I just passed a new-looking Morrisons Volvo FM pulling what looked like a bulk or tipper trailer (I’ve never worked in bulk so never really got to grips with trailer types). It was heading west on the A55 just near Chester. It just struck me as strange, as I’ve never seen Morrisons units pulling anything other than their own trailers before.
The unit looked new - it certainly didn’t look like one which had been sold on and not repainted or anything.
Any ideas what it would have been hauling? Do they haul their own potatoes, for example?
I take we are talking of the supermarket? I have seen them pull empty skellys and more surprisingly a lowloader. That one turned my head i was like wtf is he doing with that
They collect bulk loads of potatoes, carrots, etc from farms and then pack them in house , Gadbrook depot (Northwich) has a packing plant next to ambient warehouse.
Morries have several bulkers … as in bulk tippers based @ Gadbrook packing plant to take the waste / reject veg … i think most of it goes for animal feed.
I think they may also use bulkers @ slaughter plant @ Colne … although that isn’t called Morrisons
Can’t think who i’ve seen pulling the bulkers … but that Morries unit must have tipping gear, as the trls i’ve seen don’t have donkey engines on them.
Thanks for the replies - my first thought was potatoes or some kind of veg. It was definitely an FM - unusual in itself we’ve got a Morrisons at the end of our street and all they seem to use for deliveries are Mercs and DAFs.

They use the lowloader to move their FLTs about and also any broken down tractor units.

then do they break the load down, and count every spud?
