Funny though…these initiatives usually lead to the discovery of more serious offences.
It’s not as if a patrol simply focuses on naff private plates and ignores anything else they see that day.
I love this idea that coppers pulling someone for an offence should go after the real criminals. …
If you’ve broken the law you ARE the real criminal…just a poor imitation of the more serious variety
Specials …Those [zb] s are like politicians…
The fact that somebody WANTS to become a one,.should disqualify them from doing so.
Something wrong with somebody who could be a [zb] and get paid for it, but chooses to do it for free instead.
Not prepared to go the whole way with the job, but prefer to play at it…a bit like ‘‘day men’’ in fact [emoji38] …I m joking, I’m joking.
A bit like those who could be paid several pounds per hour full time to look after vehicles but choose instead to do it for £27 per night (as well as kipping in the [zb] things) because well, “lifestyle…”
I don’t know who is laughing hardest TBH - the paid bobbies pointing at the volunteers who do it for free or the “day men” who spend their down-time enjoying the fruits of their own labour and the company of their families. (Also only joking of course - salt of the earth the lot of 'em!). No, in reality it’s the politicians who spend their entire careers being paid by the state to feather their own nests (no joking this time).
Where are these jobs you speak of that pay you an hourly rate for ‘‘looking after’’ your truck?
I like the sound of them if they in fact exist.
.
And do you have enough time to ‘‘enjoy the company of your families’’ in your 9 or 11s off,.(2 of those hours presumably spent commuting back and forth.)
Nah I’ll stick to my 11 hours proper rest in my role as a …as you lot say '‘unpaid security guard’ in my ‘‘tin box’’ thanks, it makes for a less stressful life.

I ain’t the biggest fan of the Police, and I’m accused of always knocking them, but by Christ do they keep giving me ammunition. thesun.co.uk/motors/1663433 … ate-tweak/
I see you didn’t read past the headline…
"“We’ll be targeting all vehicles using false number plates, a tactic often by some criminal groups to avoid detection,” the station’s Twitter posted to social media. "
And as in the article some alter their plates to evade detection.
Are you saying you don’t want the police to do their job? People like you make me laugh. On one hand you complain that they don’t do their job, that when you read a story you’ll go “well why didn’t they do so and so” but when they do pro-active policing that often results in them catching or at least interrupting the lives of those involved in the stuff you say they do nothing to stop you then complain that they go after low hanging fruit.
But then as you read the Sun it comes as no surprise.
Oh but I did, I just didn’t believe it.
Funny that, cos people like you make me laugh also.
Those who believe the official line on anything, without seeing the real reason for it.
How many tweaked plates do you see up and down the country, abd unless you are some buffoon it’s easy to still read the original plate, just a bit of fun and harmless customisation, but every one subject to a potential thousand pound fine…kerching.
But lets justify it to the gullible by putting the words ‘criminal gangs’ in the official blurb.
I don’t know what it’s like around your way, but up here they tend to use false plates rather than make a 4 into an A or move a letter over to make a name.
Pity you ain’t half the smart arse in reality Conor, than what you continuously attempt to portray on here.
You just don’t believe it?
Oh.
Well that’s that then.
False plates and cloning are common amongst organised crime.
Then you have the brain dead who modify their plates or don’t stick to the rules who then make ANPR recognition of their plates difficult.
Rules are there for a reason. Your choice not to adhere to them…but ffs stop whining when you get pinged for it.

Not so much plod as monkey.
Not sure why the need to edit to highlight that fact though. Being ex monkey clearly doesn’t make me unique in seeing that such initiatives have value.
You’re hardly going to give an unbiased opinion, nor listen to anybody slagging off your mates…( however justifiable that may be) though are you.
I’m surprised you haven’t ‘‘Called in for back up’’ as you lot say , from that clown who tells us he lives in his mansion and is ashamed to tell people he’s now a driver.
(Btw ain’t got a ■■■■ clue nor care what a ‘‘monkey’’ is or was, as far as I know you’re ex Old Bill in some form or another…nuff said.)

