My favourite bend!

Pat Hasler:
In November 1987 my mate and I got jobs driving the very first two DAF 95’s on the road in the UK, we used to go to Bridgewater each night and back MK empty, no limiters back then, comming back empty we would see who could take the curve under the M5/M4 junction as we passed from the M5 northbound onto the M4 eastbound, we did have empty flat tri-axles, my best was 80 mph before I cracked. A very foolish thing to do but foolhardy young idiots do that sort of thing, now I wouldn’t try it over 75

:open_mouth: :astonished:

Hell :exclamation: Wait 'til Ian (TC), Jammymutt and the rest of the DGB see this :astonished: . Hope you’ve got at least 13 layers of armour on, Pat :open_mouth:

   I have virtualy stated that it was a silly thing to do. My Mate started it and at the time i thought he would kill himself, then after afew weeks and he kept doing it I realised that it was a banked curve, so no matter how fast you went the truck and trailer stayed on course. He is still alive and well because I met him ib March.

I’ve heard… that on-the-limiter can be done round the bend from the M18 southbound on to the M180 eastbound but I wouldn’t know anything about it myself…

That corner’s banked :open_mouth: :open_mouth:   Darn! And I keep backing off on that one… you’d think a tipper driver working the area would get to know which corners you could take flat out… :unamused:

I’m dead…I’m dead… :open_mouth: .That’s the feeling I had when I tried it at about 68 ( always seemed to gain speed through there) on a damp day, about 10 years ago, when limiters were set at a sensible speed. It was a DAF 2100 Turbo Intercooler & fridge trailer. I felt the front end started to understeer towards the unprotected pillars that are underneath the M5 ( there is a concrete wall now). Have always been alot more careful since then.

My favourite bend’s the S bend, specially after a curry!
