Whitby to Scarbrough road, you go up this hill, around a bend, then down a hill, and there in front of you is a true Bobby Dazzler of a bend, with a bridge thrown in ! Careful though, it’s like no bend you’ve ever experienced. No room for fools !!
How about your favourite hill, mine is Staxton Hill leading in to Scarborough, now that one is a beaut.
Complete with emergency run off at the bottom, have seen it being used by a car and caravan for a picnic, and an AA patrol to repair a car, MORONS.
Police called on both occasions, and they weren’t bothered, until I told them that through my boss, the Chief Constable would find out(personal friends, you know).
Action taken.

Yep I know it! I also like sutton bank but were not alowed to go that way anymore either up nor down
My favourite in this area is on US 2 going from Mass into NY, you climb for about 10 miles, as you reach the apex you see the ‘Welcome to New York’ sign, you go over the sumit and right in front of you on the down hill grade is a right angle bend to the right, a two foot barrier with a 1,000 foot drop if you don’t make the turn.
My favorites:
UK: Leasty favorite has to be the horley bends on the A14, most favorite, A39 west of Minehead
US: I80 in colorado, west of Denver, as it crosses the really mountainous bit of the rockies, or the interstate west across the Apalachians on the NC/TN state line… both utterly breathtaking views.
national 143 between Pau and garlin France, concrete wall going up hill and theres wheel nut ruts in it !!! you have to brake going up hill as there that sharp !!!
i havnt got a favourite bend cos i can handle anything the highways throw at me (cos im a professional)..but i have got a favourite bender..its usually on a saturday night.and lasts until sunday morning..and the effects are still there on sunday afternoon..and my wife reminds me constantly..normally with the words serves you right`…and so it does…but it dont happen so often nowdays…
neil, i went there the first time in '94 in a 220-36 iveco turbotech!
it was my first time over in a truck, i basically followed the back doors of the truck in front ( there were 3 of us ) except when i took a wrong turn near lyon!
it was amazing climbing up on the way home in the dark seeing the lights of the villages so far below.
i preferred it when i was on my own though, i could go at my own pace, and take notice of where i was, much more fun

is it the IP5 in portugal??
that scared the … out of me!
paul
You should have tried going down there before they got round to building the IP5, now that was scary, also the IP5 last time I was down there bout 1989 its the only road ive ever seen the police have a speed camera going up the drag instead of down (last big one before ‘villa formosa’) I think, long time ago so may be wrong on the border name, liked Baderhoz (sorry bout spelling) as crossing better as it was a little bit flatter.

Cant fault you mate, the IP5 still needs a bit of respect. Especially the hill at Guarda. The bends are not that really acute but with that descent ,comin from Vila Formosa, its some road. And Badajoz is a bit flatter.
In November 1987 my mate and I got jobs driving the very first two DAF 95’s on the road in the UK, we used to go to Bridgewater each night and back MK empty, no limiters back then, comming back empty we would see who could take the curve under the M5/M4 junction as we passed from the M5 northbound onto the M4 eastbound, we did have empty flat tri-axles, my best was 80 mph before I cracked. A very foolish thing to do but foolhardy young idiots do that sort of thing, now I wouldn’t try it over 75