My mates? [emoji1787]
I don’t know anyone in that neck of the woods, copper or otherwise.
My mates are people I know and like, not every copper [emoji1787]
I know this will fuse your mind, but I never did blind loyalty And if this exercise was a crock of crap, I’d say so.
But it has value. Far too simple to claim its all about a grand fine…when I doubt the initiative will end with anyone paying that. It’s just lazy stereotyping by you.
Campaign to get the law changed if it bugs you so much but until then people who can’t follow a simple law will keep getting FPN
robroy:
Not stereotyping mate, QUOTING , as in the article.
The article states what the maximum penalty is
Joe Bloggs with his naff plate stopped at the roadside will most of the time get advice, if not he’ll get a 100 quid FPN…assuming he isn’t pinged for other offences.
jakethesnake:
I can see it from both sides. On one hand I would rather see police out and about on the roads stopping the likes of red light jumpers, poor lane dicipline, tailgating, speeding and all the other offences we see everyday but if while doing that they see an illegal plate then pull them and fine them. Maybe it’s just me but from what I used to see the ones
with the illegal number plates are thr type who usually break other laws as well.
I.E. More traffic cars to deal with traffic offences only. They could make a fortune and help improve road safety at the same time.
We dont need more traffic cops we need more cops on the street.
When my motorbike got stolen, They did not even bother to visit. I have heard countless similar stories of police unwilling to check CCTV/follow leads when it comes to stolen vehicles.
Heck when it comes to police dealing with stolen vehicles they only seem to care if it’s a celebrity.
Police have gone from a preventative presence on the street (Just the presence of police on the street reducing crime). To being a reactionary force who only deals with crime when it occurs.
Heck when it comes to Motorcycle thefts, the majority of the time they wont even chase the suspect if they see him driving your stolen Bike. bikerandbike.co.uk/the-bike … criminals/
I’ve told this story before on here when this subject comes up about selective easy target policing…
My youngest lad who was just 17 at the time had just passed his test, he stopped at a junction in town and this [zb] yobbo punched him in the face through his open window.
He sped away from the junction,. and up the road, no more than 10 yards up got pulled by the Police … with a ‘noisy exhaust’
Did they go looking for the yobbo?
Take a guess.
I nearly got myself arrested the next morning kicking off about it in the Police station.
As for motorbike theft, my lad got his bike nicked out of the shed, police not interested.
My mate got his car nicked,.again they went through the motions and nothing else.
Me and my mate took 12 hours the next day to find the car by asking a couple of ‘local faces’ and ,.and we are only truckers not detectives.
We had to go and get it back ourselves mob handed,.carrying baseball bats that we luckily did not have to use. …I mean ffs we should not have had to put ourselves at risk.
This is the sort of thing that totally ■■■■■■ me off about the Police, unless it s an easy target or a money making excercise, they ain’t interested.
When my Motorbike got stolen I got given a crime reference number and ■■■■ all else.
So I went searching for it and posted ads up on Facebook.
It turned up a week later as someone saw the Facebook advert and noticed the bike it was about 500 yards away from my house dumped in an alley. So they phoned the Police. Did the police return my bike?
Like hell they did. They called a recovery vehicle and transported 20 miles away to their local recovery centre.
I had to pay £200 for the privleage of getting my motorbike back.
■■■■ the police.
The damage done to the bike was like £150. So the Police screwed me over more than the actual thieves.
Hmmnn…a couple of points from the incredible & mighty Beaver.
Most ‘proper/intelligent/prosperous’ criminals do not alter number plates. This would attract attention which is a bad thing. I know a number of folks who do not ‘conform’, they tend to drive Insignia’s and cars like a Ford Focus, mid range spec around 6 years old in very mundane colours. They drive sensibly and regularly check their lights/tyres etc and are fully insured/taxed etc.
To understand Robroy you must understand he is a NUFC fan. Not only that but he is a self confessed unpaid security guard at night. Clearly the man has issues so we must allow a little ‘latitude’ However altering a private plate is no big deal is it? Nobody gets hurt by this and I am sure there is no assumption that folk with adjusted plates would drive off after running someone over for example.
RR has hit the nail on the head, it is a money making initiative and serves zero progress on keeping people safe. Regardless of whether the police are full time or pretend, the time should be spent on other pressing matters.
I am sure that altered plates annoy the hell out of many on here, that’s because many on here are bitter miserable and sad and have little else in life to worry about. I also believe that plenty on here who are moaning about number plates do a number of things that are frowned upon. Adultery? A bit of untaxed extra income? Bought something that fell off a lorry? Grassed someone up? Drive above the speed limit?
Get on with your own business and stop lecturing others on the rights & wrongs of life you [zb]ing hypocrites

You know a couple of wrong doers who ensure their car doesn’t draw attention?
Smart move … and no more than anecdotal evidence. Wider evidence and my own anecdotes suggest that routine vehicle stops often produce wider criminal dividends.

I’m just a rebel without a cause.
We used to do that in Germany all the time, the old 5p pieces were the same size thickness and weight as a German DM1 coin. Happy days and cheap phone calls home.
