Motorway food,from bad to worse

History. Hilton Park opened in 1970 operated by Top Rank, and is now operated by Moto. In 1998 it was reported to be the busiest service station on the UK motorway network.
Thanks Wikipedia.

Can’t believe what I’ve read above ^^^^^

The amount of posts on here that always moan and groan about the lack of facilities,
the lack of good food, the food is reheated, the fact that after 10 p.m. it’s closed!!,
DON’T USE these OVERPRICED and TOTALLY can I say CRAP places !!!

I come over from France, and use my brain, if I’m hungry , be it en route or nearing a break,
I will come off route and using my mobile, look for a Chinese, Chippy, PizzaHut etc, in a town that I am nearby,
Buy want I want and go to a lovely quiet place to park up , eat with a bottle of vino and CHILL !!!

Give me a break people

you all need to chill

This is why you hear drivers (the tin box crew) saying they don’t fancy tramping, it’s THEIR idea and version of it they don’t fancy. :unamused:
If it meant sat nav set to destination, never going (or frightened to :unamused: ) go off route to park somewhere SUITABLE with whatever facilities you require, living off crap at MSAs through the day that they they call ‘food’, then parking up at night on one as a first option, or worse a ■■■■ lay by, then eating more crap food, then staying in your cab bored out of yer skull for 9/11 hours to start another drudge the next day…even I wouldn t fancy tramping either,.and I’ve done it since God was a lad.

The transport cafe on the top floor of Hilton Park served some great proper meals at fair prices, the staff were friendly too.

Bloody hell,I didnt know about that.I will go there next time

Sorry, should have been more clear this was history, i posted in the past tense.

There used to be a few MSAs that shock horror,.wait for it…actually catered for truckers !! :open_mouth: as you’ll no doubt recall Juddian.
Hilton Park,.Knutsford, Toddington, and the tower cafe at Forton to name a few.
Then there was Charnock Richard that had their cafe sectioned off,.then later on with the added bonus of a walk over the field to Park Hall eatery and nightclub for a ■■■■ good night out.
I even remember the days when you could walk to the front of the queue at an MSA public cafe ,.say the word ‘‘Transport’’ and get priority. :open_mouth:
How times have changed.
Knocking this on the head I’m sounding like Uncle Albert…‘‘During the war’’

Watford Gap too, always a busy transport cafe.

^^^^^

The Blue Boar. Ross Foods ran Membury and Leicester Forest, and one I can’t recall up the M6, with good transport sections and Scratchwood had a very big transport cafe.

robroy:
You were less than 30 mins off Hollies and Truckers Rest A5, same from Wychbold off M5, and a bit longer but not much from Lincoln Farm, 15 mins off The Cricketers pub at West Brom or even that cafe off the A449 which name escapes me.
So being that there is a much better alternative in nearly every direction…why tf would you choose to go to Hilton [zb] Park?

Exactly what I thought, perhaps he has no post code for his sat nav.

I only had 45 minutes left before the 15 hours was up so I never had time to look at those other places

Aust Services, by the old Severn Bridge, had a separate building with a cafe, toilets and showers, and separate parking. When the new bridge opened, the main building was closed, and the transport cafe turned into a small services.

The original services building incidentally was rather exceptional, with panoramic views of the estuary, a covered walkway and tunnel amongst other novel designs. A time when bold design was still possible, rather than sqeezing every last penny of “stakeholder value” out of it…

If you absolutely must stop at an MSA overnight and given your time constraints then Norton Canes on the M6 Toll would have fitted your bill; modern services with a wide variety of hot food outlets open until ridiculous o clock. Plus, if you pay for overnight parking you get a voucher for a free pass along the toll road.

Oh,flipping hell,I wished I had known that, that Hilton park isnt my favourite place

Not as i have nights out, unless caught out, but thanks for that note about getting a freeby journey for overnighting at Norton Canes, do they take SNAP do you know?

Couldn’t tell you Juddian. We’re not on it so it’s not something I take note of tbh. I imagine that they do given the number of foreign motors that park there overnight.

Having said that I’m not sure how Snap works, I understand that some places don’t give out meal vouchers when using it, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they don’t honour the free pass system.

Cheers Maoster, no i haven’t the foggiest how SNAP works either other than at the odd truckwash, and good point about it likely being only the basics so the free toll pass may well not apply either.

Hopefully it won’t be an issue and i can see my remaining trucking days out without even one more night out :sunglasses:

Your having a laugh , calling other drivers & your best efforts after driving round are a chip shop / pizza place meal that’s referred to as junk food in this country , that’s why there’s a obesity crisis , your eating garbage , and your paying for it
Id rather stop at Hilton park ( save your wasted driving round ) and do as suggested above , using your meal voucher to get a salad , fruit & orange juice from m&s , that’s healthy food not the fat / calorie laden garbage your eating

There’s nothing wrong with Hilton park , just do as said above or as I did when I was tramping , use m&s , use your £10 voucher & get a ham salad , yougurt , fruit , orange juice etc , it’s healthy food & it costs you £0
You can also depending what you’ve got left voucher / money wise get a apple / orange juice with a porridge for your breakfast
There’s nothing wrong with any of that contrary to what theyl tell you , it’s all healthy food

Yes,its got to be more healthy than the triplevwhopper I had!
