I wonder if these latest electronic nightmare motors will in demand in Africa/Middle East when 5 years+, where they going to find the right diagnostics bod 300 miles North of Lagos when the bloody rubbish goes on the blink again.
I don’t think its a problem judging by some of the IT/Internet scams originating from those parts
What I do know is that electronics get deactivated for export. We moved some 3 to 4 year old trucks direct from the manufacturers lease return depot to Sheerness for shipping to Tanzinere, and we were warned that despite the vehicles still officially being in MOT, under no circumstances were they to be trade plated to the docks as ‘‘certain parameters had been changed and they were no longer legal to drive on UK roads’’
One can only assume that after they’d been MOT’d as required by a lot of countries who take our exports, the speed limiters, Taco’s and ABS warnings et all were no longer functioning, and the Ad-Blue systems were defunct
well we collected it today, it nearly made it out of the dealership, but then i put it into reverse, and it all began all over again… really !
Don’t M.A.N have a technical helpline they can call ■■? Or for a job like yours can’t one of M.A.Ns tech gurus come and look at the vehicle?? They have had more than enough time to look at it.Obviously i take it you aren’t paying anything as they haven’t fixed it .Luckily the dealership i work in actually employs a genuine auto spark…Obviously he can’t do 5 trucks at once ,but he will point us in the right direction and when quiet ,he will give us training on common faults or things we don’t quiet understand…Some faults just need a proper electrician, unfortunately manufacturers don’t seem to think so ,even when i was in R.E.M.E they talked about getting rid of sparkys …Personally i think they are needed more now than ever

Unbelievable irony considering that not that long ago no one probably would have said that an old Foden is as good as,let alone a better wagon than, any of the euro options. All that’s needed now is (much) cheaper untaxed fuel and get rid of all the emissions bs regs and then maybe the British truck manufacturing industry could return like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
OK! No surprise ,now if I can assist assuming you can go to the dealership and gain access to the rig.The Actros I had had been given a new clutch the fitter replacing everything had attached the harness using cable ties and had failed to replace the plastic protection between the harness and the steel brackets this caused the wiring to rub through which I only found after lifting every wire above the brackets and inspecting for rubbing underneath which I found.Problem was this 'earthed 'out the canbus system and made the electrics susceptible to external influences.I do have a film which I made shows the braking system and other functions failing to function, good fun at 40 tonne. This situation had been going on for over 6 months fortunately I had R&M so didn’t pay but MB laughed their head off when I told them the braking system could be knocked out by pylons and radio masts they wern’t laughing when I proved it and filmed it.
You might just have a similiar prob.certainly what I would be looking for first.
It’s well known that pylons can effect ecu’s due to rf frequency …The brand i work for first suffered it on Euro 3 engines ,initally we found if we put a shield round the engine ecu all was well ,then they did their homework and a simple earth strap from the ecu to the engine block solved it…Never an issue since …Have never had it happen on any other systems on the brand i repair ,but i dare say it’s down to quality and fitment of ecu
Norb you will obviously be aware of the old trick of wrapping ecu’s in bakofoil.
I have given up with man trucks now, i have two, im going to be selling them asap. i have rented a unit for a month now, i just took the truck back to the yard and will have to learn to ignore the fault until i sell the thing, the sooner the better.
The dealer has had the opportunity to find the fault and failed don’t believe they have any right to expect you to pay for their failure.
I’d love to hear their explanation as to why they can’t find the fault, bet they’d never tell the truth & admit that all these electronics are a great in theory, but in practice, DON’T!!!

I have to be a bit fair here, its everytime they cancel out one warning light, another comes on, i fear its a never ending road, done 5 k now, i have had enough…
i,ve had FFR 03179-08 and EBS Diagnosis 03020-00 on and off for weeks , i just ignore them now
My old firm had quite a few MANS all threw up warnings local bloke used to come in and clear them every couple of months. ffr is fan some d20 engined trucks on 56 and 07 had faulty viscous fans but I’d imagine any moody ones would have shown up by now.

if new parts aint fixing it then its wiring thats rubbed through and touching metal or each other. my daf was doing that till i stripped all the wiring out down the passenger side from its protective sleeve and found 3 wires that had been rubbing against each other for a couple of years, repaired them, 4 rolls of electrical tape wrapped around the wiring again and aint had a problem since n that took me a day to do.

It’s almost always my first port of call to see what work’s been done recently and checkover anything that’s been fiddled with that might have been disconnected and not reconnected. I’ve also seen wires trapped beneath components that have then been tightened on top.

If you pay that amount, you are totally barking old son. They wouldn’t be getting a penny off me.
