Banged up for six months for what really is a victimless crime. Who died?, who got hurt?, nobody all ifs buts and maybes. Are the jails all full of people who work too much and thats why “real criminals” walk the streets?.

I’ve read some [zb] on this forum and this is is as much rubbish as anything I’ve read on here, go & buy a truck and try to make a living out of it before you make a comment about someone like this. International road haulage is one of the toughest sectors to make a living from as the rates aren’t set by British o/d’s who ‘pull the fuse’, but by hauliers from the former commie block with 12 year old trucks &two blokes called Stanislav double manning all over europe virtually none stop for a few hundred Euro’s a month each. These forums are full of people that are always ready to ‘put the boot in’ to people about who’s lives they know absolutely nothing about & I don’t mind admitting I’m getting really sick of this whiter than white attitude, some of you ‘hi-viz’ brigade should join the flippin clergy!!
I’m off before I blow a fuse.

Well said, I could not agree more. The scandal here isnt that this driver broke the law in the way that he did but the fact that he no doubt had to in order to maintain his business against the totally unfair and uneven playing field forced upon us all by the EU and their eastward expansion. In an ideal world this man wouldn’t have done what he has, but in that same ideal world British trucks would have a bigger market share of their own export work than the 10-15% that we do have. This man is just another victim of the situation thrust upon us by our politicians as they sell us all off down the river. The judge talking about level playing fields is a bit much though, just how far removed from reality is he?! He’s obviously never seen the playing field in question.

I wonder if his fellow inmates will actually laugh at him when they hear what he’s in for?
So let me see if I’ve got this right, someone robs a bank with a shotgun but he never fires it and no one is injured, then it’s ok because “times are hard” and it’s only a “real crime” when someone is injured

I’m glad you’ve cleared that up for me

would imagine still on analogue tachograph !! and prob an owner driver scraping together a living !!he’s defo not the first and won’t be the last
And by running bent he is under cutting his fellow OD’s therefore making it even harder for them to scrape a living

I don’t view Happysack as one of the poster’s you describe but I do know exactly what you mean. I don’t think I can stomach any more panic attacks about strapping pallets in a curtainsider. Next they’ll be finger wagging because their employer doesn’t provide them with enough straps to strap down every splinter of wood in a chipliner.
Surprised someone hasn’t cited inference with a vehicles tachograph as evidence why we all need DCPC yet.

Ah but now you come to mention it…I really think I need more internal straps;-)
The guy has been done before, We should learn by our mistakes.
- admit to [zb] all.
- have an explanation ready.
- be one step ahead of them.
Towards the end of the artice, The copper explains in a round about way, That they have no evidence. so therefore:
4) get a good brief.
The judge said it’s the end of his driving career. . my arse.
No sympathy for what he’s done, and I’m in favour of harshness in prisons (no tv, bread and water etc) but I don’t agree with 6months prison. Community service for 6 months (allowing him time to work so he doesn’t claim) litter picking or collecting Bulgarian Babies from laybys would be more apt. Banning him for life from operating lgvs could be a possibilty too. All cheaper than prison.

Thats a bad example as there are victims in that instance, the trauma suffered by the employees in the bank. This driver however affected nobody elses life. Hes just out earning a crust.
it’s a sad state of affairs when someone gets sent down for working too hard.
You get rewarded in this country for doing sod all all day.
Who did he hurt? no one.
are tachograph rules designed with safety in mind? no. they are designed so all operators are working to the same set of rules.

He didn’t, he got sent down for breaking the law, since leaving school I’ve had a few jobs and I’ve worked hard in a fair few of them, and how many times have I been sent down ■■ None, coincidently the same number of times I’ve broken the law

Top quality analogy Darb, bet you really had to work your brain hard to come up with that load of irrelevant old testicles. Jeez, how the hell do you get from working too many hours to walking into a bank with a shotgun?
Clearly it’s beyond your severely limited intelect to find an alalogy with some authority or relevance, go and check you’ve strapped that load well enough, I’m sure youre good at that.
The prisons are full of rapists & murderers, and now the ‘overfull’ prison system will have a cell filled with a driver who worked too hard, in another occupation he’d be hearalded as a hero, someone to look up to!! Remember “superhod” the bloke who drove a Rolls Royce to work on a building site cos he worked that hard with an oversized hod? He should be looking at 15 years if he was an HGV driver!!
Being sent to jail for this is a total injustice and I believe every fair minded driver should support him, I’m not saying for one second that he shouldn’t be punnished, he clearly knew exactly what he was doing and still took the chance so should be for the high jump!!!
6 months for working too hard? unbelievable!!!

Ross.
limey, he didnt get sent down for working too hard, it was cos he broke the rules, the same rules you have mentioned to keep everyone on the same level, unfortunately, there are some who dont stick to those rules, and theyre the ones who should get caught, and prosecuted. We can all argue the toss as to whether the rules are fair, but some moan when another gets caught, and states he never hurt anyone
…but lets face it, when someone kills innocent people on the roads, some moan he should be locked up and the key thrown away, yet that could be the same type of person who has just been jailed for working too hard
. As far as i`m concerned, rules are there for our own benefit, and thank god they are, or we will go back 30 years to the 19 hr days plus, and a pittance to live on.
Aawwwww did I upset you with my differing opinion ■■ I do apologise
+1 Ross

He didn’t exceed a speed limit or drop a bit of litter, he altered his truck so he could run illegally, he got caught and got sent down, one less idiot on the roads
you would be quite surprised at who’s at the fiddling game and not just the o/d’s and small firms either.
