Moving on..

Balls to the shunter.

As others have said - his opinion of you matters the sum total of nothing, nada, zip, nowt!!

Just sit there knowing that in a short while you will be gone up the road. You will actually see something other than that yard and those bays.

Him? He will see nothing other than the same bit of concrete. Same bay doors. Same miserable faces. Discussing the same miserable things.

Day in. Day out.

Id be bitter if I was in his shoes.

Feel better now?

I asked the ops manager on my interview about the holiday pay, and he told me it was averaged out. (If you read CAREFULLY, it says ’ an average of TAXABLE pay '). When I put this to him, he told me that he would find out and get back to me.

Guess what?..Beavers are very clever animals it turns out. Meal allowance is NON TAXABLE, and DOES NOT get paid when on holiday.

You will end up with around £340 net pay per week on hols.

Yes that sums it up nicely [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] it ■■■■■■ me off at the time but I got over it in the end… it just would of been nice for him to notice I’m new and had a bit of patience so now iv made a sign up saying “I’m new” to avoid future shaking of the heads…

I’ve found that deliberately cocking up reverses raises a smile or two, also when told to put it on say bay 8, drive on and hand your keys in. The warehouse lads have a right giggle when they open the bay doors and see you sat there waving at them.

Other ways to entertain folk and make new friends by acting daft are available in my upcoming e-book ‘Dippers Trucking and Tribbing Adventures’.

I think it’s 6 months mate!! (They will also charge you for the uniform). Best bet is to take the job, do 6-12 months and then move to pastures new. The money is ok for Mon-Fri day work, it works out around £10 per hour all in, but bear in mind that you will be £75 a week down when you are on holiday.(5 x £15 per day meal allowance doesn’t get paid).

As far as I’m aware they work your holiday pay out as an average wage now… it changed not long back according to the guy training me he’s owed a few grand in back pay

Our place pay you based on your P60 income from the previous year (if you’ve not done a full year, it’s based on your last 6 weeks wages,) I’ve never asked the question, but I’d bet it’s based on your taxable wages, which wouldn’t include a meal allowance or in my case, night out money.

I went into proctor and gamble and went in the wrong que and they moaned like old women , then they loaded me a tri and I took it back too the depot , parked up and t. O bod came running across the yard and said why have you got that tri ?, because that’s the one they loaded it on :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: ( dumb zb) , but you were meant to get the taut liner fridge you took in live loaded   , how would I know that  , because I rang you and told you , were you not taking a blind bit of notice of what I said , we need that tri :smiling_imp: , apparently depot shunter said he was spitting feathers when he found out it was loaded and on route down the south west somewhere
Don’t think I ever went in there again

I think the holiday pay is being changed up because of this recently :

Interesting that they are having to change to average pay for holidays…

Does this mean all companies will have to do this, or as it was settled out of court no precedent has been set?

Just had a call from Stobarts I ve progressed to the next stage so I will have an email in the next few days apparently. Not really sure what that means but we shall see lol

Not sure of the legalities of it tbh, but where I work pay an average for holiday. Actually works out well for us because if we do a six day week that wage is divided by five to give us an average daily holiday pay. I earn more being off than I do at work!

Ye that means you got an assessment basically. It took them a good few weeks to get back to me but when you go it’s just a 20 - 30 min drive around your local depot and a reverse on a bay. After that you have an interview with a transport manager then you got the job basically

I just wondered on what grounds Unite were fighting ES on, and whether this now means others will have to follow suit…
