I had to have 9 hours at Hilton park, but all I could get was burger king or Greggs.I wanted a hot traditional English meal but now, like lamb and potatoes and veg.Has this all gone now?
Wasn’t there a Marks and Spencer or Waitrose and a microwave in your cab?
The transport cafe on the top floor of Hilton Park served some great proper meals at fair prices, the staff were friendly too.
Yes,there was an m and s,but I wanted a sit down meal.But microwave,we dont get those luxuries
You were less than 30 mins off Hollies and Truckers Rest A5, same from Wychbold off M5, and a bit longer but not much from Lincoln Farm, 15 mins off The Cricketers pub at West Brom or even that cafe off the A449 which name escapes me.
So being that there is a much better alternative in nearly every direction…why tf would you choose to go to Hilton ■■■■ Park?

it’s the standeford cafe on the 449 rob…
Yes…
It has all gone.
With drivers constantly trying to work for 9 hours and only wanting 15 minutes off, why give them proper facilities? Some of them appearing so hell bent on finishing early, they’ll quite literally kak their pants rather than stop.
I’m sure the fast food giants are already researching into grab and go for truck drivers. Like the water stand at a marathon where everyone keeps running whilst grabbing a cup of water. I’d put in for a job if it involved throwing soggy meal deals at passing lorry drivers open windows.
How many of those would be open on a Sunday though, Rob? Rikki’s at a closed Lincoln Farm as we speak. Still has to pay for parking though.
As an aside, he admitted he’s never been to Lincoln Farm before, in all his years driving. I pointed out he effectively still hasn’t - he hasn’t been so blocked in by the parking wallah that he’d be a gonna if someone’s motor caught fire, hasn’t has to dodge the holes in the floor in the showers, nor has anyone tried to convert him!

Yep good point Lucy,.I’m kinda lost and confused with days because I did not get back until today,.where it’s usually Saturday I finish so I’m forgetting it’s Sunday.
:…so just ignore me.
Aah the joy of Licoln Farm,.a Truckstop that has not changed in decor since I first went there in 1979 as a young kid,.I remember staying in their digs and the lass pointing to my cowboy boots (hey c’mon it was the 70s ) telling me to put the bed legs inside them or they’d get nicked.
Then in the 80s where the ‘entertainment’ was akin to that on the Rieperbhan in Hamburg or Amsterdam red light area
…not that I’ve been to either or both…honest.
None of that today as the owner is a fully paid up member of The God Squad,.with a bible on the wall and a sign inviting you to come and ‘‘have a talk’’ if you have problems…so don’t be surprised if Rikki comes back home to you telling you he’s found Jesus and he’s '‘born again ‘’’.

Yep, exactly what it was like when I used it too! As for Rik, if I can avoid a good bible bashing in an open Lincoln Farm, I’m sure he’ll be fine - unless, of course, the owner does personal visits, given as how it’s Sunday…

Don’t know about Hilton park but plenty of services have a microwave for heating babies bottles / food , I’ve often used them , but always make sure I give it a thorough clean after
I’ve been off the road for a while now - but it still seems like you have to go as far East as Afghanistan or as far South beyond Cameroon to get worse road food than the UK.
Even then you can look forward to much better food after a day or so, i.e. going East to Pakistan or South to Zambia

You were less than 30 mins off Hollies and Truckers Rest A5, same from Wychbold off M5, and a bit longer but not much from Lincoln Farm, 15 mins off The Cricketers pub at West Brom or even that cafe off the A449 which name escapes me.

Wychbold is now only parking, the cafe closed over a year ago(after having gone downhill, and with very irregular opening times…). Still has showers though, and a pub across the road (not cheap).
I need to check that pub in Bromwich, how far is it from the Mway? I used to park in Willenhal, Weathersppons around the corner, but not been there for about 5 years.

Seriously mate if you’re tramping you should broaden your horizons,.as far as I’m concerned MSAs are an ABSOLUTE last resort, the last time I stayed at one was about 5 years ago, and only because my time was up after an RTA that I’d been stuck in.
As for your other posts … the transport cafe at Hilton Park that Juddian is on about shut down about 20 years ago.
The 2 cafes on the A5 are well before the low bridges.

Trusthouse Forte
You know what?..I think it actually was at that time.
Or was it Top Rank (the owner’s name not the state of the facilities )
