red line when this happens■■? You can’t out-run a wagon on a hill…
Even better, put the ■■■■■■■ brake on the trailer and unit first!!!

A really simple solution to that problem would be to place the trailer parking brake button next to the airline couplings on the front of the trailer

Yep. A simple, no nonsense, little expense, excellent idea.
Hence why it will never come to fruition.
Whatever you do DON’T report this otherwise elf n safety will ban all reversing without a banksman
Well spotted though, good on ya
Don’t know if they still have it but Tescos units used to have a whistle that sounded IF you opened door with handbrake off !
Simple idea that worked !

It already has come to fruition on many trailers I’ve pulled and I agree it is a good idea.
Stobarts drivers have to take the keys out every time they leave the cab. I take it that ensures the engine is off and handbrake is on? Clearly they’ve never had to work with a vehicle that’s got RunLock fitted
