Moving on..

Here’s a question for Storbartophiles…

Do they ever actually sack people there, or just wait for everyone to leave for more money eventually? :unamused:
(Serious question actually)

I know a few that have been sacked. One i know laughed because he’d lined up a job with a nearby big company with fancy wagons. He’s a bit worse off now.

same here, just waiting for a driving assessment

Hi guys well it’s been ok so far apart from the early starts that was a bit of a shock to the system haha but I got on with it started 3am Monday morning and 3:30 this morning doing roughly 12 to 13 hour shifts… most of the jobs are r.d.c’s but done a lidl today where you unload yourself (them electric pallet trucks are fun right?) but other than that the hardest thing I have to do is open the back doors! I’m getting better at reversing but iv not attempted a blind side reverse yet…

I put in an application to this advert for sittingbourne only to be told on being offered an assessment (unpaid) that the actual monday-friday night rate was £8.10ph (2012)
I withdrew my application. :unamused:

Haha how old is that advertisement? They gave me a sheet with various shift patterns on how your pay works out showing your take home pay… I chose Mon-Fri days 50 hours a week but it looks like I’ll be doing 60 plus hours so not sure what I’ll get yet…

Beaver will be along shortly. They sacked him.

Saying that, he’d got another job, and didn’t want them taking the uniform and cpc money out of his last wage. So he pushed them into a corner.

Took some doing though Trampo.

It was ■■■■■■■ me off in the end. I kept refusing stuff, but they wouldn’t bloody discipline me!! Got there in the end though.

I wonder if “tactical-get-yourself-sacked” might become a lot more common in the future…
How many jobs are there right now where they want you to start next monday/tomorrow/asap or whatever - but you have to work a notice period, during which time the job ends up going to someone else in the meantime…?

I know a few lads who have got themselves ’ tactically sacked ’ Winseer. Lot’s of differing reasons. You are right about ’ starting straight away '. Simple case of doing something to get yourself suspended on full pay pending an ’ investigation ’ (which I erm.believe can be dragged out nicely by not answering a phone and therefore requiring a letter to be received and acknowledged)).
Some do it because their circumstances may mean that certain benefits pay better, and they only took the job because they had to. One chap I know got himself constructively sacked because he was getting hammered by the CSA. Loads of different reasons.

Yes they mentioned they take the Cpc money back if you leave within 3 months… it was a real confidence booster

I think it’s 6 months mate!! (They will also charge you for the uniform). Best bet is to take the job, do 6-12 months and then move to pastures new. The money is ok for Mon-Fri day work, it works out around £10 per hour all in, but bear in mind that you will be £75 a week down when you are on holiday.(5 x £15 per day meal allowance doesn’t get paid).

Went up the A5 last week and a Stobart spotter took my picture as I was driving my unit with a matching company trailer (I’m not stobarts). I bet he had a ■■■■ over it later.

As far as I’m aware they work your holiday pay out as an average wage now… it changed not long back according to the guy training me he’s owed a few grand in back pay

Had to go to proctor and gamble at purfleet today and had a tricky reverse onto a bay and a shunter driver was waiting to get past it took me a fair few shunts and after I done it he stopped and shook his head at me stopped again just to make sure I was looking and shook his head again… I mean was there any need for that really! ■■■■■■ me right off!

Don’t worry mate, the shunters in there are 90% morons, and 10% brain dead

The only mistake you made there was worrying what someone else thinks about you, or your ability to reverse a truck…
