the best way to make up the volvo cab is to assemble the cab then paint it
its beat to spray it ,then put the glass in from the inside and then slide the
interior up into the cab .
and you should paint the inside was well as the dash come in sliver so black
dash looks better
Giblsa you’ll get a few tips from www.ratbags.f9.co.uk or the truck modellers “bible” Truck Model World ,the only magazine devoted to trucks or go onto Yahoo and put in Plastic truck models and you’ll get loads of sites (e.g dutch model truck clubs )also, KFS
(Kit Form Services).
That’ll keeping you in tips and reading for months.
Hope that helps a bit.regards derek
The Poly Cement is this got “Liquid Poly” on the bottle? If it has there is a technique to using this and if you don’t know how to use it you will think it is no good.

all it says on the bottles is “precision poly cement” this one has a long needle (looks like) on it and the other just says " poly cement" and is in a tube with quite a wife opening so I’m guessing that isn’t liquid.
i have just had a look and the precision is liquid but has a tiny needle opening so shouldn’t be too hard to use i guess! or am i wrong?
whats the tip on how to use it anyway? might come in handy later on in my “modelling career”
The one with a needle is the best one to use, if the other is like a toothpaste then I would bin it, thats my oipinion.
Liquid poly is in a bottle with a brush attached to the lid. To use this you hold the 2 parts together and place the brush on the join and the glue then runs down in a capillary action and joins the parts together. If you didn’t know this you would probably use the brush to paint it on (thats the best way to describe it). This evaporates so quickly that this can’t be done this way. I hope that makes sense?
Hi bugcos, well not all mine ended up as good as that, but i have been making models for 26 years so one would hope you can better youself. Thanks for the comments on my models.Paul
P.S no more drum kits! stop hijacking this thread
i have finally started to build mine and after 3 hours i have put the wheels together and painted them, the engine is built (the basics of it anyway) and the chassis is painted. that is as far as i have got so far as i have man flu and didnt want to do anything that would try my patience.
i will try to get some photos once it is starting to take shape as a wagon (at the minute it looks like the back end of a breakers yard) and you can all laugh at my first attempt!

Yes the tekno shop/museum is well worth the trip, been 2/3 times now to pick up new release models. The truck stop at lokeren used to stock tekno models ,not sure if they still do as dont get togo by there anymore.
nice to see the 1/50 stuff lads, i was in lockern truckstop begining of this year and they still had the big glass cabinet on the right by the door with all the models for sale. any of you still driving in europe might be intrested to know that there is a big model truck show on every year at jabekke in belgium, keep on asking the boss if i can weekend over there on the weekend its on but no luck so far. also theres a regular contributer on this forum who organizes a show at gaydon each year. he does a hell of a job in setting it up and i hope to get down there next year, to actually see the work of fellow modellers instead of reading about it in truck model world…
I don’t know if it’s still there, but, there used to be a really good shop just off the Rotterdam ring that I used to visit in the early 90’s.
The Bemo Model Shop in Baexem,Holland is well worth a visit for all you 1/50 scale guys too, they have everything in there and will,at a price, make a one off model of your own truck.A Dutch guy I know had one made of his DAF 95 Space Cab with trailer and it cost him around 300 guilders, which at the time was about £150.It seems a lot,but when you consider that Tekno models at that time used to sell for £75-£125,it ain’t bad.
Ok lads can some one please explain, I think I know but just to be sure,
Code 3 is one made up of different models?
so whats a code 2? asuming code 1 is a bought complete model, is a code 2 a white metal kit?
I got this off eBay last week, WSI model, brillant detail, puts Corgis attempt to shame. Removable ballast box, pivoting fifth wheel, tilting cab… Ordered 9 lines of modular axles from Germany for it.
I have finally started building my Volvo FH16 and I have been doing it for about 20 hours in total so far and I am quite chuffed with my first attempt at doing anything as technical as this.
As I have already explained to the wife, this is just a practice run before I have a go at making my proper model of the truck artic I had my first week of tramping in. That is why it is a little bit rough around the edges in places.
It has been quite hard at times and I have run out of patience a few times but it hasn’t been launched across the kitchen yet so I take that as a good sign.
Here are some pics for you so you can see my pigs ear!!!
Any hints and tips would be appreciated (and are definitely needed)
