Ok, i’ll edit that, it’s time to buy Scania.
One week, four days, 2k on parts, still not got me truck back, all this so far, just doing warning lights off, truck worked fine…i shall have labour costs on top of that to come…
lee mat:
I think the problem goes alot further than just the electrics in the truck and maybe also what a fleet truck and what an owner drivers truck should be 900 quid for a i shift gearstick where the hell do they get that figure from thats got to be a joke
I had a worn I shift gear stick in my 03 FH and I baulked at the price of a replacement, and a second hand one off eBay was £400 and still had to be reprogrammed by Volvo at yet more cost, so I took the old one out when the driver was on holiday and got it refurbed by a place in Sheffield. Took a week but the truck was off the road anyway. Gear stick is still going now.
Two weeks later, went and collected it today, took it back an hour later, two warning lights came back on, i kid you not…
Sounds like your dealer is taking the urine Richmond. If he’s fitted more than one part, why? Fit something, it don’t work but leave it on because we’ve taken it out of the packet. It may be better for you to buy a code reader yourself and spend a bit of time learning a bit about the normal issues.
I had a main dealer tell me that a certain part was faulty. It didn’t seem to register to him that if that part was faulty, the motor wouldn’t be running at all, but because his scanner pointed to that item, that’s all he wanted to do.
In the end I found the bad earth myself…
Are you taking the M.A.N back to the dealer for warranty protection reasons ? Would it not be better to take it to an auto electritian ?
I am not trying to be a smart arse, just curious-are there not any good ones nearby? We recommisioned an early 4 series Scania that had been off the road for 2/3 years-abs ecu gave up the ghost. (Scania blamed it on a jump start!!).Scania wanted 1200 to replace it but a local spark located and sorted the problem for less than half.
To be fair, we have had lights on since we had the piece of crap, i just ignored them all, my fitter informed me that any warning lights on now are an mot failure, so i sent it in to have all of them sorted, however, i am not surprised at all that they havent fixed them, as in my experiance they tend to just delete the code and next day it comes back on, i have a 10 plate man, exactly the same, heartbreaking it is, only done 200000k , very disapointed with them.My thinking is trucks are so specialised now that taking it back to the dealer should speed up the fault diagnosos as many trucks will have had the same problem, the top electrical man has been on holiday for two weeks, he is back tomorrow and i hope that he will get onto the job and sort it out, or should i just send the tax back in case? lol
status update, two more brake ecu today Ciica 1k, and a switch 50 quid, this no gives us a total of 3k in parts and god knows how much in labour, never again, a man will bankrupt you, they sell em cheap and get the money back after,

Sounds reasonable, a friend has just received a bill for 2k for a fuel pressure sensor on his car
The man is still in the dealers , today i ordered a daf space cab, manuel ,gearbox, 08 plate had enough of this crap.

3 WEEKS!! now thats extracting the urine even with the top electrical guy on hols.
its time you kicked the main dealers ■■■■ on this as you already said 3k on parts and an unknown labour bill that are still growing!
Richmond.
I don’t know what sort of a bill you are expecting but I reckon they should be paying you. If they can’t even find out what’s wrong in three weeks, but have fitted 3K’s worth of bits that didn’t need replacing and expected any money off me, they would be peeing in the wind!
Richmond’s experience will be the norm as the latest plastic automated euro crap age.
Lot to be said for simple stuff like (manual only) Axors Daf CF’s Hino’s and the like, likely find a competent indy workshops can keep them going without throwing new parts at it till they happen upon the failed item by accident, which seems to be happening here.
I wonder if these latest electronic nightmare motors will in demand in Africa/Middle East when 5 years+, where they going to find the right diagnostics bod 300 miles North of Lagos when the bloody rubbish goes on the blink again.

and even the idea of electronic fuelling is arguably, possibly, likely to cost as much in maintenance in the long term and depreciation when it comes to finding someone to buy it when it’s got some years and miles on it,as it saved in fuel.
Still not back with me yet, you can sell a version one fh for more money for export that you can fot a version two, dafs hold silly monnney for export, its all down to the trucks lack of electronics. so im told.
My Magnum is 7 years old and in all that time I can only remember 2 maybe 3 days when faults didn’t come up on the dash, needless to say I have learnt to ignore them.As for your ’ unfindable faults’ did have similiar probs with an Actros and the dealers were useless but investigation eventually revealed that the wiring harness where it was secured ‘tightly’ to brackets had rubbed through underneath.Once that had been found, probs reduced.
I think a lot of these problems normaly are down to cheap crap substandard wiring
Mates got a optic rubies scany Scania decided it was gearbox so put new one in 6 grand I beleave truck still played up eventualy a chaffed wire was found corroded fault solved
