My days are numbered

FFS, once CF got involved this turned into an EU rant…

Carryfast:

Franglais:
I would say points are a deterrent more than just a fine. Let`s get rid of habitual offenders who have fines paid by their bosses.

As I said running at more than coma inducing speeds on a clear French autoroute doesn’t exactly fit the definition of ‘habitual offender’.

Meanwhile I’m sure AndrewG will be ecstatic when he gets 6 points and tea and no biscuits with the TC about a dodgy limiter calibration for running at 100 kmh on a French autoroute. As for the paddies who knows what the Garda will do about them. :smiling_imp:

the garda will do what theyve always done and not give a toss unless its well ott…most of them would rather have a quiet life than crucify some truckie for motoring on a tad over 56.you can still get a tug over here with the question…is there a card in that tacho??..yep…do you want to see it?..nope just as long as theres one in there then take it handy, and byebye…somewhat unlike the normal plod/vosa lets keep digging till we can do him for something so we can justify our pishy job no matter how trivial attitude in the uk.
with a lot of places its as soon as the trucks on the road, then its down to the wizard, pop the seals,a wee tweak to have it sitting about 62,seals popped back in,and head for the boat…no messing no problem.whats wrong with that.

Exactly…and no puppies or kittens will get squashed in the process.

I wonder if its mumsnet CF should be on instead of here…

Leave it out.Having run more of my time in the job without limiters than with I was actually agreeing with you and dd999 at least where motorway speeds are concerned. It’s Franglais who needs to be on mumsnet as he’s the one who wants a foreign licence endorsed for a French speed infringement. :unamused:

While the only ‘bollox’ I was referring to is the silly idea that the wrong ( most ) French coppers would be happy with just taking a Garda type attitude if he’s followed you at 100 kmh with his zb Frog law car or pinged you in the hidden laser trap. :open_mouth: Just as even less than 120 mph,on a road safe for 150 mph, with a car is now off the menu there at least in daylight. On that note I’d almost agree with Franglais in that French enforcement is arguably as tough if not even worse than Brit bearing in mind road design and traffic conditions. With a cross border licence penalty system being the final nail in that regard. While the only reason that we aren’t still able to run trucks here at reasonable motorway speeds is because the Frogs and Krauts said we can’t.

Im trying to avoid saying whether or not any speed limits etc are justified; Im trying to say that an Eu reg vehicle/driver should be subject to the same sanctions and punishment as a UK vehicle /driver in the UK. If you feel that its ok for a foreign driver to ignore our speed limits etc, so you can have a fair chance to drive in other countries with impunity, then you and I will have to disagree. Didnt think I`d end up “knocking the foreigners” whilst you defended them tho, Carryfast.

Until the French can justify their silly speed enforcement regime then no thanks it’s better to keep the status quo at least regards the licence penalty system. The point in this case being the irony of France being seen as a softer touch in that regard than here. When it’s the French who wanted trucks to be limited to 90 kmh both here and there. :unamused:
